  1. I'm going to be building one of those Saga tele kits. ASM, I'd love to be able to use a gun, but I don't have access to one. That said, is there any extra wood prep. necessary to use automotive paints?
  2. I'm looking into the Duplicolor Mirage line (http://www.duplicolor.com/products/mirage.html) for my next axe. After reading the thread on acrylic poly's (http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...t=0entry77844), I just want to be sure that this stuff will work well on a guitar... The other option is the Krylon version (http://www.krylon.com/main/product_templat...product_details), but I have no idea what's in that stuff. Should I just go ahead and use the Mirage?
  3. That's the downside to computers: the programs usually run around $500 or so, and by the time you're done, you're paying as much, if not more than for that Fostex. They can do much more, the question is whether or not you're willing to drop that kind of scratch.
  4. While we're on the subject, how are the pickups in those things? I'm looking at buying a tele.
  5. Which is why every good player has a pipe clamp (or two or three) on his headstock!
  6. I'll second that. Carvin has the best, hands-down, and they do custom-shop work for ridiculously low prices.
  7. You could get an inflatable one...
  8. Well, it's kinda like guitars... you don't drop the scratch for a Jem or a Gibson when you're starting, but when you get serious about it, you (generally) don't spend too much time looking at GRX's.
  9. It goes to the saddles. Think about it simply: where does the string stop vibrating? As it crosses the saddle.
  10. That's not quite what I had in mind... I was thinking of a white body, black knobs, tuners, pickguard and bridge, with, say, a gold switch, and gold pickup rings. That would look awesome (IMO).
  11. If you're going black and white, be sure to throw just a wee touch of gold trim in there for class.
  12. You could bypass that if you just pop the floyd out... edit: that's assuming that the guitar has a floyd in the first place...
  13. A few Fender necks are set up for that (SRV sig model), but I'd think you'd know that when purchasing. The only thing would be if it's got an AANJ, it might not work...
  14. I'd say you got a deal... what kind of wood is it (if you know)?
  15. Personally, I've built one... did just about everything from scratch but the neck (purchased from Carvin), and can be seen here: http://fullservesite.com/reaper520/guitar.JPG I'm currently planning my second one, which will probably be done from a kit.
  16. I know it's not your question, but bite the bullet and get a StewMac template... I tried to make my own, and believe you me, it was a waste of time. I blew almost a year on that alone before I went out and bought a template. From there it took off. I suppose if you could mill one, you might be able to get away with it, but something tells me if you don't have a router, you probably don't have a mill...
  17. Why you would want to use it as a volume pot on another guitar is beyond me... but the answer is yes, you could.
  18. It's just my opinion, but Speed Metal Symphony (the song) was a work of absolute genious, regardless of the speed. Whatever...
  19. It's a damn shame what happened to that guy. He was far beyond most of today's players, even (as much as I hate to say it) Steve Vai.
