  1. thanks kenny. i used expanded polystyrene for the form fitting. the tutorial linked a few posts up is about all you're going to need really. there are some pics missing from the start, but theres some good ones at the back too. and the descriptions are easy to follow
  2. mississippi queen and nailbomb. gorgeous sounding. can get some really smooth almost acousticy sounds from the neck with the volume and tone turned down. yummy
  3. i made a case for it. its a nice snug fit. the handle could do to be a little more towards the middle but cant be helped now - its riveted on. made a little plate to go on the front too with my logo and the guitar name and number. ps - there isnt a massive dip in it like the third thumbnail seems to show. camera trickery
  4. if you have some left over maple left why not line both sides of the pocket with it and make a feature out of it. to me that would be better than having one side looking different from the other. great looking neck by the way
  5. here is a diagram. if you just want a seperate switch rather then a push/pull pot then its exactly the same only the switch is seperate obviously
  6. like this obviously do the one in the box in the bottom left corner
  7. have you tried this one? seymour duncan diagram
  8. were they passive or active emgs? and if they were active have you replaced all the pots too?
  9. i agree about it looking better (to my eyes) before the roundover but its still cooler than a penguin in sunglasses
  10. how heavy is that body! must be a back breaker! hehe. and when i used wenge the dust made my nose bleed, so i wouldnt be smelling it quite so much if i were you
  11. thanks frog. yeah the orange isnt so glaring as it is in the pics. bassisgreat - it feels really nice to play, my best by a long way. and i love the sounds it makes too, a real versatile range
  12. thanks everyone bassisgreat - heres a pic of the inlay. im a bit disappointed with it as it was better than this but i had to redo some of it you can also see the heavy shaping of the fretboard edge in this pic. i read and saw a pic of a tyler guitar and it sounded good so thats how i do it. prostheta - its just a good few coats of danish oil. it shines up really well someone somewhere down the line wanted to know how much it weighed when it was finished - according to my bathroom scales its about 8.5 - 9 pounds
  13. thanks! the real colour of it is somewhere between the full pic and the thumbnails. i love the way the bridge pup came out, and it sounds gorgeous too. roll the tone and volume off and theres an almost acoustic sound to it. yum
  14. AF DESIREE My first real Desiree guitar finally finished. BODY - South American Mahogany/Flamed Maple NECK - Wenge FRETBOARD - Wenge w/rosewood binding and stainless steel frets PICKUPS - Bare Knuckle Mississippi Queen (neck), Bare Knuckle Nailbomb (bridge) HARDWARE - Gotoh 510 tuners, Goth hardtail Pic 1 Pic 2 Pic 3 Pic 4 Pic 5 Pic 6 Pic 7
  15. well im waiting till i get the bridge pup before taking anymore pics. and its neither - something im making but hoping to sell when its done
  16. well teh quote for the engraved covers was so high just for transfering the drawings to dxf format so i downloaded an autocad program and learnt how to do it and did it myself. so im still waiting for the bridge pup but got the neck one this morning and wired it in. heres a sneaky peak
  17. im sure i read somewhere once about adding dye to rustins plastic coating. just try it with a little bit on some scrap and see which you like best
  18. id never used any kind of autocad thing before and i downloaded progecad and its really easy to use. and free! theres some limitations on the free version but nothing thats stopped me getting my designs down heres a link to download it - progecad download
  19. theres this place - carbonology - they do actual rods, but its the same thing. very reasonable prices too
  20. im waiting for a quote on engraved pickups covers (and then wait till i can afford to buy the pickups) and then i can get this one finished finally. heres some pics
  21. try artist masking fluid. so long as you spray thin colour coats and rub the masking fluid off before the paints totally cured that would work i should think
  22. the only problem i can see if you dont glue it down is the bend not fitting properly. if you can get it right tho go for it. only one way to find out
  23. iv done it twice - tho glueing it on as opposed to screws. its a bit of a pain to bend it to shape but not so bad. it makes no difference to tone as far as i can tell. if the posts are too short you can always just inset them so the bushings are the same height as the plastic
