  1. My fretwire's in and I've decided that I want to try out a flat fretboard, since I like ridiculously low action. That said, ridiculously low action probably requires some special considerations when building the fretboard. My neck's flat. The fingerboard's stable. The fret slots are cut shallow, ready to be cut to final depth. Any hints on what to look out for and things to do to keep this thing under control? Also, the fretboard's Padauk, 1/4 in thick at the moment.
  2. It does help. I thought it was 12 inch, but wasn't sure. Thanks.
  3. MAN is that purdy!!! Very nice work!!
  4. A dude gave me a Leo Quan Badass Bridge II and I want to use it on my guitar, but I can't figure out the radius. I want to make sure my fretboard gets radiused to the same specs. Anyone able to help me out before I start breaking out the compass and stuff?
  5. I personally like Canvas X by ACDSystems. It's a combination of CAD, Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. It's excellent at technical illustrations and the drawing tools rule. The interface is pretty easy to grasp as well. It also has massive import/export capabilities. If you try it, I can give you some pointers. You can get a trial version of it at the website.

  7. My money goes on the McNaught single cutaway. Everything just works for me on that guitar.
  8. Thanks, that's what I thought, but it never hurts to ask. I haven't glued the top and bottom laminates together, so Ican actually make the channels beforehand and save a lot of trouble.
  9. A bit off topic, but I have to give you props for using the caulk gun as a clamp. I have a ton of these at home and my clamp set just got way bigger. Oh yeah, the guitar looks excellent so far.
  10. I use a blow dryer. It takes a little longer, but I haven't burned a piece yet.
  11. I'm looking for options on myu output jack, and this looks pretty interesting. Any reasons not to use one?
  12. You should get a respirator. I have a cartridge type and it's the best. I was cutting some yellowheart/purpleheart one day and I was nauseous, dizzy and exhausted for two days. You're probably fine, but it's a good practice to protect yourself because some things we work with are just plain toxic.
  13. The headstock is really cool. Tis is going to look great, man. If you need measurements, I have a flying V body at home I can use to get them from.
  14. Here we go: back pickguard. Contact me for anything else you need.
  15. still there. sale or trade....Bueller? Bueller?
  16. I made a strap out of a leather belt. I just cut a hole in one end and put a small slit in it, measured how long I want it to be, trimmed the other end and put the hole/slit there. It's heavy duty. It's not adjustable, but I never adjust a strap after it's set anyway. On the end I trimmed, I just colored it with black Magic Marker so it wasn't raw leather color.
  17. I do it all the time. I just stick the right sized pieces of wood in there and leave the springs in. It's that easy.
  18. I'm getting ready to cut my first fret slots by hand and I have a question. How do you guys get the slots really accurate? When I try and mark them, it's hard to tell if I'm right at the exact 64th of an inch I want. Should I use a magnifying glass and a razor to mark them? And after that, won't the saw kerf travel just a little? A little advice would make my day.
  19. This looks really nice. Can't wait to see more!
  20. Did a bit of work the other day. I sanded down the top and I'm surptised at how nice it's looking. The shape still needs refining, but I'm working in it. I just put the neck template on it and an old fingerboard just for looks. Here's a decent shot of the top. Top
  21. I just did my first one. I came up with a simple way too. You can check on my site. I think yours is easier.
