  1. I went to a paint and hobby store today and I actually found plastic films with a really realistic marble texture. I should probably be able to use these for a material finish, just like Brian Calvert did in this tutorial: http://projectguitar.com/tut/mat.htm These films, or contactplastic as they called them, already has glue on one side so they seem to be relativly easy to attach. I just need to try it on a test piece first. They are semi transparent so I should paint the guitar in marble white first, and they will probably stick better to paint than to bare wood. Need to find a good lacquer that works with the plastic too... Anyway, I feel a little more confident now! What do you guys think? Good idea?
  2. Hi everyone! I'm going to build my first guitar and I have a question about the finish. I want to paint the guitar so that it looks like marble...but I have no idea what kind of paint I should use. Is it ok to use regular oilcolors? I'll probably need to use a lot of thinner in the colors... Oh, and I probably don't want the guitar to be all shiny either...what should I use to get a nice satin finish above the faux marble? Is it possible to oil the guitar after I've painted it with oilcolors? I feel really clueless right now... I need to find some kind of combination that works... Any ideas?
  3. Ok thanks! I'll probably try to make it with just the switch at first and see how it goes...heck the original guitar had only a switch so it should work. But I guess it depends on the balance between the 2 pickups. Anyway, thanks alot! I'll see if I can buy some nice alder tomorrow!
  4. Ok, so it is possible to just wire the pickups using a 3-way switch. Sweet, that will save me some money on my first build! haha But if I just wire the pickups to the switch how will it effect the sound? I don't really use the tone knobs or the volume knobs on my other guitars...they are usually on max all the time. Do you guys recommend against it or is it ok? I would still appreciate a nice picture for how to wire though... I'll just continue with the information search now!
  5. Hey everyone! I'm planning on building my my first guitar and I know exactly how I want the shape...but I have a problem with how I should wire it. You see this is the kind of guitar I want to copy: Gackt's signature guitar, the Caparison Marcury! But when I checked out the specs on their site, http://www.kyowashokai.co.jp/caparison%20j...%20marcury.html, I noticed this: Controls: 3 Way Mini Switch First of all, I know nothing about how you can wire guitars but how the heck is the guitar wired anyway? It doesn't have any tone/volume knobs, pushpull pot or anything...it just has the 3 way switch. So does anyone know how I should wire it if I want to make a similar guitar? Can you just wire pickups directly to the switch and then to the output jack or something? I would really appreciate if someone could find or draw me a wiring diagram...
  6. This guitar kind of reminded me of Közi from Malice Mizer's guitar(Japanese band). http://www.espguitars.co.jp/artist/kozi/aw.jpg It looks very "ESPish".
  7. Beautiful, truly beautiful! I really like colortone on the entire guitar. Nice round shape and everything. I woudn't mid having that in my collection.
  8. Hi everyone! I still havn't made by first guitar yet, being a poor uni-student... So my question is: What is the cheapest guitar possible to build? How much would it cost and what parts would be on it? Any suggestions? The bodydesign can always be made to fit my desire but it's all the electronic parts that is the real problem... I don't have the kind of money to build a highquality one but I still want to build something... It's a first build after all. How should I reduce the building cost? I just want it simple with one or maybe two pickups. Maybe I should just build a body to begin with? So can you guys help me with a checklist of parts(model) and the possible price of these?
  9. Looks nice...but just like AlexVDL said, the fretboard doesn't look wide enough. Both E seems to be right on the edge. Is it really playable?
  10. Sweet! Nice wood you've found! I'm sure this will be a great guitar, it look nice so far.
  11. *First reply about the Ebola guitar* From what I can see from the pics, the guitar looks pretty promising but it would be nice with more highrez pictures. The neck-pickup looks strange on this pic though. Other than that, I love the wood!
  12. Yeah, I would love to have Gackts signature guitar! Can't someone here make me a Caparison Venus copy?
  13. A lot of japanese guitarists have really cool guitars, and ESP are supplying most of them. I really like the design on this model though. Good luck with it! If it goes well maybe you can make Manas Jeune Fille next time. Now that's a tricky guitar to make! But Die, from Dir en grey, has a really cool signature model too! Check this out! http://www.espguitars.co.jp/gallery/die/h1/index.html I'd love to have that one... Inoran has a really cool mixed media guitar as well: http://www.espguitars.co.jp/artist/inoran/index.html Japanese rock rules!
  14. Wow! Look at his picture! http://rosebudveneers.com/mys3.JPG It almost looks like tons of small faces trying to break out of the wood. Now that's scary... Does anyone else see it or is it just my sick mind playing tricks on me? haha!
  15. Naahh, just kidding. Most people had strong reactions when you destroyed your 30-day 5a Quilt Tele. People started to become paranoid thinking that you'd destroy anything. Haha! Even though you just destroyed one guitar people reacted to it as if it was a killing spree. But enough of that. I'm really looking forward to seeing more of your guitar projects!
  16. Me insane...maybe just a little... ...BUT it's usually you who do the insane stuff! Hadn't heard anything about this guitar in a while and you being on your killing spree made me uncertain. Maybe you had messed something up and toasted this baby. Anyway, It's great to hear that it's just sitting there waiting for you to finish it. Good luck and keep up the good work! Now back to the rawhide!
  17. Any progress on this guitar or did you feed it to the WOD?
  18. What!!! You gotta be kidding!? What a shame to throw away such a beautiful piece of wood...I wish I had it... Give it to me! haha! But seriously, too bad...it could have been a great guitar.
  19. If there is one guitar in this forum that I want to see finished, it's this one! Heck, if it's one guitar in this forum that I want to OWN, it's this one! It looks so sweet!
  20. Wow, nice! So I guess this is your "Bass Bass"? *BAD joke*
  21. Nice! The illustration kind of reminds me of the characters in the good old game Spy vs Spy!
