  1. New toy today I needed one anyway, so got one big enough to do some spraying. (50l 3hp)
  2. You are an artist. That looks incredible and such attention to detail. I'm not a fan of relics normally, but that is a work of art
  3. Beautiful as ever! What's next, what's next?
  4. Actually, thinking about it, you might be able to remove the fretboard and truss rod, then scarf in a new headstock?
  5. Ooh nasty. As Mr Findlayson says, there's not much left to attach anything to. You'll certainly have difficulties accessing the truss rod. You could probably save the fretboard if you make a new neck
  6. Have you got a photo of the break? How much wood is left past the nut? It might open a few more suggestions
  7. When they go over them hills they is high, innit
  8. Do the initials mean the same in Finnish? @mistermikev For F***'s Sake!
  9. No, just a simple fret job. It's my least favourite activity, so nothing fancy. The "binding channels" are where the neck blank is still a bit wider than the fretboard. That will be carved away soon The customer (my guitarist) wants it to be simple like the original. He's already turned down several "enhancements" I've suggested. I'm just trying to execute it as best I can
  10. This is why guitar building is going slowly... Ok, so technically it wasn't on the bench when I took the photo, but it is what is hogging the bench space. That and it's far dirtier conjoined twin (next weekend's job!)
  11. Last night I got the rest of the frets in and did a first rough file of the fret ends It's starting to look like a guitar It's a public holiday next Monday, so no class. There seem to be more weeks off than on just recently!
  12. I feel your pain. I managed to chip a lot of lacquer off my Nozcaster fretboard while scraping it off the frets. I also scorched it around the tuner ferrules while pressing them in too hot. It took an age to fix the damage. You will fix it eventually and you'll be even more proud of the result when you get it right after the extra effort. Take your time, it's not a race
  13. That looks rather nice with the contour lines. I bet that would look good as a finish - either painted on, or better still the top made out of laminated maple and purple heart
  14. Well the engine is a sight cleaner and ready to split the case to take a good look at the bearings & journals and give the case a more thorough clean. No progress on the guitar
  15. I hammered in the frets and just used the press as a clamp while the CA dried. I'm not keen on hammering - I've dinged the board again. Out with the steam iron soon
  16. Back at class, I hand-reamed the tuner holes to fit the odd-sized ferrules (8.75mm or thereabouts?!) I then had time to fit half a dozen frets. Hammered in, a dab of CA at either end, then clamped in the class' Stewmac fret press There's a few weeks' break from classes now. I might get a few minutes of fettling at home, but I've really got to crack on with the engine strip & rebuild to keep Mrs Norris happy
  17. I have an old belt that the buckle broke off. It's now attached to my workmate as a handy strop. Great for restoring the sharpness every once in a while
  18. Very brave. At least you should get useable boards out of it eventually
  19. That's interesting. I've not built an acoustic (yet) but the way my instructor does it is to make a negative form and use internal clamps to push the sides into it. Nicely designed jig btw
  20. It's the way it's provocatively reclining in the chair, isn't it? I might just press a few frets into it next week
