  1. Also buffing compound will leave a slight haze so you follow up with polish.
  2. It wipes right off because thats already been sealed with poly
  3. After a few hours of dying sanding back dying again sanding back again my $18 dollar top now looks like this. Still wet in the pic it will dry lighter. the pup holes and bridge recess will get a shot of black.
  4. Thanks I like it alot too, I cant however take credit for the idea. David King is the man! THA MAN!
  5. Looking awesome! Did you tap the frets in with the claw hammer? I have to admit this is gonna be a beauty. Im really digging the neck with the curly maple. Im a sucker for flamed woods in the neck, dont know why......Great job bud!
  6. I built the endcap tonight this one will accept single ball strings. I find David King inspiring so I think the bell shaping on the string retainer is fitting. I like the idea of it letting you know where the end of the neck is. The design is my own however, the way the strings are clamped is the difference from others. It's built from brass, I love working brass, being a metal worker for some time I've only lately got into working with brass. The funny thing about this metal is it cuts like butter, but if you try and rush a cut especially drilling, it can turn ugly very quickly. This thing should polish out very nice. Also now that it's built I can finish shaping the neck to meet the cap. I'll also point out that the string slots are not done yet so be nice! Another view Different angle
  7. I kinda changed my mind on the lower horn..... I also got the tuner parts of the bridges done. I put the bridge pup in at a angle to see what it would do to for tone. It should help even out the lows and highs.
  8. Im sure it will be ok and withstand the test of time.
  9. Drak, me being from the "Lone Star State" this warms my heart
  10. Yeah Im not feeling it either, That will be the color for the front, but I think Im gonna sand the control cover and leave it natural.
  11. Thanks The bridge is an un-branded one I brought from eBay, it might not be a Hipshot but it's well made for the price. I just realised I put 17.5mm spacing in the first post, it's actually 16.5mm, I'll go edit that... Ive actually used one of those bridges before in a 5 string, very good value.
  12. Well its been awhile since Ive posted here. Got a little done, built the tuners, fingerboard with fiberoptics on, a little shaping here and there. Going to route the other pup hole and hopefully finish the shaping 2morrow. Back Finger board (second grade according to LMI) Im not sure if Im digging the purple dye. This is one coat not sanded back, I did mix the dye rather strong. What do you guys think? Control Cavity Cover The tuners are just about finished these will have built in bridges with adjustment for intonation and string height. tuner bodys
  13. Cool, where did you get these? I am interested in this type of setup
  14. Hey bud the guitar looks great, build it like you want. We all get better with each one we build. Some of the guys here can't build to save their lives and would rather run off their mouths than put in the labor and time to learn, and then there are the ones that can build and are just arrogant A-holes. Im guessing they forgot what its like to make a mistake or they can hide the mistakes a little better. But not everyone here is like that, there is a lot of knowlege here. I can tell by your build that your intellegent enough to know where your mistakes are and dont need them pointed out. So chin up and good job man! -Scott
  15. Looks good! The thing with the truss rod is why I started making my own. Cant seem to find them long enough to get past the fretboards.
  16. I scrapped the idea of making maple pickup covers. I decided to use the Poplar and top it off with Cocobolo to match the fingerboard. These make the Jazz pups look a little more fancy and they will give a better area to rest the thumb.
