  1. It's been done before. Use a thin strip of veneer, dyed the color you need. I wonder why more manufacturers don't route the neck pocked oversize, and "bind" the sides with veneer. It'd definitely make the neck pocket more classy
  2. Dead sexy indeed! What kind of Dimarzio's? that looks real sharp.
  3. I'm voting C, regardless of BlackMachine's or Pro's scary boogymen I am not a fan of dotsallovertheplace inlays. It's a nice sharp build, keep it clean looking.
  4. Will both covers be stamped with U-235? I'm thinking that, if it wasn't your plan originally, having the bridge pickup cover stamped like you did and the neck just distressed with no stamping would look good. You could knock out more of the cover since you don't need to reserve space for the branding. Looking great, Doug!
  5. Because it's such a popular design (I admit I'm drafting my own at this moment ) it shouldn't be hard at all to find a 7-string design. The Korn guitars are 7-strings, I believe, as is Steve Vai's Universe.
  6. 80 hours a week?! Business can be good, and business can be GOOD, but I don't see myself working 80 hours no matter how good it is. Cheers to you for that, man! It's a nice body shape, I would only maybe work the upper "violin cut" to flow better, like the bottom does. And the headstock better be sharp enough to match the body!
  7. You've done amazing things with that Mustang.... thing, as you call it. It's definitely more pleasing to look at than any other Mustang I've seen! Not too keen on the metal 2112 strip on the baritone, looks like it should be a sustainer of some kind, from farther away. But that's neither here nor there.
  8. Nice inlay! And I'm sure you could hollow the body out for even more weight reduction if you wanted to. I would be tempted to make everything one big cavity except for the electronics. I really wish I could get some wenge to work with, because that neck will have some amazing grain when it's all carved. The body shape is a little elongated for me, but it should work well. Is the top carve going to have a hard edge, or will it be a more graduated transition? Either way could work to your advantage!
  9. Hey Allan, what Pro was getting at is that the MTM is just an Ibanez RG body with special modifications, mostly aesthetic. You really should have no trouble tracking down the plans you need, it's a very common shape. Good luck, and of course make sure to put some pictures up when you get around to building it!
  10. I'm a bit shocked myself, looking back on it. Clearly there was some reason in the back of my mind that prompted me to ask, but I cannot for the life of me remember what it was.... Anyways, yeah. I'm just going to go to bed and forget about embarrassing myself Thanks John haha
  11. Couldn't have been wittier if I tried, Pro X2N in the neck pos, and EMG 81 with a hardwired Afterburner in the bridge \m/ POWERRR
  12. Very nice! Got some specs for us? So the hardware is all Hipshot, but what are those pickups?
  13. Now, in building a guitar out of 2x4's, would you run them through a jointer/planer to get them flat? I'm assuming that'd be the easiest way. I might use it for a prototype body for the next masterpiece...
  14. Very nice! The binding is a nice touch, though like Maiden said... A few thoughts: -Have you thought about break angle over the bridge? I felt that with my Explorer, having the ferrules so far away from the bridge, I didn't get the "tight" feel of the strings like I liked. I know I started this topic before, and it's all personal feel, but still -Why all black hardware and chrome knobs? -I'm curious about those pickup rings as well. Really sharp! -What's the total weight on this one? -Love to hear some sound clips!
  15. Came out really nicely! Good color, and I like the matte pickguard, it's a nice touch. If I may, though. What makes this different from a regular Strat, save a hardware/pickup change?
  16. I was referencing this picture, those two dark spots behind the bridge. Ferrules will look good!
  17. Nice carve! Makes the back look a bit..... flat though. Are those tiny holes I see in the earlier pic where a tailpiece would be?
  18. As if you needed further votes, the right one too
  19. Hey, if it works, right? You came up with a nice, enviable satin sheen! I myself have never heard of either the wax or oil, so I'm going to leave the laughter up to someone who knows what they're talking about.
  20. WOAH! OK, you have my attention, Doug. I would love to see any of the finished work, so I'll be keeping my eye on this. Fancy work! And Neil poses some good questions, I'd like to hear the answers as well.
  21. Then I guess your mind is made up, hahaha. I definitely say go for it (my previous post was heavily laced with sarcasm ), you've got just as much a shot as the other guys!
  22. I'm assuming he'll use a roundnose router bit, if I could jump to conclusions SS fretwire was very easy to work with, I found, and nice and smooth! SS dots need more care in grinding them down to shape.
  23. That IS some monstrous pickup in there. I really like how this is coming out, the clarity of the woods is fantastic! Why the huge offcut of fretboard at the end, though?
