  1. Or you can get the 3M stuff that lots of places sell, its good stuff as well. Jeff
  2. Thanks, Well after alot of time and effort I have got the bass bar done its hard to get the right curve to the botom of it so that there are no gaps. Well now on to finishing the neck i started. Jeff
  3. The only reason im building one is one of my good friends has his grade 10 in violin and he said he was going to teach me. Plus i wanted to see what being a "real" luthier ( if you can call it that) is like when all you use are hand tools. Its been hard as hell to keep the top and back plates even thickness seeing as all i have are the good old fasion calipers not some fancy digital meter. At least I got to trace and get the measurments from a kit my friend bought. I also am not going completly legit i did buy a pre made ebony fingerboard ( I think it has an ebony veneer on top for some reason... Maybe just to make it look higher quality. M_A_T_T's tutorials have been soooo usful better then any book. He keeps it simple and does every thing by hand and doesnt use to many expensive tools i cant get my hands on. Im kind of a starving student. Also The guitars I have been building are comming along well finnaly got my parts ordered in so i could get to work. More pics on thos soon as well. All i can say is im doing an inlay that has over a 100 peices... Its the legendary norse serpent that lay at the bottom of the sea and it's all twisting and inter-twining down the neck. Hopefully iy will look cool when its done.. wish me luck on this its my 2nd inlay! Jeff
  4. Well M_A_T_T has influenced me and i'm now making a violin. Wish me luck! The back and top are made and and dont look to bad. Attaching the bass bar as been the most difficult for some reason. Even bending the sides was alot less dificult then getting the bas bar level and true. Well you live and learn. The purfling channels were easy to make with my fordom flex shaft routery tool. Now to work on the neck seeing as the bas bar is giving me hell. I have been using hide glue but its been very picky I was ondering if using titebon would really sacrafice sound or if it really matters? Ill have some picks up in a bit! if anyone has done violins or the like before, where do people get your stain pigments? Jeff
  5. Remember that half of them end up dead... R.I.P poor guitar bodies lol. Jeff
  6. Hey Drak what kind of gun do you recommend? I have no idea what to go for Ive seen cheap ones at Home Depot and places and had no idea if they were suitable. Are there any brands that you recommend? syphon feed? Gravity feed? Ive heared way to much conflicting information that really all i want to know is a setup thats under 500canadian (including compressor) that will get me off the ground and finnishing some guitars. Thanks, Jeff
  7. Ok Drak say you get a nice peice of burl that has a few pits and bark excursions. What should you full them with? Id love to hear some sound clips when this guitar is done! ~Jeff
  8. By the was Drak where do you get your wood? Or is it a secret? ~Jeff Your burl and all your nice top wood. Thanks ~Jeff
  9. By the was Drak where do you get your wood? Or is it a secret? ~Jeff
  10. Do we really wanna know :S. By the way Drak will you be filling the burl excursions with clear epoxy or tinited? It would be great if we got pictures off the process, I have always wanted to work with burls but i didn't really fully understand the filling process enough to try. Thanks Jeff
  11. How does that thickness sander work for 1/4-1/8th material? Id love to get one for that but didnt know if it would just mutalate the wood. Thx Jeff
  12. Sounds nice! Where did you get the schematics? And where did you get your transformers? Ive only found one place and they are all over 150 canadian which seem a bit much for making a small amp. Pics and sound clips would be great! good job on your build. Jeff
  13. Im my shop all I have is a 14 inch Canwood bandsaw, a mastercraft 10 inch drill press i got for 30 bucks, bocsh router, and hand tools, Id have to say the tool i use the most is a scraper and the router. Really if i didnt buy wood i needed to saw i wouldnt use the band saw really besides the speed factor. A table saw would be really nice tho but i dont know if a small 10 inch can handle some of the hard wood luthiers throw at tools. So i dont know where to start shopping for one. Jeff
  14. Remember you can always add the Plugins later when your mixing down and mastering.
  15. Or.... You could use active pickups and no one would be the wiser.... But im sure it will sound fine. I think assically if theres more wood then glue in the guitar your ok.
  16. Just remember on board sound cards and even the higher end entertainment cards like creatives x-fi dont have the best conversion componenets as well as suffer from latancy problems. Your best bet for a nice clean recording is a good interface, it doesnt even have to be fancy. there are plenty of firewire ones on the market that are amazingly good for there price. I just want people to understand that its almost the most important part of your recording system.
  17. Just think of how rich that guy is now LOL. Not bad becoming a millionare off some 10 cent peice of scotch bright pad on the side of a mop!
  18. Yea np, I Just recomend if you wanna get some good recordings get a small nice interface. There way better then any creative or onboard soundcard. Good luck with your laptop purchase. Jeff
  19. just hold the coils together and toss it 10 feet in front of you wither on the shop floor our out side and let it unfold it self. Remember to throw it teeth up so you dont damage them.
  20. Just to let you know i never acused you of stealing. I dont wanna seem like some mean guy im really not. By the way if your spending that much money on a laptop get a nice firewire interface. M-audio, motu, emu and many other companies sell some nice ones. Your sound quality will improve a 100 fold. Just my 2 cents Jeff
  21. Ha no problem. thanks by the way thanks for the heads up on that stewmac thing SOOOOOOOO much help Mattia. Just what i needed. Im going to try out these new locking TOM's on stewmac. Wish me luck haha
  22. O i know that i just thought it was relevent information to setting up the TOM correctly. Sorry for the confusion.
  23. I have a drawing and such I know how much i have to recess the bridge, i just dont know the angle the TOM bridge has to be to have the correct intonation. It's a flat toped guitar just to clarify things. By the way the guitar is a neck thru and the only height the fret board has is its own thickness. I just want to know how far back the low E string has to be compared to the 25 inch mark. Like you see on gibsons the bridge isnt perpendicular to the centerline, its on an angle.
  24. Agreed but really i dont think its worth worrying about. People will steal software and there really isnt anything we as forum users can do about it. My beef is more when i walk into proffesional studios and see there using priated copies of the software. Anyone who makes money with the software there is no discussion, they need to purchase it! There is less harm in people downlaoding software that if they had to purchase it they wouldnt buy it then with some company that needs it for there buisness. Its still wrong and I would never steal software and the like but im more leanient on users who really wouldnt have purchased it in the first place. But rmember it doesnt make it anyless worng, but i feel less reason to argue in that regard. It really isnt worth my time. Demo's are your friends people. Jeff
