  1. Very cool Tele Drak.Love the Longhorn. One of these 2 guitars are going to make it's way down to my sister in Texas. She would have loved a longhorn (F hole?).What is with all the knobs? Does it have built in effects?
  2. Quite seriously one of the nicest guitars I have ever seen.A first build.Go figure.I think I have another 10 to go before going toe to toe with your craftsmanship.Unbelievable!!!
  3. Never seen a Thunderbird yet that I liked but yours looks pretty cool.Almost makes me want to build a Thunderbird. No!! must resist temptation!!Aughhh!!!!
  4. Bit of a commute but I have a Porter Cable router!!And a 16 inch surface planer!!!
  5. Been a while since I have updated this post. The walnut Tele is in it,s first coats of nitro. My Blue Tele is Final coated and hanging ready for assembly. For the blue one I am going Humbucker bridge and a chrome single for the neck.Still not sure if I will be putting a pickguard on yet.Tuners are Wilkinson double lock chrome. The walnut is awaiting it's GFS dream 90 gold with pearl P 90s.Will have gold Grovers if I can afford itThe neck for the blue one is also dyed blue and the walnut gets a natural maple on maple with ebony markers. The blue one started out as a Thinline but just did not want to cut in the F holes so it will stay a highly chambered solidbody
  6. Hi all I am located in beautiful Dundas ontario Canada.I have a nice well equipped shop with all necessary tools to build guitars.I am looking for someone to bounce ideas off and build guitars with.I have been building now for about 2 years and have completed 5 guitars.I am usually in the shop from 5pm until around 7:30.Would like the companionship but also the safety of having 2 people in the shop when running power tools.I have 23 years experience as a carpenter and I am completely addicted to building guitars.Don,t care about experience but must be power tool savvy.
  7. This is a picture of the other Tele I am working on.The back has been grainfilled and is almost ready for clearcoat.Waiting on parts for both guitars and the bridge pickup is now going to be be a Humbucker or a P90.So far am happy with the colour.Back came up a little green but looks really nice.
  8. I am from Dundas Ontario Canada.I use strictly imperial measure.I am a carpenter and the industry has been reluctant to change to metric. All roadsigns and nearly everything else is metric.I agree metric is much easier to use and more accurate but I will stick with what I feel comfortable with.Good to see that the money we have laid down for your book is going to something um practical Mr Hiscocks.Good on you!!
  9. Interested in your oddysey.Any pics? How much do you want for it.Pm me if you still have it.Thanks Rich
  10. This is a bass that I made out of oak.I have also made an SG and am in the process of making a Thinline Tele with an oak back and a maple cap.Tone on the bass is very good and the SG sounds excellent.Really tough wood to grainfill and sanding the endgrain is a challenge but is worth the effort.I would glue up the blank and let it sit for a while because no matter how dry it may check badly
  11. I like the way yours is going.A Tele with a TOM very cool. You have the nicest and cleanest bench I have ever seen. Please never invite me and my skilsaw over.Your router isn't even dusty.Mine is encrusted
  12. I have only 1 set neck guitar. It is a Switch Oscar and playing it is a pleasure. It is also 97%plastic.Humidity is not a problem.I like bolt ons just for the fact that I can shim them or swap them out or refret them without a body attatched.I will probably never make a neck through guitar because a twisted neck would be terminal.Actually my Switch is a neck through kinda one piece thingy.I also like the look of a neckplate
  13. Love the back.Well done and nice burst!!
  14. Top looks great. What is the back made out of.When it comes to spraying there are a huge number of variables. Is your gun HVLP or High pressure? Are you running filters and water seperaters.Setting up any gun to spray isn't all that hard but getting it to work well is a true challenge. If you can get it right you will never go back to rattle cans.Practice a ton before you lay a coat on that nice looking top.Good luck. Can't wait to see it done!!!
  15. Nice looking lumber.Excellent so far.How is that wood to work with? Looks like Walnut to me.What is Blackwood?
  16. That is a great finish.Ilove everything about the guitar except for the heart shaped cavity cover. This is definitely GOTM quality.Exceptional work!!!
  17. Tele Tele Tele !!!! There are too many strats to go around.Teles you can bind them;you can cap them;you can relic them and as of late you can make them out of pine and nothing in this world looks better with a Bigsby(SG comes a close second)_I am also making a thinline Tele out of Oak with a Quilted maple cap.
  18. There is not a tool left of where those outlines were. They were drawn about 15 years ago and I swear if they were drawn this morning you would not find what you were looking for.Last night I used a rivetgun as a hammer because the 5 cheapies I bought last week are MIA.The only tool in our shop that doesn't move is the broom.Sigh
  19. A truly impressive first guitar.Inlays look very well done. How come no strings?
  20. Did you build the neck?Great looking strat!!!
  21. This is my newest project.I would call this pretty darn lucky. The board that this is made of was sitting outside my shop for about 15 years.I used it as a ramp into our storage shed for a while as well. When our planer blades are ready for a swap out I run all the crap lumber through it and this board was one of them. From a 2 by 8 by 6 foot I was able to salvage enough for this blank. The picture is of the back;the front is completely clear and beautiful For the first time ever I am going to pimp a guitar in gold I plan on using either a standard tele bridge or a Hipshot string through.Pickups are going to be GFS dream white perloid with gold cases.Tuners will hopefully be gold Grovers For the finish it will probably nitro Walnut is a beautiful wood to work with. The pictureis of it sanded to 60 grit.Just sanded to 600 and it already shines. It also routes very nicely at slower speeds.Gonna be a heavy guitar but not overly.Should be about the same weight as an LP Neck is a maple on maple
  22. Not sure if Leo would be impressed. This was a small project I took on for a friend. It started out a beat to death Elcheapo Strat copy.He wanted something outrageous and Batmanish. The initial shape was done with minimal planning and a 4 inch hole saw.The only problem was filling in the front of the guitar where the rout for the controls went.I remedied that with a dovetail bit in the router. With the shaft of the bit following the origional control cavity and set to the origional depth it undercut the cavity by about 3/16.I was then able to cut with a coping saw from the back(on avery slight angle). This gave me a slightly bigger piece than the cutout on the top.It took just a little shaping it fit perfectly. The body was a soft mahogany with boring grain so the patch piece was unnoticeable.I could have done this in a transparent finnish if I had wanted.I then cleaned up the backside of the guitar and made a new cavity cover. The pickguard was cut from the origional one.It was finished in a prismatic paint .This guitar is incredibly light and plays as well as a cheap copy can.I took care in setting it up and played much better than origional.Gotta admit it was fun brutallizing someone elses guitar for a change.Just finished an SG and starting on 2 Teles. Will post pictures later
  23. Truly nice paint.Watched this thread and the end was like a Hitchcock movie.I was expecting shiny black and got Texas in all it's glory.Nicely done
  24. I am an electronic moron and need your help.I am building an SG that has 1 volume and 1 tone pot.I pretty much copied a Epiphone Special. The pickups on my Epiphone have a single wire and a ground. The pickups that I want to use are a V1 and V2 from an Ibanez and have a ground and 2 wires.I am using a regular 3 way switch. Thanks
