  1. sorry if this is a silly question, but i'm about to do this and i wanna make sure it's ok. i've got a guitar body (bare wood at the moment), that i was going to leave natural on the face, but stain the back and sides. i planned on using some watco's danish oil to bring out the figuring on the face, but can you then clear over an oil finish, or will the oil mess up the clear? sully
  2. wow...i was talking about this very thing last night!!! i've got someone lookin into router bits for me and i think we're gonna give it a go. sully
  3. okay, i'll try to get it together for ya this weekend... i'm not an autocad artist, so i can't help ya there, but i can at least get you the pics you need, and i'll take some measurements for ya. are you looking to completely recreate one? warmoth also has those bodies if it would make life easier for ya. the pickups i went thru were stock (which sounded flat), then a 59 (not enough oomph) went in the bridge, then a distortion (too hot and brittle in that guitar), then a gibson something or other (back to 59-ville), and now a jb is in there, and for now it seems okay. the neck pickup has been a jazz, and imo, it's the greatest neck pickup ever. admittedly i don't play it much, but it's a nice playing guitar that's just too lightweight for my taste. sully
  4. it's an ic-500 which is the cool iceman body, not that ridiculous one that you can get now, it has a set neck, black chrome hardware (tom/stoptail), pearloid binding on body, neck & headstock. if i didn't love the shape so much, i would have sold it years ago, as it's poorly balanced (super neck heavy, even though the strap knob is in a good spot), and it's taken 4 pickup swaps to find something that will make the (b)asswood body sound anything like a guitar should. it's definitely the only ibenhad i'll own... (sorry, i know that this may not be the place to share those feelings...) imo, they should have kept the mahogany body construction of the 70s, or at least used alder...you can't expect someone to shell out over $800 on a guitar that is made of (b)asswood. not sure what you're askin me to do though, i'm guessing you want to eventually have a template? i can take a few pix for ya if that will help you make one. i know the nut width is 1 3/4, but i'll measure the scale length and body thickness this evening if i have time tonight... which i doubt as it's 8:20pm, and i should have left work 2 hours ago... ugh. more realistically, i'll try to get to it this week. sully
  5. i've got one...what info are you looking for?
  6. hey, do any of you guys know anywhere you can get neck thru blanks that are 22 fret with a 25.5 scale? i think the stew macarvin blank is cool, but i'd want something a bit different.. 22 fret, 25.5 scale, and a 1 5/8 nut would make me a very happy sully. sully
  7. That's probably exactly what companies like Jackson & ESP use for all their graphics... At least on their "production" models. all of jackson's graphics are traditionally painted, not shrink wrap or screen printing. sully
  8. i'd go for the V... but even better than a king V is the original king V (the ones robbin crosby played), also called a double rhoads, as it's the long wing of a rhoads doubled. they're about 2" longer than a standard king v. which is a cool thing if you're tall! sully
  9. i need one too...? sullyguitars@aol.com
  10. heh, he's selling it on the jcf, too... (glad to know we're not considered the "other" board) on his own site, there's hi res pix of it. you can see the back of the paper coming through...it's definitely not painted on there, but carefully applied comic book pages. sully
  11. dunno how much it is, but i think the tension is adjusted the way the old ones are. i spoke with floyd about it at winter namm...it's neat, but i'm not running out to get one. sully
  12. i'd personally use a rubber mallet instead of a hammer on wood, but that's just me. sully
  13. ...you mean i'm not the only one who does this? SWEET!!!! sully i think your strat gives new meaning to a flame top! looks pretty cool!
  14. thanks! the plates are actually engraved; i've got someone who machines them for me. sully
  15. hi guys, pretty excited about my current project, so i thought i'd share a link to some pix. (dialup alert...the pics are large.... http://www.sullyguitars.com/site/page/pg1820.html sully
  16. right, i gotcha on that part. thanks! sully
  17. hey all, i'll soon be workin on cuttin my own bodies (as opposed to my own body..heh.), and i was wondering if there's a tool that's used to get the rounded sides of the strat. i'm assuming this isn't done by hand with files and rasps, etc... i thought i read in a thread here that there's a tool that's essentially run around the perimiter of the body that takes care of it? .... does that make ANY sense at all? sully edited for spelling...
  18. hmmmm.....none of the above?
  19. TC? not sure what that is... i live in the dallas area, if that's what you meant.....? sully
