  1. good to know. the scrap piece came out looking awesome but it would suck on the carves and such i assume. Maybe ill just use it as a brush on sealer?
  2. sweet i cant wait to see those tops throw those in the pics too
  3. Bionic, thats what i was thinking. If yours comes out great i would LOVE to buy two haha. a 6 and a 7 string version. I hope there is a demand for them. Anyway, ill be back next week to check on the progress pictures. I cant wait to see how this works. I've been wanting a tremolo multiscale for a while now :-P Cheers!
  4. thanks man each guitar i make the better they come out. :-P
  5. wow that looks awesome! would you charge to make those? I'll be watching this thread closely Great work man
  6. Frets look so nice so here she is currently. nut fits with no gaps at all im stoked
  7. Routed the body for the neck. started shaping the headstock/neck and drilled tuners here is the first bump in the road. I started carving the back of the heel and a huge chip came off. I immediately reglued it and it was invisible. Anyway, neck is shaped/ stained, volute and all
  8. Parts!! drew out the board Routed and fit the truss rod Here is my solution for stopping the stewmac truss rod rattle. Simple and effective. No rattle at all. Only two wraps with painters tape. Glued the fretboard, dressed and polished the frets
  9. I agree with huntindog. It does not look like it moved much at all. I don't see the frets ending up crooked enough with that little movement. If anything there will be the smallest little adjustment at the bridge with the saddles to compensate for the movement to correct the intonation. At least that's what I think. But if this is for a customer, its not that hard to remove the fretboard and reglue.
  10. oh i know that haha. Im just saying thoughts if anyone has tried it and got great results with clear? I might get some after seeing the second coat I hand buffed pretty hard. the semi gloss leaned more toward gloss haha the figure looks great! I might just have to try this stuff on a project soon oh yeah forgot to say, this stuff does shrink a bit back into the pores of the wood so i assume its going to take a lot of coats. ill keep counting and testing on this scrap
  11. either way it still looks freaking awesome. You nailed the vintage burst
  12. I just got this stuff from my dad. he found a huge woodworking finish box at a yard sale for like 5 bucks. Came with a bunch of minwax stuff, different polys, deft cans to brush finishes, stains. etc. In the box I saw this stuff. I figured.. what the heck lets test it on scrap. I put one decently thick coat on a test scrap piece and it came out great! This stuff has like little to no odor at all, dries fast (applied sanded and hand buffed within 30-45 minutes), auto leveled to a thin coat, and dries pretty tough. I just hit my scrap with my keys on a chain and it only left a very small dent. I figure with a lot more coats this stuff would be tough seeing as its supposed to be for floors? This is what it looked like after one coat. Im going to add more tonight and see what i get. hopefully after maybe 4 more i can get a level really shiny finish on this scrap Its hard to get a picture of the shine with my phone but its pretty reflective for one coat. Thoughts? (Ill update as I add coats.)
  13. hmm im interested now too. I'm going to research as well.
  14. nvm guys i just decided to try it and it came out awesome. It basically just looks like a very slightly dyed nitro around the edges now. So i guess the answer is yes as long as its a very very thin nitro coat.
  15. Second question. has anyone used transtint dyes over a nitro base coat for sealer? like if i wanted to add a burst on this guitar im working on. could i just stain into the nitro and add it? I wanted to try and add a burst. Thanks guys! Off to search some more
  16. ok then ill just have to keep testing vigorously on scrap haha thanks Btw, I use the same chisel technique but i dont have gouging files. Do you know where to buy them? I searched online and didnt find any. I suck at searching i guess
  17. black water stains? I got to look this up. Are they different than Trans tint dyes mixed into water?
  18. aww it looked so good :-P was it just something that was a lot of work that you didn't want to repeat?
  19. how did the setup and playing go?
  20. I dont know why but the body shape just looks like "the jetsons" to me. looks awesome though.
  21. whoa. are the frets going to be some kind of gold also?
