  1. I played an epiphone acoustic in wine red a few months ago and it sounded pretty damn good, and the price was even better - 150 bucks. Were they new Larrivee's? I hear the new Larrivee's are garbage. There was an awesome Martin I played a few months ago where the neck and perhaps back/sides of the body was a non-wood non-graphite material. It sounded really strong. The problem with acoustics I find is I have to use my ear more lol. I haven't tried cheaper Godins, but I have tried a La Patrie classical guitar and it was so far the best classical I've ever tried. One problem I find with classicals is they tend to sound like a guitar with the tone set to zero. This wasn't the case but you could still tell it was a classical. Definitly a good guitar. Forget the price though. Under 600 I'm sure. -Jamie
  2. There's even some people out there who won't waste time building amps, but would rather just mod it like you, and I hear one of the best buys for modding is a Pignose tube amp, since they go for like 250-300 bucks
  3. Marksound is right. A 200 watt head will sound double as loud as a 20 watt head. It's not like if one's 20 and the other is 40, then therefore it's double. 15 watt amps can be pretty loud. There is a website out there where a guy sells a 1 watt amp because he claims a 1 watt amp is more then enough. I own a fender deville 4x10 and that's way too loud. The reason why I got it is because it was going cheaper on ebay then the Deluxe was new in stores, used in classifieds and at the time for some odd reason there was none on ebay (weird lol). You may just want to fork the money out to get a peavey classic or fender blues junior, or learn how to build your own. AX84 is a site which offers blueprints and material lists to build a small tube amp that will be loud enough. -Jamie
  4. http://cgi.ebay.ca/TOILET-SEAT-GUITAR_W0QQ...1QQcmdZViewItem lol
  5. I've been seeing these Gibson Spirit guitars here and there on ebay. Is this even sponsored by Gibson or what? They look pretty crappy to me. http://cgi.ebay.ca/GIBSON-SPIRIT-LP-GUITAR...1QQcmdZViewItem
  6. I vote to be Stephen Harper, the new Prime Minister of Canada, and according to many, "Bush's poster boy". ROFL. -Jamie
  7. like this http://www.warmoth.com/guitar/bodies/tele....n=tele_thinline It is an interesting instrument. I wish yamaha would bring back the AEX500NS. I haven't tried it but the idea is amazing in my opinion - a solid body nylon. No chambers or anything going on there. -Jamie
  8. Are you kidding? YOU'RE ON DRUGS! That's a bargain! Take it while its cheap before it goes up. -Jamie
  9. I don't like new sepultura too much but Sepulnation was an awesome song. I find some of Soulflys songs too rushed though and lots of repeats of lyrics. Prophecy is an amazing song though. I don't get why the guitar player in the video is playing with a backpack on lol. Old sepultura with Max is much better than Soulfly, however I am sort of tied between new Sepultura and Soulfly. -Jamie
  10. It's fine if they play it, but they should tuck their shirt in before their belt buckle comes into any contact with the guitar, or anything stupid like that! Seriously, I see so many guitars go on ebay and they all state, "I've had this for a few months, and it has the average scratches here and there, and belt rash." Geez. I've had my guitar for 2 years and there aren't any dents or belt rash. The only scratches are so thin and minute that you really have to look in the light on the satin black. -Jamie
  11. I'm so confused when reading this thread. The only thing I can think of is she has a guitar with a zero fret. Are you trying to convert a 25.5 scale to a 24? If so, I'd like to know why? It wouldn't be worth it and you'd have to replace the whole fretboard unless you want a lot of wood filler. If you want a 24 inch scale you're going to have to shift the bridge up 1.5 inches towards the nut. Then you're going to have to replace the entire fretboard. In the end it's so much work that it's probably better to buy the warmoth neck or the guitar you're aiming for, unless this guitar you are doing it on is just a guitar for projects. -Jamie
  12. Not to mention that the epiphone gothic has a rosewood fretboard and a XII on the 12th fret, whereas the Gibson has a real ebony board and a moon and star on the 12th fret. And a picture of Gibson himself on the back of the headstock. Theres ways of knowing its a fake. I really don't see why having the name is so important, seriously. I could care less if my guitars were a gibson, epiphone, fender or squire unless it was actually worth money. If I try a Gibson that costs 1200 bucks and it sounds like garbage, I'm not going to buy it. If I try an epiphone that costs 500 bucks and it sounds amazing, then I will buy it. I don't buy guitars based on brand. -Jamie
  13. I understand. So you want to know what a capacitor does in the amp and what a resistor does in the amp, and stuff along the lines of that, correct? If so, maybe you should check out his book "Vacuum Tube Guitar and Bass Amplifier Repair" by Tino Zottola. Here's the contents. 1. Foreword 2. History of Vacuum Tubes 3. Vacuum Tube Operation: Edison effect, triodes, tube characteristics, biasing, modes of operation, rectifiers, triode amps, phase inverters, Class A amps, Class AB & B amps and oscillators 4. Amplifier Topology 5. Amplifier Tonal Characteristics 6. Amplifier Chassis Layout 7. Bibliography 8. APPENDIX A: Resistor Code 9. APPENDIX B: Capacitor Code 10. APPENDIX C: Wire Gauge Table 11. APPENDIX D: Musical versus Frequency Table 12. APPENDIX E: Vacuum Tube Data 13. British versus American terminology

