  1. Holes for the pots and jack are drilled, and they are now about ready to have some fingerboards glued on them.
  2. Finally some more progress, and quite drastic progress at that! Pickup routs are done without faults, which is a very cool feeling. So is the control cavity rout, Daniel's is a bit cleaner than mine but its still good enough. The channels we routed for the pickup wires are still intact and glue free so no problems there. They look really good so far if I do say so myself. Next up: finish shaping the headstock, carving the elbow and tummy contours, fitting the fingerboards, shaping the neck etc. Have a looksy, enjoy. http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n191/Ne...es/DSCF0189.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n191/Ne...es/DSCF0192.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n191/Ne...es/DSCF0199.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n191/Ne...es/DSCF0201.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n191/Ne...es/DSCF0203.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n191/Ne...es/DSCF0204.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n191/Ne...es/DSCF0206.jpg
  3. I was expecting the weight before we even started. And yes, it does smell a bit at times, we work in a garage with the door open so smells disappear quickley enough.
  4. Thanks for the compliments guys. About the resin pockets, yeah, they do add character. The ones on the side of the upper bout could cause a problem though. They are most likely going to show on the front and back if we add a traditional elbow contour and tummy cut, which when it gets flakey will look and feel bad. I seem to remember Drak filling resin pockets on some of his Telecasters, but does anyone else have some advice on how best to do this? Any advice would be greatly apreciated. Thanks. Edit: jmrentis, I quite like zebrawood. Works well enough. Would I use it again? I might somewhere in the future, I love the looks of it. It is heavy though, and I'll have to see what it sounds like.
  5. Thanks, this wasn't for a project of mine and these were the only products available for the person I asked it for I think.
  6. Here's the other bass awaiting pickup cavities and the controll cavity. Killer grain but some resinpockets on the front and side. http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n191/Ne...0I/P7030288.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n191/Ne...0I/P7030289.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n191/Ne...0I/P7030293.jpg http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n191/Ne...0I/P7030299.jpg Enjoy
  7. Hi guys, I've got a question on what to use as a filler for mahogany when a trans black will be aplied over it. The two products (both minwax) in question are: http://www.minwax.com/products/woodprep/stainable-fill.cfm and http://www.minwax.com/products/woodmaint/putty.cfm Am I right in thinking the Stainable Filler is more suitable for the job? Thanks a bunch in advance, Maurits
  8. I believe the rules state 1 pic per post, with the rest being links.
  9. Looks cool, that leopardwood sure nice. Not my favorite headstockshape, but that built in tuner must be nice to have. Are the other 17 also acoustics? And was the soundclip : Well Alright by Blind Faith followed by Classical Gas (not sure about the first one)?
  10. Looks good, much better than my crude/quick attempt.
  11. Hope your brother likes it as much as you do, looks like it won't be a problem. That color is very cool.
  12. Looks good, just make sure you don't rip open your hand on those saddle adjustment screws sticking out. Might have missed it, but how did you secure the back cover? Magnets?
  13. Beautiful work, looks very nice. Are you talking 7 string bass or guitar?
  14. Nice one, looks good. Did you chisel out that entire cavity? Or is it only the cleaning up you do with chisels? I might have missed it, but what finish are putting on it?
  15. Very nice work. Much nicer than one I built which still looks like a 2X4, your son has a cool father.
  16. That looks terrific, beautiful top. Please do pot some more pics for us (headstock, back etc). Looks like a GOTM contender to me, you'd get my vote.
  17. Would love to see this finished, looks very nice. I've played Dan's SG and he isn't lying about how nice it plays, doesn't sound too shabby either.
  18. If you go for a side mounted jack you could also use the hole you have for that to drill completely horizontally to the pup cavities.
  19. Looks like a good build. Not my favorite shape (might be the headstock) but the work looks good, nice finish too. Controls look a bit close to each other though.
  20. Thanks Alan. Right now I've got some singlecut stuff going on in my head and have been doing some doodling, might make one my next build. BTW. I looked over your website(looks very good, esp. the gallery section) and saw that you do fretless basses with flat fingerboards, how comfortable are those to play when compared to, say, a 10 inch radius? And would you personally choose a flat board or one with the 16 inch radius? Thanks.
  21. Those look very good together, very Fodera-ish. You have every reason to be proud of that new body. BTW, what is that bridge on the old body? Looks sort of selfmade. And are you building another neck for that old body?
  22. Very striking wood, absolutely stunning. This is really helping my wanting a singlecut bass.
  23. Then I'd go for as hard a finish as you can get.
