  1. set the hight then move the piece under it
  2. Wow this thread has given me a few ideas! What I think I'll do is this: buy a cheap purse, (the kind that look like crocodile skin) attach it to a metal or plastic sheet with glue, and then to hide the ugly edge i would recess it like you would with a control cavity cover on the back of a guitar. I think that would look pretty sharp dont you?
  3. If thats the neck i think it is someone broke one of those washburn dimes, the sick looking green ones. Some people just aren't careful at all!!
  4. LOL thats something Homer J. Simpson would say!
  5. I've been following this thread all the way through, this guitar is awsome! Keep up the good work and post pics when you get those strings on.
  6. Your in UK? Whats the name of that magazine that's big over there "Total Guitar"? If i were you i'd look in the back of that magazine, there's always loads of "Guitarist wanted" ads for people like you!
  7. I'd say neck thru is the way to go, but i could see a problem joining the sides. Usually with neckthroughs alot of companys don't do biscuits or anything, the wood is thick enough so you can get a good joint, but for this thin of a body i think some form of biscuits would be the way to go.
  8. ahaha, that brings back memories
  9. Southpa, sorry if I missed it somewhere in the thread but how much experience do you have with burst finishes? By the looks of this one it isn't your first.
  10. So Drak what are you going to make out of this one? I really like your purple heart monster btw.
  11. Wow thats got to be one of the best looking teles I've ever seen! Keep up the good work. Ps: Dont mean to nag but you might want to change all the pics to links except for the first pic in each post, the mods won't be happy when they see this. Just trying to save you from some trouble no offense meant. Otherwise thats a really nice guitar!
  12. There usually is no finish at the time of inlaying, you have to sand right? Otherwise you'd sand off the finish.
  13. I've only seen a few crackle finishes i liked but the reason i voted "good" was because I DEFINITELY want to see a red bleeding through black finish! Matt that would kill! There are several types of crackle finish, some with small crackels and some with large and I think "large crackles" would look awsome on that guitar. Go for it Matt I can't wait to see it!
  14. You're in luck, there's a super simple method to this! You can find the material here. Now, for technique, first drill your hole, (not too deep, not too shallow, you can make a reasonable guess as this is pretty easy. http://www.projectguitar.com/uploads/emoticons/default_biggrin.png' alt=':D'>) Now use a bit of cyanacrylite (superglue) into the hole of question. The next step is to poke that plastic rod into the hole, cut off the excess, sand etc. Thats it! Edit: You could use epoxy as well, epoxy with black pigment works well for ebony fretboards, but as long as you drill the hole the right size it doesnt matter what glue you use.
  15. If you follow the techniques in the book you should do fine, thats the good part of the book. However the book does not cover scarf joints, semi-hollow bodies, guitars with tremelos, inlay and things like this. Also there are some typos throughout the book. It's not ALL terrible but there are better books out there, try and find one thats a more complete resource.
  16. Where did you get that? ← Do a google search for self adhesive rule, I'm in the UK so I got mine Here ← Thanks! I don't know how I never thought of those before, I could definitely use those on many jigs i have. No buddy, looks like you're set to go, these jigs shown in this thread are mainly used for set neck guitars, where the actual neck is used to set up the jig, sort of like an adjustable template. Your pin router used with a template is all you need for that job, assuming all your doing is a standard bolt on and you have the right template.
  17. Do you own that book sepultura? I'm curious about what you think of it, I own it and have mixed feelings about it.
  18. I don't think you'll have a problem with buying long strings if you just implement a headstock design using those steignberger tuners, you could fit quite a few of them in a tight space if you wanted to.
  19. Thats perfect! It only makes sense to use thumbnails on a forum really now that you think about it. I suppose the dial-up users can sleep easy now
  20. Marquetry & Inlay Handbook Zachary Taylor ISBN: 0806926872 (PS, I own Guitarmaking Tradition & Technology, that is by far my favorite book on this subject) EDIT: Here's another one: Manual of Guitar Technology: The History and Technology of Plucked String Instruments Franz Jahnel ISBN: 0933224990
  21. simple masking, you can do alot with that! I think you should do some kind of pinstriping, like on a rhoads v. I also think that racing stripes down the middle of the v would be awsome!
  22. I'm sure that thing will come in handy, i sure wish i had one for doing archtops!
  23. i'm looking forward to seeing pics of that bass, just make sure you follow the forum rules for posting pics, post a link if you're unsure about them but otherwise it looks like you have quite the job ahead of you
  24. how good are you at custom graphics? i think a simple and not tooo hard idea would be to paint it with the lightning like those dean guitars dimebag played.
