  1. my last guitar was 35mm and i really liked it that way.
  2. im not feeling it..... maybe when i see it in progress it'll grow on me, but the body just seems so inconsistant with its skiny horns and fatty body. of course i'll reserve all judgement until see this beast finished!
  3. oh mommy.... that is one bad ass, evil weevil, nasty nasty, satan slaying, death delivering, mean bean, woolie bully (and lots of other silly things) looking axe!! i was thinking of doing a similar extension of the neck onto the body like youve done, but i fear now everybody would just think i was copying it the paint job is incredible, your a lucky sausage matt
  4. them curves look realy tight when they get to the spikes, i like this design. lets hope it gets to fruitition, most V's on here never seem to get anywhere. something tells me january is the month of the V!!!
  5. pheww! when i first read this poll it seemed rather threatning. but reading the responses its good to know the newb and amatuer builders are of some worth on this forum. im about to start a new project that will obviously seem amatuer to most on here, its good to know it will at least be looked at. sometimes the forum can seem rather unkind. the way i see it, the designs and ideas are completetly random, pro or not, everybody has something to contribute.
  6. i dont know about this. but what about a hybrid of all your fav things on guitars. i like fenders for comfort, but i hate the style so i never touch them, also i prefer the raunchier sound from a humbucker. but spikey geetars never make good lap sitters. its been done before, but what about slapping a humbucker (or two) into a fender style guitar. comfort with sound.
  7. i'll take one in the red, and one in the matt black. i do love the red finish, but there was something special about it in just matt black.
  8. that SG is incredible. it looks like chocolate! come to daddy!
  9. i dont like the headstock, it looks squashed. i think it would better with a headstock closer to the ESP. i guessing you want your own design on it though, not something replicated, put more more meat on it and see how it looks.
  10. cheers anyways guys. i couldnt find anything in hiscocks book other than reference to the project designs . i have one button over the 15th fret (as far along as i could go) and another 2" north west of the bridge. its a completely balanced guitar..... it just wont sit still when im playing!
  11. the B.C. Rich Warlock guitar. or most importantly, the budget copies of this thing. in edinburgh i was in a guitar shop and got a new strap. when buying i asked the guy behind the counter if i could have play on the B.C. Rich. two things here, i always ask to play the guitars and i always say "is it really ok, because im not going to buy it and i dont want to seem like a tire kicker" to which you usually get a freindly response and its much less embarrasing when you walk out without buying anything. secondly, i played a Rich Bich once and i was in love! yet every B.C. Rich guitar or copy has never stood up to it and its put me right off the intire brand. i digress. the Edinburgh guitar sounded auwful and after two minutes inspection the neck was warped! in Aberdeen i played yet another warlock, again! a twist in the neck! Elgin, i couldnt get it to tune and neither could the shop owner. id say that was a pretty clear warning, i'll stick to my SG's
  12. when i built my last guitar i took ages to mount the strap because i didnt want to mess it up. i did all sorts of funny string related exercises to see how my guitar would sit with a strap on. so good was mock up that the final result was great. my guitar sat perfectly balanced on my belly its an almost unique design so it wasnt like i could just copy where everyone else put there strap buttons. Hiscock offers zero advice on strap locations. the problem is now, when i play, the guitar has a tendancy to veer to the right... this only happens when im sliding my hand up the neck. my question is, does there lie a general rule about strap placings? and can my veering problem be fixed by some means?
  13. im not that knowledgable about these things so im just brainstorming here because im intrested. could the saddle bridge be in the right place? i know thats a silly thing to ask... but if it was mounted too far forward your scale length would be all to hell and you wouldnt get it intonated. an easy thing to check anyway.
  14. i could use a few lessons in that school! its weird, but i could swear i know two of those guys! theyre not called jim and matt by any chance?
  15. its about time i poked my nose in here. see on the top guitar, does a bridge like that really exist? its incredible! there very little between those designs, they all look pretty good. you could go with any of them and still come out with a great looking guitar. whats speaking to you?
  16. black... pointy.... evil.... that sounds like the perfect axe! would look deadly in black gloss and black fittings.
  17. theres some really intresting curves in there. i agree with matt, the bottom wing needs attention. but overall, its pretty badass. also, does the bass player use a pick or his fingers? when i play with my fingers i have a tendancy to rest my forearm on the guitar. the highest point on your design looks a bit close to that "resting place". i dunno though, something to consider. i can almost see it complete in a lovely gloss black
  18. Guitar Player Repair Guide: How to Set-Up, Maintain, and Repair Electrics and Acoustics by Dan Erlewine. i found this cracker helps fill in some of the gaps Hiscock has in his book. handy for when your guitar projects finished too.
  19. 3. black and red. nothing says "vampire bat" like black an red.
  20. i wouldnt have recommended a strat as a first build. three single coil pickups, two pots and a switch? electrical nightmare! keep it simple, get a humbucker. starting from scratch, i went with most easiest way of doing the electrics and that was to wire a humbucker straight to the jack. even with that mr hiscock's book i still needed help. so even the simplest methods can require alot of research. to quote melvyn "you can wire a pickup straight to the jack, but chances are, you wont want to do that, so i havent covered that in this book" thanks melvyn, £15 well spent.
  21. hey matt, you wouldnt be too distraught if i totally ripped off your neck design? im actually very anoyed at how good that neck is and that i cant have one. so... im going to pinch your idea and simplify it ALOT.
  22. that is exactly the kind of neck my next guitar could use! (you know matt). aaarrrrhhhh!!!! i hate you, that neck is so bloody good!!! i take it your routering the headstock, that is going to be amazing!
  23. people say flying V's are for aged rock stars and posers. i reckon alot of people would retract that statement upon seeing what can only be described as the devils meat grinder .... matt, did you draw out that design with the cut outs going the other way? the curves on the outside edges, the spikes sort of point toward the neck, what would it look like if they were turned around with the spikes in same direction as the V.... if you catch my drift? im not saying it would look better, i was just wondering if the design of it would... flow more? would you make and sell one of these? im in love.
