  1. Double D, 6mm is approx .240 inches use a 1/4inch it's .250, I don't think a few thousandths is going to make that much difference. mk
  2. Thanks Jon, I'm still trying to get used to this new Digital camera. Not like the Old days of film. I knew what to do and some tricks work and others don't. LOL:) mk
  3. Thanks PM, the pic does it no justice, It's actually closer to a true emerald color than the pic shows( it still looks drab and blah to me in the pic). Man I wish I could capture it. (anyone out there have tips on GOOD pics to bring out the best with out using film? prefer to use my digital) but again Thanks I'll see if I can get better shots. MK
  4. LOL:) want to buy the keyboard? LOL:) It's an old Yamaha SY77 and it really is for sale LOL:) works great just need to blow out all the dust. As far as the Tele I sanded it back to bare top at noon today, shot the burst and now it has 3 coats of clear LOL:)) It's looking much better than it did. Thanks Erik, BTW let me know what and when to ship to you. MIke
  5. I think Killemall might be right. 14" is usually used on acoustics where the 14th fret meets the body and 12" for those that meet at the 12th fret. Not positive though? So I'll defer to someone else with their experience at this time. MK
  6. Thanks Jon, I think so as well, The other one just didn't look right LOL:) MK BTW: here are the others as well. Some movement on them, Fretboard on the mini335, and Burl top for the DC
  7. Well the FrankenTele has now gotten it's new burst and first clear coat. About time I got back to work on some of these things, LOL:) Well in short I had the tele done but somehow I screwed the pooch and set the bridge wrong ( i know how I did it, but that's another story). After much debate I found a new bridge to minimize the pooch thingy and stripped it down. Now it's going back together. Hope to be finished next week. MK
  8. What is the make and actual length of the truss rod? What kind of guitar? Bass? what? More info is needed to actually answer your question. Assuming you are building say something with 24" to 25.5" scale then somewhere from 17-5/16" to 18" is what you need? Let us know and we can go from there. MK
  9. Killemall, Wooden dowels in the suggested use, expose end grain to the screws, not much strength, whereas maple plugs, set properly with the grain and glued will be much more secure. Just my .02cents!!! MK The holes in the body are through holes that do not require strength for the screw to connect, the screws bolt to the neck not the body. I understand the holes in the body are through holes. Killmall suggested plugging the neck holes. Even then I would go for plugging the body vs. plugging the neck and I would still use plugs instead of dowels. MK

  11. Yes, it is possible. Make sure that your new speaker cabs are wired correctly for the correct ohms rating for the AMP and the speakers are of the correct ohms rating to acheive that. Here are some sites with basic knowledge of speaker wiring. Link Link MK
  12. Rubbish, it has NOTHING to do with the phases of the moon, thats the tides you are thinking of. Its the alignment of the STARS that create great tone alloy mixes. But if the temp is off by a few degrees then !!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the ice will melt faster and this could cause premature case hardening!! LOL:) mk
  13. As you now have learned, start with the light colors and then the dark. Now as far as your problem, You can continue to build up the clear coats and then level sand back until they they work out. Just don't sand back to far into the white. Add more clear coat and repeat until level. Hope that helps? MK
  14. Carl, you wood newb! Limba has a great deal of color variation, although it kind of look likes how the spalt figure grows in maple (and other woods), it's not a weakness in the wood. At least not that I can tell, it seems just as strong! Here's a piece I'll be using within the next year for an 8-string bass build. It's a little too flatsawn or else I would have used it for an acoustic soundboard. edit: Also, kickass work on the neck build! Those laminates go very well together. Hey Jon, no pics of the bookmatch of that yet? LOL:)) That is one nice looking piece of wood. MK
  15. We went through that a few years back with my Father-in-law. My prayers for your Grandma and your family. Sincerely, Mike
  16. But they have a $100 minimum order? Gilmerwood that is. Find a board from them, PM me and I'll place it with one of my orders and give it to Jon for slotting if you want. Then he can send to you and you pay for everything concerning your board to Jon and he'll repay me for the board and shipping. BTW, They don't have any Tulipwood listed at this time that I could find. MK
  17. Wow Matt, Do any look like you? Just Kiddin!!!!! Take care of those cute pups. Hope the Momma is doing well? Make sure she gets plenty of fluids,it helps with the mothers milk production. AWW!!! But you knew that!!! MK
  18. +1 on what Chris has said. Pink eye is a wonderful work of nature but without good woodworking skills will only be a problem and a tragedy to the wood and your hard earned dollars. If you decide to move forward with it, then take it very slow and practice on at least something like ebony(still expensive but not so much), Boisd'arc (spelling, very hard, cheap wood) Practice , practice , practice. Good luck, MK The main reason I wanted to use pink ivory is because I am making an SG with a very light pink body and a pearloid pickguard, and I was going to repeat the pink and pearl finish on the fretboard. After hearing your advice, and after thinking about it, I agree to hold off on it. I think along with your reasons that it is such a beautiful wood, it belongs with a naturally finished body, where the whole thing can be naturally beautiful. I saw a bass once that some guy did using pink ivory. I'll post it here: http://www.alembic.com/info/FC_duo.html Anyways, can either of you (or anyone else), think of a wood I could use that would go well with the pink and pearl body? I'm going to paint the neck white, and probably use MoP Les Paul Deluxe inlays, but I could always change it. Anthing that would look good with that? As someothers have stated my next choice would be tulipwood as well. MK

  20. Hey setch, have you ever tried micromesh?I have always had the same issues on my finishes, until I used micromesh on the cavity cover of my exploder...it came out so much better than anything else...I can't reccomend it enough I love Micromesh. , used wet it lasts almost forever. Amazing that even a satin finish can have a shine like glass when looking at it from an oblique angle. MK
