  1. It's a little belated, but thank you for the tutorial. I adapted your methods in finishing my Strat copy. Minwax stuff is extremely hard to come by and very expensive here, so I looked for a substitute. I used ACE Hardware's Poly-Finish (which was less than half the price of the MinWax Polycrilic). I imagine it *looks* like the MinWax: milky white color. I mixed that with local green food color. I've forgotten the proportions, though. I did lay about six coatings, though, which was much more than I had planned. I couldn't help it. After applying sanding sealer and clear lacquer: It's been four months since I finished the paint job. So far so good.
  2. Can those Krylon glow-in-the-dark spray cans be used? I'm thinking about using them for a strat-type body.
  3. Hmm... I was planning on using that paint for a strat body. Thanks for the heads up.
  4. i screwed the veneer on my saga kit some months back. i was using 280 and 400 grit paper. i sanded through some parts. i got disgusted with both the body and myself. so i just re-applied sealer and painted the damn thing black. i'm still working on it right now. i wasn't expecting the kit with sanding sealer already applied. so, yeah, it would be a good idea to write SAGA about this.
  5. also called vinyl letter transfer sets. they ought to be available in most office supply stores. i use them. just don't spray the first clear coats too thick. the letters might float. that happened to me too.

    Crazy train

I could never decide for myself who was the best among Randy, Jake and Zakk. So I just say to myself they're all incredible players and comparing them is a waste of time because they have different approaches to their music and playing anyway.
  7. I think "inconsistent" would be a better ajective when it comes to quality of Korean-made guitars. I've seen some real good ones around here. That ought to go for China as well. I would have bought a Korean copy of the Musicman Axis if I had the money at the time.
  8. somewhere between novice and hobbyist. i chose the former. i ought to cross that line when i finally put back that guitar of mine together in the next few weeks.
  9. most jacksons i've seen on ebay have 2 1/4" neck pockets. i think it'll fit. have you asked the seller's opinion?
  10. For the most part, I only use the 23rd and 24th frets when I get too lazy to bend the string from the 22nd fret. those extra frets never suited my own playing, i guess. and i do love using the neck pickup on 22-fret guitars.
  11. I don't suppose installing SC-sized humbuckers and making things easier is an option?
  12. Has the auction ended already? Experienced EBayers usually bid near the end of an auction. If it hasn't ended, there's a good chance you'll lose, anyway. I almost won an auction for a Hamer guitar in EBay once. I kept sending emails to the seller but he didn't reply, but I liked the guitar so much I bid anyway. Stupid me. And then this seller replied a few hours before the auction ended, informing me the s/h was more expensive than the guitar itself. I couldn't afford it, and I thank God I lost the auction literally seconds before it ended.
  13. I've only seen their acoustics. They're cheap, but they look well made. I should test-play one next time.
  14. Oh, those are gonna cost you. Based on different testimonies, our customs here is inconsistent at best. Some huge packages get through, while some small ones, even DVD's get slapped with huge taxes. Good luck with yours. You weren't able to find even half of those stuff locally?
  15. Based on looks alone, Strats have always been more suited to my taste.
  16. It depends on your playing style, I suppose. Personally, playing it like a regular 6-string wouldn't be so simple. For starters, the neck is a lot wider. The feel would be much different. More importantly, I usually use my thumb to finger the low E string when playing chords/rhythm guitar (e.g. D/F# chord). I don't think I can do those stuff with a 7-string, at least not as easily as I do it today.
  17. I have a Digitech RP-100 here. Lot's of good sounds. I should be able to do some direct recording later. That cabinet simulation should come in handy. However, I don't like some of the distortions/amp models in the unit. And I'm not sure whether my problem is somewhere in the rest of my setup or in the unit itself, but I sometimes get feedback (the bad type) and white noise with high-gain patches.
  18. the mt-2 metal zone is the first pedal i ever owned. i swore by it, until my musical preferences changed. still, i use it every now and then. it's still good for two or three distortion sounds for me. i have no complaints with it, except for the noise that comes with the huge compressed distortion. i have been considering to get a ds-1 myself. lots of used pedals are floating around here locally. no way i'm buying a new one since boss pedals are soooo expensive here.
  19. Do you really need to sell your Epiphone Strat? If I were in your place, I'd keep it as much as possible.
  20. I think those are rates for Air or Express Mail? Weight and dimensions of a guitar is really S&H unfriendly. And then you'll have to prepare for taxes in case customs require them.
  21. Hmmm... I'm planning on getting one later on. Hopefully, there'll still be some of those left by then. Thanks, Brian.
  22. I see. Strange. Just about all of those are available here. Way overpriced, though. The other day I stumbled into someone's site. He was REALLY bashing Musician's Friend. Quite funny. Maybe you're better off not ordering from them?
  23. Can you ship to the Philippines?
  24. Hmmm. All this while I thought you have it easier down there in Australia. I myself am going to do the same thing in the next few days (I'm from the Philippines). So far, EBay is the best choice I have. What parts do you need, by the way? Maybe the links from this site can help you.
