  1. Sorry for leaving y'all with the horrible raspy pics ... heres some better looking ones. You guys hunt down your own cheap African carvings and leave the aminals anyplace you'd like....... I like 'em right where they are.
  2. Got the neck fretted today and sanded on it a bit. comin along.........
  3. Decided to build a neck for it while I'm doing stuff , so .... I took two big cut-offs from that flea-market Mahogany hunk and a slice of teak and put together this : ^^ this pic up here demonstrates the darkening effect I used on the Teak. The light piece next to it was from the same board as the FB. ^^ Raspy. .... Scarf joint on a 12 degree angle , thunder-chicken HS shape , 24 frets , fanned fret design , 5th as the vert fret - 25.5 on top - 24.75 on bottom , the same setup I did back on my flying scrapocaster. I find it fits my hands real nice. Teak has been darkened and buffed to 600 grit then polished with newspaper. Using my zero fret/ guide fret again, it's proven itself to work great on the other guitars. Oh - Rhinestone dot inlays which just look like imbedded mirrors now.
  4. Here's a quick mock up now that I have the neck set and rasped mostly to shape at the heel . The bridge isn't the right one , I'm waiting on a gold TOM and stopbar setup , and I may change the knobs up to black , but : You can still see all the rasp marks on the heel here : ^^^ and if you look at the edges in the first pic , you can see how I got away without a front or rear rout on a 1 piece Explorer while maintaining the proper swith and knob layout. I made little trap-doors in the edges of the guitar. Gettin there... now LOTS of sanding to do .....
  5. lolz..... sorry - the fret press/el-cheapo hammer thingy.
  6. John - just "borrowed" your idea for my next neck. Trying out the "pyramid" shaped fretwire from SM this time ..... Thanks for sharing your ideers.
  7. The one with the highest moisture content. Wood weight varies from piece to piece - an answer to your question would just be a generalization. Given all = water content , I'd say Mahogany.
  8. heres a linky to the eBay auction ....... http://cgi.ebay.com/Star-guitar-Red-sparkl...=item4a9fbacc9b
  9. cuz natural boobs beat fakies any day. well .... most any day anyhow.

  11. o.k ... all wrapped up and raring to go ! Here's the final rundown... Diner-inspired finish on a "layered tone-wood" body. 2 Guitarheads Hexbuckers , 3 way switch, volume and push-pull tone knob that has an overdrive on the up position. regular tone knob when down - passive - no batteries required. black Licensed Floyd bridge and Jackson tuners Mighty Mite 22 fret Maple neck with skunk stripe.
  12. John ~~~~~ Wayne @ guitarheads.net will hook you up with an engraved neckplate for the cost of a "normal" one. He's got a lot of finished ones , but I'm pretty sure you can e-mail him your specs and he can engrave anything you want ( ie; your name or logo , serial # etc. ) . He did some for me with the band logo on em. Good stuff...
  13. I sometimes get bell brass, go at it with a file & make a heap of filings, Mix it in with clear epoxy. you need to make up the mix while the brass filings are still bright, so within a few hours of filing them. Then use it like filler for your trim. Once sanded smooth (wait 4 days to sand it) it looks realy cool. You can use stainless steel aswell, or chrome. Not chrome plate, actual chrome bar. its a bitch to find but it looks cool. could one use glitter / gold flake too ? Oh the possibilities!!!!!!!
  14. Gonna give us some link-age to the listing? Sure thang ....... http://cgi.ebay.com/Pine-body-Tele-style-C...=item4a9fb20f7f buy it !!!

This is the Comicaster : Specs - Pine 2 piece body , 50's style flat spot at the jack 22 fret Maple neck from Tommy V Rosewood board Dragon Fire pickup set in Black Super hero comic book junkie heaven poster finish Chrome-like edging with pinstripe borders and on with the pics: and here's the build thread ... http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=43080 The closest thing to a normal guitar I've done !
  17. Count me in on the interested party party . Your work is awesome ! I've got an off hand trick to dye wood black that works like a charm. PM if interested..... and yes - PICS of the one piecer !!
  18. No doubt. Not a loaded question at all , just trying to see your angle on it. If , ( if ) I ever use it as a FB , it'd be because I have a slice of it left over and it fits as one. Right now , I'm building a mahogany neck with a teak FB , just to see how it sounds/plays . Now that I have a handle on removing FB's without killing the neck , I'm not as afraid to try something new. I can always just steam it off if its a total dog. Should I ever try it out ( 'Duke ) , I'll be sure to tell about it.
  19. ..... and the last of em . It'll be for sale on eBay shortly...........