  15. My grandfather gave me some of his old popular mechanics mags to look at from the mid to late 50s and there are pictures of handheld routers. -Jamie
  16. Yes I am interested because if his books are garbage I don't want to waste 100 bucks for all of them lol. This is supposed to be a good book on building amps. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/075065694...=books&v=glance
  17. Exactly. I have a Fender 4x10 Deville and it's plenty loud. The reason why I got it is because it was cheaper used than getting a brand new deluxe. The thing must have an endorsment with Mr.Clean because it's the cleanest amp I have tried and I think the Peavy Classics have nothing on this. I tried a Line 6 HD147 and the mod of the Bogner. You see, it covers one speciffic sound of the Bogner but in the end you're better off dishing out another 2000 and getting the Bogner because 1. it's better sounding 2. it can do way more than what Line 6 can do. The line 6 aren't bad for people starting out or wanting a cheap gig amp, but I wouldn't spend thousands of dollars on their products. -Jamie
  18. Exactly. I have trouble playing on Fender's scale, and find Gibson's scale to be hard for some bends. I have to try a PRS again, maybe that's the one that'll do lol. -Jamie
  19. Yes. Build your own. Seriously. I have tried a sustainer system on a jackson and it sucked. I haven't tried the homemade one yet, but you can listen to sustainer sounds and all here, and inquire about building your own. PSW should help you out as well. http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...ic=7512&st=1110 There's the thread to building your own. Since it's an actual Fender, you shouldn't have to go about rewiring your guitar. The thing is you're going to need to explore ideas on your own. It's like asking what's the best pedal out there for distortion. You're going to get so many different opinions that it could become an argument. You may want a varitoneswitch (ask BigD if you want one), or an onboard tremolo, or reverb (Kay guitars had that back then). I think in the end you may just want to stick with what you have now, change the pickups, and sand down the neck. -Jamie
  20. Anyone check out this site before? What do you think of the stuff he says? He repeats himself a lot and I'm just wondering if anything he says holds water or if he's one of those Roman guys lol. -Jamie
  21. Ideas would help Seriously. You'll sometimes want one guitar one minute, and another the next. Try searching the in progress and finished work for ideas. Some people's idea for the ultimate jam guitar are the famous B.C Rich guitars with 15 different gizmos on it, and some people just need the right pickups, woods, style of neck and colour. The ultimate guitar for me would be this... I'm not telling. lol You may want an Ibanez Wizard II style neck (since it's thinner than fenders). One guy I heard instead of using a skunk stripe in his guitar, used a small piece of metal, and when he went to play live he'd either put a lubricant on his thumb or on the the metal, and he says his speed has improved . Other than that why not just a non-glossy clear coat on the neck? A 24 fret neck might be better since according to some, the 21 and 22 is under a natural harmonic causing you to get that high tone. You could always turn down your tone knob, or throw an EQ pedal in maybe. Is your strat a knock off, a squire or fender? I read that a lot of knock offs have terrible wiring, butcherd jobs and that if you redo the wiring it'll definitly make a difference. -Jamie
  22. A little advice: The warrenty will be void for Canadians, and I am then assuming all non-Americans. I called up a service dealer here in Canada and they told me that. I think it's because the warrenty laws and policies are different from American.
  23. Makes sense. My teacher went to China in the summer and there's knockoffs of everything, ipods, imods, ifods lol. Here it costs around 7 dollars for a pack of cigarettes, and apparently in China, if you ask how much for a pack, they'll ask how much you're willing to pay lol. -Jamie
  24. Okay I was browsin ebay and I came across this. http://cgi.ebay.ca/INCREDIBLE-QUICKSILVER-...1QQcmdZViewItem Is Ed Roman making guitars in China for an affordable price now? Did this guy forget the reserve option, or is this a scam? lol. I'm not going to buy it, but I found it surprising and interesting. -Jamie
  25. Yes the fretboard radius should be the same as the bridge. Schaller Floyd Roses are 14 inch radius Floyd Rose bridges are 12, and I think there is one or two that's 10. (Check their site) If you're doing a compound radius fretboard, your nut should be the same as the first fret, and your bridge should be the same as the last. However, wait until some of the pros here can verify that. I haven't inquired in such a long time about it so some of this information may have slipped my brain.
