  1. 11 years. mostly classical. i've been into rock/shred for about 8.
  2. you must hold on very tight grasshopper...and try not to melt em.
  3. bummer, if you ever have onee just sittin' around and lookin' for a home in a floral jem, give me an email.
  4. i am really sour on changing tubes. my old dual recto had like 100 tubes in it. i had to change them last year...300 bucks for tubes!!! my 5150 which replaced the recto, only has 5 12ax7s and 2 6L6s... paradise
  5. wow, kudos man. you rock, i would love that option. i have a wolfgang, and love the d-tuna, but wish i could go up also. i also have a couple of jems, and don't play them as much because i've grown accustomed to resting my hand on the bridge. when you get a price, post it here, you'll have a customer. i think if you made it $40.00(us) and found a way to market it like the d-tuna, you will be a rich man. man that rules!!!!!!
  6. hey derek, i mic in two places at once. i mic right at the speaker, and i put another a few feet away, (i guess a meter or so for you metric users ) that way i get the sound of the speaker, plus the ambience of the room, and the articulation of the amp. you have to F with it allitle, but i get a good, (IMO) sound this way. give it a try. also try the sm-58, i know it's a vocal mic, but you may like the sound better.
  7. hey snork here's the deal. the 7wh is cool, but there are more of them around than telemarketers. i have a 77fp, and i have always wanted a 77bfp to match it. i really like the maple with the blue vine, it's my fave. i wish Ibeenhad would have made the 7vsb with a maple board over a rosewood one, then i would be gettin one of those too. p.s. on a jem the finish is a moot point, they have sooooo much poly that fabric, or paper doesn't matter. it's not like the graphic is going to pull up or something.
  8. i love BSBs i want one somethin fierce, but i have two jems already. i really can't justify the need for another one. i may sell the 7vwh to get a blue floral though.
  9. i played a neck once that was half scalloped. i mean it was scalloped on the top 3 strings and not on the bass strings. it was nice for chords and for solos, but i thought it looked weird. i prefer tall frets, dunlop 6105's. i am in the process of scalloping a MIM strat neck though, just to see if i can do it. so far just the 18-22 are done, the wider it gets, the harder it is becoming to do. i know i know... patience grasshopper patience.
  10. PAULO GILBERTO!!!! he would rock. i have a bootleg vid of him and vai and luke all playing at a benifit. you wanna talk about shreddin. boy they were cuttin heads!!!
  11. the black on the back of the duncan's and the dimarzio's is just shielding paint. read the dimarzio website. they thought it would help with noise issues, apparently the legend out lived the actual idea. p.s. Ed Roman is a salesman first, then a guitar builder/ player. ED ROMAN WILL DO AND SAY ANYTHING TO SELL GUITARS AND PARTS. he preys on peoples gullibilty. as for the H-H setup. I think for the styles you mentioned. i'd get a Dimarzio "Tone Zone" in the bridge position and an "Air Norton" in the neck. then wire them for coil splitting, and series/ parallel. you will get a miriad of tone from that set up... IMO. good luck
  12. they have such an on-line rivalry, i had to make a poll. ding ding... let's get it on!!!
  13. i like tommy. i just want original war paint. i really don't like ace, and the make up makes me think it's him and i start to get mad.
  14. hey Rye, a mill is not a machine, it's a tool. you are still making the cuts. a CNC is controled by a computer, and only knows 0101 0011 00001. you on the other hand can see in 3 deminsions, and you have love for your work.
  15. well canuck, i can see where you agree with a machine precision wise, but dude, machines have no soul, or creativity. Wayne Charvel never used machines, and his guitars are top notch. i would rather have a Wayne, over a CNC'd PRS. just my .02
  16. i forgot to mention. Gibson is THE most overrated guitar maker on the planet. i was at GC the other day and i looked at a 3000 dollar LP, and it sucked, the action was higher than jimi ever was, and the finish was dull in spots. MAKE YOUR OWN GUYS. the factory garbage pales in comparison to a hand made insturment.
  17. yep, PRS is over rated. i have only found a couple i have ever liked. they are more of a furniture guitar, than a great sounding insturment. Santana has a great sound, but he has custom built one offs. i once played a private stock, and it was pretty, and shiny, but it didn't sound good. collectors have ruined the PRS, more people want them because they are the flavor of the week, rather than to play them. now if you want a super high quality, great sounding guitar in the same price range, i recomend Tom Anderson Guitar Works. my tom classic sounds incredible.
  18. v-amp pro. it's cool. and a gift cert to best buy. and the indiana jones trilogy.
  19. in theory what you say makes sence. how ever, it may have a higher tension, but with the lighter bass string, it compansates with a floating trem. you may be correct on a stop tail, i wish i had one to make a comparison. i don't think it would hinder playing too much though. i might be used to it. i don't want you to think i'm slamming you, i'm not. i'm just not too eloquint in my writing. my bad.
  20. i know yin and yang are opposite, that's what i meant. satch is more smooth and vai is more spiny. whatever that means!!!!
