Hey guys just wondering a few things. Im considering ditching my current project and taking on a whole different look. a tony zemaitis guitar sort of look.. with a few ideas of my own. One of the ideas being a headstock with classical tuner style layout ie the tuners on the side instead of on the back. the question here is how thick do the sides need to be before it will be deemed unsafe?.... does it really matter as long as the tuners have wood to be held in by the screws? have a look at these pictures 1 2 now thats thin ^ thats about what it would have to be on my neck. I was also thinking about making a jig to drill another set of holes (lower on the peg) in some machine heads i have (gotoh's vintage ones with tulip keys)... would that be wise or could it weaken it? Also are Zemaitis guitars flat tops or carved(not talking about the metal tops)? i cant tell all the pics i have seen they look like flat tops but some in the light make them look carved....

Gotta love the 1996-2001 camaro ss slp my god.... my parents own a 97 ss slp, i love it..... so freaking beautiful and has a helluva sound it only cost them $9000 us and in 4 years (parents retire and move overseas) i will buy it for 4000$ lol go the plastic, poplar sounds tacky(IMO, no offense).....might i ask why not use abalone or mop or something similar?

how far up the neck can a scarf joint be? cause i have a nice slab of mahogany thing is when you put it up to a neck on a lp it goes up the the nut so the scarf would have to be a tad further down if i wanted to make a neck out of it.

why doesnt epiphone make that guitar anymore? if it was cheap 400$ Au id maybe consider buying one to have on hand when i do some repairs mods to my greco lp. and why dont they make the epiphone scroll anymore id definitally buy one of those if the price was right

you will never see that after a finish is put on it.... infact i can barely see it now

something like this Picture Tony Zemaitis's guitars have some really cool wide bridges aswell.... stunning....... imo about the stain, id go for option 1 stain the top and sides of top...

hey nice looking progress so far.. ive kinda aquired a taste for these style of guitars lately. IMO id go for the swirl, after i saw Zendrix's swirl on his lp it grew on me. how did you screw up on the horn? is it the fact that it is not 90 degrees?

Just to clarify, are you talking about a guide bushing? We've discussed it here before but I want to be sure I know what you mean. ← in the picture named "template mounted" it looks to me like he has a guide bushing on it instead of a bit with a bearing. and in the pic named "second pass with router" you can see a step between the template and the body cut which does indicate he was using a bushing, unless it was a bearing alitte bit bigger than the bit?????????? thatd be strange tho nate - keep up the good work.

the black keys is a great band that not too many people know about, well over here in australia they dont, dunno about america considering that is where they are from.

danm looking good dont put too much leds on the guitar or else it will end up looking like vegas. cant wait to see some more progress pics.

im loving this guitar, i really like the un-symetrical aspect of it. love the f-holes... cant wait to see some more progress.. how about a picture of the lacewood, god its a wierd looking wood in a good way.

nice.. i really like the p90/humbucker combo +1 and you will obtain alot more satisfaction when the job is done.

I use a makita, probobally the same one you had. Makita BO6030 it works great.... *edit* the only thing i dont like about it is the fact that it kills my hand becuase i like to tilt it to touch up on spots instead of whole areas but thats not really what its designed for so i guess i cannot complain.

thx buddy that sounds reasonable.... you could always cut out a shape similar to the horns on your 350 and test route them to see how hard/easy it is

i dont know much at all about emg pickups so i cant answer that. the reason for different sandpaper is the difference in how coarse or fine it is... the higher the number ie 2000 the finer the sandpaper is and the smoother the job will end up, the lower the number the more coarse it gets, so if you use coarse paper the job will get done much quick but it may leave it a bit rough, thats when you break out a finer sheet then go over the areas that are rough then get an even finer sheet and repeat the process until your guitar is very very smooth hope that helps

Ive heard some pretty bad wraps about the Smaller Grizzly tools ie - their bench drill press havent heard much about craftsman ill second the opinion about getting the delta 9in bandsaw and i would say go for the 10in delta drill press aswell work bench id make my own as M_A_T_T said.
