  1. I dont get what you were trying to say at all.
  2. When I carved the top for my PRS copy, I just used a router and stepped it up then used a DA to get it all final shaped. It isn't dead on perfect like crow does, but it was my first try, and only took me 1.5 hours to do. For those of you who dont like the chisel approach.
  3. Great work as always! How do you rout your neck pockets?
  4. I use the bitterroot guy too. I have gotten one that had a messed up weld, but oh well, they have always served me well.
  5. Bare necks are just better IMO. Painted or even tru-oiled necks are just too sticky for my tastes.
  6. Okay, finally some progress pics, got the neck almost done. I have to do some sanding and drill for the tuning pegs, then buy a fretboard and slot it. This build is going sloooooooooooooooooooooow
  7. Although I do plan on buying a spiral head planer soon. When I get warped boards I stack the boards leave them in an even lower humidity environment with lots of weight on them. I give that a week, then move it to my 50% room with a little less weight on them for about 2 weeks. What that doesn't handle I just go over on with my DA sander with 60 grit followed by a straight edge. Yout stuff looks like it isnt warped much, just sand it some.
  8. Well I can resaw it for you. If you want just a couple of sets, then you wouldn't get killed on shipping.
  9. I can get you some curly mango! I am in the states though. But I can get you some you can resaw into tops.
  10. Are these prices out of line or something? I haven't sold much, and I am scratching my head as to why. All the sapele blanks I have ever bought were comperable in price.

  12. I have 13 blanks that I am selling. They are all in great condition, have all been stored in a stable, 50% humidity environment. They are 19" long by 14" wide by 2" thick. All thick enough for 1pc bodies, or whatever you want to do. I have sold on here before and never screwed anyone. I am asking 90$ shipped and paypal'd to the US (except alaska and hawaii). They all have fantasic grain, no cracks. Here are some pictures of what they look like, this is only a representative pic, you wont be getting this exact blank.
  13. If it were me and it were a guitar for myself, and not a customer, I would continue sanding and get all my finish sanding done through out the guitar, then I would patch that area with some body filler, and sand it smooth, then just hit it with sealer, then paint, then clear. If it's for a customer. Start over.
  14. Well, leveled the top, then took out the cove bit and started the topography carve, and I got my drum sander and sanded out a relief in the lower horn. Can't do anymore of the carve until I get the back leveled, place my control knobs, and route out the back.
  15. Finally a little progress, body is cut out and done, neck has been scarf jointed and just need to route the truss rod channel, then I need to figure out what electronics configuration to use and then get started on all that. Btw, the curl looks more impressive in this pic than it actually is. But I decided to let my wife decide how she wants it, so it may not be a goldtop anymore, whatever she wants is what I will do. I have to admit, for this to be for her, it sure is a heavy bugger.
  16. Here is one I came up with by stealing a few of Myka's ideas. To get the neck angle right, all you have to do it put the bridge you are going to use under the jig and you're there. Use double sided tape, clamps, whatever, I made this out of 1/2" thick MDF. http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=44897
  17. Wondering what exotic or awesome tops you are using or saving for special projects. Here are 2 of mine.
  18. Got started on this today, will do the scarf joint on the neck on Thursday, I have too much going on right now. Neck will be mahogany, Body will be sapele, top will be paint grade maple. I am not sure what color I am going to paint it. But I got the basic design on there, and routed for the toggle switch, I am going to run the wires through the neck pickup into the bridge pickup cavity into the control cavity, much easier to do it this way. This is an original design of mine.
  19. Very excellent month indeed! I was nervous about putting my guitar on here because it wasn't going to win next to all these other excellent entries, but I wanted to go through trial by fire. Swedish - Very clean! Not a big fan of that long upper horn, but I like the finish and headstock and the scarf accent. Restoration - Gets my vote. I don't buy guitars anymore, but I would buy that one. It's just 100% clean. 3Dog - Like the all mahogany body, I'm not a fan of the small dot inlays, but you did a really good job with this. Avengers - I followed this thread, you did really good work, especially with those inlays, not a huge fan of that top, or the burst, but you did awesome with the clear coat on this. Looks like a mirror. JesseJames - You're a douchebag. Crow - Love this build too. I like the white back on that black topped guitar. I would have liked this guitar more if it had a better top, this one is nice, but there is almost no figure in the very middle. Just doesn't "pop" to me. But I like your overall design of it. Orgmorg - Cool theme, nice back wood. Just doesn't really speak to me personally, but top notch work. Madhattr - I remember this build too, EXCELLENT job on it. Definately my 2nd choice. Super clean work.
  20. Necks are retardedly easy to build. I think there is just a stigma about them, but really, they are a breeze to do.
  21. The Mellowcaster. Body: Crotch Maple Top African Mahogany Back Flame Maple cavity Cover Neck: Set Claro Walnut Mexican Rosewood Fretboard Electronics and hardware: Seymour duncan hot rails 250k volume and tone CTS pots All parts extended input jack Stew Mac Medium Fretwire Fender tuning pegs Jap bridge Plays like butter and has awesome sustain, and was a joy to build!
  22. The fretboard is one from stewmac, it was just rosewood. I ordered 2 from them, both of them turned out to have really nice grain and everything. And I will probably dremel those screws down after the first string change. Thanks!
  23. I still have to go in and make the cavity cover plate, and spray a shielding paint in there, but for all intents and purposes, it's done! Hope you all enjoy!
