  1. I call it the "8020 Guitar" due to the piece of aluminum in the neck which comes from a company called 8020. The USB port is the charging port.
  2. This started as a Wam/Bam no frills project for a leave at work guitar, and to use cheap parts.
  3. So at work I've found quite of a few people play guitar. We use a product called 8020 aluminum for projects so I got an idea to build a simple no frills guitar with a built in amp to leave at work. Well at first the plan was to make it quick and dirty, no paint and just a rectangle, well of course I kept adding to it. Wood, mahogany pulled from a dumpster, 1/4" aluminum, Grovers, Cheep pickups. and a $20 battery guitar amp. I call it the "8020 Guitar" I used a (3W Amp. Battery Powered D5F4) . I'm thinking of upgrading the amp to a 20W with a better speaker. I angled the frets to match the natural angle of my hand at higher frets which I find it easer to play. Also I been using on all of my guitars a "first fret" at the top of the speaking length rather than the nut, this makes it very easy to get the lowest action.
  4. I seem to get most of my ideas in dreams. I built a few of them but I still have a few I haven't built. One I had was an upholstered guitar maybe a silk fabric, Ya I know it sounds crazy but, if done right I think it could be cool!
  5. When you're building a Guitar and you make an error, such as a cut that went wrong, dropping it causing dents, paint defects, etc. Do you leave them or fix them even if they take quite a few hours to fix? Like I dropped my latest build last week after 4 coats of lacquer and dented the wood, I'm calling it antiquing
  6. Tell me about it, the one I'm working on now I started 5 years ago.
  7. My brother had the Band-Saw in his garage and backed into it, broke the legs and table. I wanted to keep it but my shop is packed so I took some photos of it and cut it up. Sad.
  8. This one I made wen I was 17 Dad's Plywood Band-Saw with the legs removed.
  9. Very nice. I'm impressed when I see people make something nice without all the fancy tools.
  10. The one on the left I did and I used it for years. The one in the middle I never finished and sold as/is on eBay
  11. Nice, did you finish them? Here's a photo of my dad's shop when I was 17. The band-saw was made out of plywood. you can see 3 guitars I was building.
  12. I meant to say "width" Here's a rough idea of what I was thinking.
  13. try https://customrubontransfers.com/
  14. I see a lot of people will share their ideas but I feel some people hold back thinking "it's my idea" if shown that some will copy it. Are you hesitant to show your designs thinking someone will steal it?
  15. My first thought is you should adjust the letters to all be the same with. I worked a quite a few hours trying to come up with a LOGO, I thought it has to be good enough so I don't need to change it later. I don't love the one I came up with but I felt I spent enough time on it.
  16. At 12 my older brother played guitar and I wanted one. My farther had a wood-shop with all home made machines. A shaper, Band-saw, Table-saw, Spindle-saw, etc. I figured I could make my own and after three attempts at 14 back in 1972 I made a somewhat playable guitar. I made it out of Mahogany that was pulled from Yachts that were donated to the Navy during WW2 and used Gibson parts. I had a "Gibson Vibrola tailpiece" which I hated due to all strings going out of tune if a string broke.
  17. I'm sorry for going off topic "Cnc vs. Handmade" I've made a few guitars basically with a bandsaw, table saw, drill press, wood-rasp and recently with a router and milling machine. and last year I was amazed when I met someone who makes beautiful guitars with a Jig-Saw and basically all hand tools. I guess it's the end results that counts the most.
  18. Playing the same song is not copying the song. Copying the song is when you play it so it sounds like the original, Playing a song with different instruments say like a piano, guitar, violins ,voice, etc. than the original is making it your own.
  19. This reminds me of a Star Trek episode where a child uses a computer to build his vision of a sculpture he's thinking of. Let's face it, you could be the best woodworker in the world but, if you don't have the vision of the finished item? what do you have? Not to upset builders but, I remember 40 years ago when I met a person who showed me a great flawless made guitar he made and it was a copy of a LesPaul. I said "wow you do great work" but I thought to myself " If you are that good at making a guitar, also make your own design. I find it the same with musicians, They can play or sing very well but only other peoples music. If you make copies of other peoples guitars, please take this as an inspiration to be more creative and build your own creations. You can do it!
