  1. this is not meant to be harsh but, if your not sure what to do you shouldnt be gluing things together or starting your build just yet. do a little more research then ask questions.
  2. it looks short but most of the head stock its off the edge of the neck, as in i need to glue the sides on. i actually have about 1" extra tis long enough.
  3. finally i started build #2. i decided to challenge my self now that i know that i can make a guitar thats a player. on this one i did my first inlay and will try to bend a forearm contour. i wanted something less pointy and "metal" so i decided to just make a soloist. made some progress but i still cant decide what color its going to be. i was thinking either a desert burst or a yellow to green burst thing(like that green dimebag guitar that was on here), most likely with gold hardware. SPECS 25 1/2" scale 24 frets Floyd Rose H-S-S pups, maybe a sustainiac sustainer Neckthru w/ flame maple and rosewood laminates Honduran mahogany body w/ 1/8" brazilian cherry laminate, 1/4" flame maple drop top and natural binding matching flame maple headplate w/ natural binding, and Ebony Fretboard w/ reverse head stock and reverse mop sharkfins heres the pics: Full neck shot Neck shot, wet down Fret Board Mahogany body blank Flame maple top also there is a probelm i have run into, theres a knot/void in the head stock and i dont know how to fix it, Heres a close up pic
  4. i used stewmacs water based finish for my first paint job. it looked fine to me, no problems and it seemed really easy to apply. no fog and, although it was soft for about 3 months, now its pretty hard. maybe im just lucky?
  5. the problem is the rubber tire, i did what you said and it still didnt fix it. its only on the top wheel. is it possable that the tire can get streched and loose? the bottom tire seems alit stiffer compared to the top one.
  6. i got this sweet 14" rigid bandsaw for my bday in september. it worked fine until yesterday, i was cutting a 1 inch peice of mahogany and the rubber band that the blade sits on stated comeing off the track. i hope that makes any sense, i tried adjusting the blade alignment as per the manual but after that it just kept jumping off.
  7. my thinking is that most "shreding" occurs 12th fret and up most of the time, so you would then want wider frets up there to make it easyer to fit your fingers in. btw caprison are shred oriented guitars, and they have a 24.75 scale so i dont see why you couldnt make one like that. i play alot of heavy metal and instrumental stuff (jason becker, yngwie malmsteen, paul gilbert), so i guess i shred, but, i dont like some things that most people associate with shred guitars like these "thin" necks. i dont think how thick your neck is has anything to do with shredding, as i like thick necks (the neck i made is just under 3/4"). sorry about my thin shred neck rant, i just hate how people associate shredder guitars with thin necks.
  8. hmm i like this marquetry thing...how did you do that? any progress pix?
  9. i love you too....wait your not my girlfriend
  10. put the rubber feet back on, you can reset it by doing: 1. unplug the powersupply. 2. hold the foot switch down(the button), and replug the power in. 3. a light should start flashing, rock the pedal forward then back. 4. push the button again. that shoudl set it back to zero. if i dont make any sense refer to the digitach site for the manual, thats where i got it.
  11. ive actually already started mine. its a soloist style gutiar.
  12. That's exactly where you'll find a problem. No amateur guy here will agree to that. Nobody's got money to throw out the window if they screw up a neck 4 times. Most likely you'll be asked for the funds before the build starts anyway to buy the wood and hardware for the project. We've seen our fair share of angry customers publicly yelling at amateur builders who couldn't get the work properly done and on time before. Do a search on this forum. You're better off looking elsewhere for a pro builder if that's what you expect to get for quality. i would do that if i screwed up someones paid for guitar, its the right thing to do. but, i would never do a job that i wasnt familiar with and confident that i could finish it for them.
  13. Out of curiosity why the emphasis on set neck? Peace,Rich i just figured he wanted a gutiar that is pretty much a les paul but didnt look like one, and i thought that if hes going for that, a set neck would probably get him closer to it than a neck thru. it just seems if he wants les paul sound go with les paul type construciton/hardware. as a note all iv built is neck thrus and bolts ons so i guess i have no experece with that.
  14. well if you swap the neckthru for a set neck youd probably be closer. why are you having problems gettin a good fit between teh tennon/pocket?
  15. wood binding. for future referance tho, do you apply ca one section at a time, or just do the whole shebang in one go?
  16. ive read that most of you use ca to attach binding, wood and plastic types. from what i have seen you tape the binding to the fingerboard and then wick in glue where the tape isnt, correct? so i guess my main Q. is how thin does my ca need to be? the kind i have is thicker than water, maybe more like milk or half and half. if its too thick could i thin it down with acetone? or is that a bad idea
  17. seems to me that there are 3 main types of oils for necks: tung oil, tru oil, and danish oil. i want to use it on my neck thru so i want the one with the most protection from the elements, as far as oil goes. i like what ever kind of oil carvin uses, that neck felt nice. also ive heard of waxing the neck after oiling, what wax do you use? if someone could point me twards a tutorial it would be cool.
  18. there is no "radius" on the neck. the neck has a profile, the fretboard has the radius.
  19. sweet, also my guitar amp has two "line outs" one ses "recording compesated" and then other ses "direct." could theses be of any use to me for recording?
  20. im strapping down and getting ready to lay down some tracks for my bands cd. im looking for this demo to sound at least as good (or bad) as metallicas first album. i managed to get a good guitar sound once, about a year ago, but i forgot what i did and i cant do it again. i need help, tips on EQ the amps, mic placement, Eq the mixer and where to put the guitars in the mix. also any tips for recording other stuff, i.e. bass, drums, vox would be nice too. im using (2) sm57s, a behringer 12 ch mixer, and Cakewalk HS2002. we also have a larger selection of mics that i can barrow from my guitarists dad. thanks in advance rob.
  21. i played it and it seemed fine, but my question is will it last in the long term? i checked the jemsite but they seem a bit biased to the original edge/edge pros. have any of you had prolonged exp. with one of these trems?
  22. when i made the jump to a "band volume"' amp, i went for a Marshall JCM900. some guy i knew was selling it for $500 new tubes and such. the i bought an ampeg 4x12 for $200 or so.
  23. what type of fin. is that? what colors/method did you use on the lp? very nice on both.
