  1. Dude! a buzzer, some wire and a 9v! Mine plugs into my effects making rig (has a connector same as an effects pedal). We made em in school in year 7! great fun! S
  2. sounds like you've wired it wrong bud. Try looking for a generic 3 way pikcup schematic on the net. If it sounds thin and like a single coil. It probably is (ie you've inadvertantly wired it so the pickup is tapped) S
  3. There's numerous circuits on the internet you could use (like a microamp in ur guitar). Are you needing clean boost or what? In terms of increasing output, its not really possible without changing pickups or installing some kind of active circuit (ie with battery). But if you don't mind that then its pretty easy. look at general guitar gadgets under their boosters tab. some are pretty small and easy to fit in a axe cavity. S
  4. Well the SD ones are just transfer type things (you can get em off with nail varnish remover). Dimarzio ones (on the pickups i have anyway) are actually moulded into the bobbin. So i assume those are part of the mould. What are you thinking of doing? S
  5. To be honest, thats a problem with locking nuts I wouldnt go chopping around with trying to change the radius. Just get one that is the right radius. If you start filing away at the nut you'll probably a) wreck it and make sharp edges which make the strings go *ping!* S
  6. If you're not against the idea of ordering from abroad: Guitarfetish.com have some budget stuff (like the wilkinson tuners mentioned earlier) and very good service. Guitarpartsresource.com have the higher end stuff (sperzels will fit a 10mm hold perfectly, and inc delivery shouldn't cost much over £40) Ebay! I know people will shun me for saying that, but its a good source for parts. S
  7. Chestnut stuff is nice and easy to get. The Behlen dyes are very nice to use. The advantage of both these companies is they sell all the things you need to build up a finish, so you can be guarenteeeed compatability. S (personally i use the Behlen stuff, can get it from craft supplies with wood etc)
  8. Also hipshot do tuners that drop down (ie for drop D tuning). As do sperzel (imaginatively called the 'd-thing') S
  9. www.auto-paint.co.uk Bout a tenner for a wopping pot of the stuff. goes straight from 1500 grit paper to g3 to swirl remover. S
  10. I've done it before by screwing down the polepieces a bit and using a buffing compound and then some T-Cut S
  11. Well i do! i use farrecla G3 compound and finish it off with a swirl remover and then the old trsty jim dunlop polish stuff. S
  12. There's a new PRS Signature guitar with a maple 'board. Might be some sound clips around? I know its a bit of a different guitar but for seeing what difference it has 'generally' look at a strat. S
  13. so so so!! Where do we get some scottish beech from then? hee hee That is gonna look god damn awesome man! S
  14. Yeah! Aber rocks! A few of my friends are up there now on placement (we're medical students). All good fun! S
  15. It'd be different. Zakk Wylde has some LP's with maple boards. (the camo ones). Try it, you might like it! S
  16. second the 'get the limba out' I like my pickup selectors right under the pickups... easy to flick it with your pinky when you're still playing. I tend to recess mine (PRS stylee) and use small fat actuator switches. works well... big enough to me easy to get to.... not so big you hit it accidentally. S
  17. Steve vai - the audience is listening John petrucci (dream theater) - Home Brian May - All of it!! Mark Tremonti (creed years) - Stand here with me, Inside us all (not really lead but i like it) Dave Navarro (jane's addiction) - All of the older albums and 'the riches' ofs strays S
  18. for a first guitar i'd put all those nice expensive components and bits in a drawer and use some cheap stuff just til you get the hang of it! nothing more infuriating than mucking up a loverly piece of wood (as i have learnt!). S
  19. Tc electronic G-major (and a midi controller) Best effects you'll get (unless you wanna get a g-force or some top end lexicon/evantide stuff) S
  20. WELSH PEOPLE ON HERE!!!! WOOOOOOOO! Sorry... National pride and all. ahem.
  21. Just work your way down the circuit with a multimeter. Put all your pots to 10 and see what the resistance is between the 'hot' wire and ground before the volume pot, after the volume pot and before and after the switch. This should highlight any faults. To be honest it sounds like a dry solder joint. Ya might want to redo all the solder joints and see if that helps. Pickup faults are few and far between. S
  22. If you get Koch's book on making electric guitars, it has a very good section on explaining all this kinda stuff. goes into alot of detail about all sorts. Take a look. S
  23. do you want an adopted son? hee hee wouldn't mind that myself! s
  24. Sorry, their website has changed... http://www.bestguitarparts.com/guitar-part...itar_Bridge.htm have a look there. oh and as for the saddles, never used em all my hipshot bridges and trems have graphtech ghost saddles. but as yet, only one has the preamp.... joys of being a student. S
  25. Its the thickness of the baseplate. They have a diagram that tells you the specs on the hipshot website. Good bridge btw. S
