  1. im not an expert with emgs so you may want to look here but some other things you may want to check are; are you using 25k pots emg's require these as opposed to 250k or 500k pots look for short circuits, if your guitar is shielded make sure that the shield isnt touching anything aboart from ground check for other mistakes you seem to be focusing on the pot is it possible you have wired the output to the wrong lug (ie hot and ground are the wrong way around on the jack) check you have folowed al these steps more often than not its one of those "doh!" moments and at the end of the day theres always tech support tech@emgpickups.com but im sure there are some guys in this forum who can help fix this problem
  2. im not sure i fully understand what your trying to do. are you planning to glue and bolt the neck on? these may help bolt on guitars dont have to use a plate i remember reading a post about someone thinking of a similar idea on this forum so you may want to do a search
  3. the only guitars i know of that feature a solid rosewood neck are PRS Mcarty Rosewood PRS Modern Eagle PRS 513 but im sure various ither people have done it, i cant realy comment on rosewood necks as iv never played one but good luck with the project and welcome to the forum
  4. http://emginc.com/displayproducts.asp?sect...=7&catalogid=46 under the description you should see clean(bridge) and dirty(bridge) they are links to the sound bytes
  5. my advice would be to listen to sound bytes both seymour duncan and kinman have them i dont think the sound bytes for kinman are on his site but on a reviewers. if you are a fan of the fender tone i would strongly recomend the kinmans, as for the fender scn p/u's personaly i dont like them that much and i think i read somewehre they need 1meg pots or at least volumes. the duncans will definatly sound different but if your after versatility they offer a wide range so you might want to combine one of the stacked/dual rails humbuckers that are ment to sound like humbuckers with one that are ment to sound like single coils however the "inbetween positions" may not sound so good or they may sound quite good this isnt something iv tried so i cant comment there
  6. Mickguard do you mean 3 strap buttons as in one on the upper horn and two on the rear of the guitar? if so this i belive is done so the guitar can be stood if needed when there isnt a stand availble and not fall over so easily, tom anderson and dan armstrong guitars feature this. imagine using the lower strap button. but recently iv made a few mistakes so i may well be wrong but acording to this im not (just use the find function in your browser and search "two")
  7. i completly agree that string grounding should be done however i was just trying to make a point "yes it IS necessary (except in some rare occasions, determined by the pickup manufacturers specifications, eg: EMG). Les Pauls are all grounded." you should ground your srings but it is not necessary
  8. i stand correted on the les paul front, but for arguments sake i took of the back plate of my chepo encore and diconnected the string ground and it still works
  9. although string grounding is benifitial it is not a nesesaty, the strings on a les paul are not grounded are they?
  10. looks great and like the neck through addition, but as previously mentioned dont like the fact i dosent have 24 frets and that its a hardtail (without pezio) also i dont like the back angled head stock which suggest it wont have locking tunners can anyone tell if the binding it plastic or maple? imho maple is way better for binding, it looks better and when using it on the neck you dont have to cut the tangs off
  11. nice guitar, but of course its still bone so it cant be string grounded
  12. pots are pots, they only differ in value (reistance not £££ or $$$) and tapper (the rate at which resistance increase when you turn the pot) there is also quality but i wont really say much apart from this and this volume pots work buy the sending signal to ground and tone works by bleeding treble although this is much better
  13. if the bridge is made of bone it cannot be grounded as bone does not conduct electrisity. ill guess that your talking about an acoustic guitar which has a pezio pickup, to my knowledge at least these are not subseptible to rf interference as they operate on presure and virbrations rather than electromagnetic feilds
  14. when you say floater i presume you mean your floating trem. first off check the action at the saddle, raising it should probably fix it. also i would advise to check the relief of the neck. to do this place a capo of the first fret then using your right hand hold the low e string down at the last fret. now your string is a straight line by which you can make measurements! take a business card it should just be able to to fit under the string at the seventh fret this should be a fairly tight fit but not so tight the string has to be pushed upwards. depending if there is too much back bow or too little adjust your truss rod acoringly.
  15. if you can ground your bridge then yes by all means do so, hum (rf intferecne) can get into your guitar by other means than just the pick-ups guitar nuts has a very interesting article on sheilding here but there was another actilce i couldnt find the jist of it was the strings ground you not the other way round. when you are not grounding your body attractes rf interfernce but when you are grounded it does the opposite, i think thats how it went but dont take my word as the all knowing truth it may still be on the site have a look for it.
  16. back to the point of the trem-setter, you say bends feel effortless this is probably due to the bridge you currently have. a full floating bridge (floyd or not) will usualy sag ie move towards the nut like when you push down on the wammy bar. however as the bridge is moving it means your supper smooth bends will take a while to reach the pitch you are trying to bend to. so yes bends may be harder but they will reach the desired pitch quicker so you dont have to bend as much. im sure its something you could get used to plus the tremsetter reqires very little modification and is completly reversable. one final note when installing the tremsetter you may have to trinker with it for a while to make sure the spring that keeps your bridge returning to the "zero angle" is set up correctly
  17. thanks for the info, you learn something new everyday
  18. yeh i know to figue is caused by rot but how is it then hardened?
  19. right n00b question comming up, what do you mean by hardening wood? do you mean like stabilizing it by drying it out?
  20. i know i dont post regularly on this thread as i am doing my G.C.S.E's at the mo' unfortunatly the project will be firther held up due the following Hi George, Thank you for your E-mail and making choice of our titanium saddles on your guitar. Your interest of our products is greatly appreciated . The truss rod you found at our site is just a trial product and there are much need to be improved in strength. DeTemple are not testing them yet. We are supplying some reinforcements to the guitar manufacturers like as Ibanez. Sometime we produce some single action truss rods by request from our clients. We have some distributors in foreign country but unfortunately they carry only saddles. If you want to purchase the reinforcements or truss rod from us, please let us know the size (length) of them. Once again - thank you for your interest in our products. Best Regards, Hiroshi Masuda KTS Musical Products Inc. looks like i'll just have to sit and wait for a bit longer
  21. woah didnt notice that, for that money i'd stick with good old copper tape easier quicker and a heck of a lot cheaper
  22. i think verhoevenc may have a point, magnetic paint would shield against magnetic interference rather than rf interference, it probably would have a shielding afect against rf but what i think guitarnuts is trying to say is that iron should be used to shield magnetic components eg transformers as iron is magnetic wheras copper sheilding would be better for rf shielding. can't go wrong with this
  23. i second the knife edges, 1)how long have you had the trem 2)do you use it frequently and/or vigerously 2)is your trem an actual floyd rose or a licenced floyd rose if the answers are yes yes and licenced ill bet its the knife edges licenced floyd roses are often made of bras or steel the actual floyd roses are made from hardened still which does not prevent this but prolongs the time the knife edges will stay in tact. another possibily is that the studs have come loose, this can happen more easily in basswood guitars as it is quite a sot wood. my advice would be to take the strings off, remove the springs and examine the trem for any faults
