  1. Just a thought... ... When I took my body blank to be planed to size, the bloke said that "it might be a bit short to be passed through the planer properly". Could the problem be that the blank is too short to be in contact with enough rollers to keep it level. If the wood is moving along the convayor and the back drops off a roller this might cause the front to lift and come in contact with the cutters, shaving a bit off. Would it be possible to attach the blank to a longer bit of wood and then pass it through? At this point I think it's wise to point out that my only experience with planers is taking my blank to be planed, so I could be totally off the mark. Might be worth a look though.
  2. He's trying to find a picture of a goat being slapped with a fish
  3. I'm not sure about the Floyd Rose that Gotoh do but I've bought a set of Gotoh hardware (TOM bridge, Tail Piece, Tuners, Knobs, Jack socket plate and Neck plate) and I'm more than happy. The quality seems very good and I'm very happy with what I got for the price.
  4. I think the planer only takes off one side. You then flip the wood over and pass it through again and take some off the other side (this helps to stop the wood from warping). I've got a jointer, it's called Tom and sits in the workshop making joints all day long . Actually, I've got no idea about the jointer, but I want one.
  5. Eddie, There's not much that can be said other than I'm very sorry for your loss. Last year my girlfriend lost her little sister to cancer and a while back I also came very close to losing my brother. It's hard on the ones left behind, my thoughts are with you. If there is anything that I can do for either you or the tribute guitar, get in touch .
  6. Kaj - pronounced Ki (or Kai) will have the women dribbling at both ends.
  7. No wonder you came over to the dark side from the Jackson forum. Where's the Jacksons? Welcome to the forum dude!
  8. Just looked at your original post again. As you've only got the body and not the neck just ignore me. I'm off to hang my head in shame
  9. That is BRILLIANT . You must be quite short to fit in that cockpit though . I'm in awe of your tallent, I want to be just like you when I grow up
  10. Use the neck and hardware (bridge/machine heads) off the dodgy plywood guitar and make your own body. You should be able to make a body and buy pickups for under 300 quid. Just an idea anyway. Good luck geezer.
  11. My girlfriend (being fantastic) was shopping for my christmas prezzie when she came across a toy plane. The type with the elastic band that has to be wound up to make the propeller spin. Anyway, to wind the elastic band there is a little handheld, battery powered winder with a counter on it. First thing she thought was "What a good pickup winder that would make, **** *** Kaj for talking about guitars too much, look what you've done to me" She bought it regardless and it cost about 4GBP (told you she's fantastic), got a free plane with it too. Anyway, just thought I'd let you know incase anyone is after a winder.
  12. Looking nice. Not too keen on the headstock though Gonna chop it down a little?
  13. What was the sanding disk like to use? I've just borrowed one and I'm still umming and arring about whether to use it. I'm thinking about using it to put a curve on the top. Very nice job by the way. That wood is gorgeous.
  14. Kickz: 2d plans are probably better than 3d because when it comes to cutting the wood (if you've printed the plans 1:1 scale) you can just cut the paper out, glue it to the top of your wood and cut round it (well thats what I do, far less chance of screwing it up that way). The usual offer I make stands: If you're in the UK, I'll print a couple of copies of the plans off 1:1 and put them in the post. It's better han doing the work I'm paid for, atleast I get a thank you. I'm currently doing my first guitar (a double cutaway Les Paul, with a PRS style headstock) and it really isn't that hard to do the body. As for the finish, I'd decide after the body is made.
  15. Happy New Year my pedigree chums! Over the festive period while I was very very drunk, I made the mistake of agreeing to make an acrylic warlock body for my brother (using all the bits of his p-bass ripoff for pickups, neck etc) Anyway, the headstock is a typical fender type that would just look out of place, so can I chop it off and replace it with a more suitable one? Can't see a problem with this but thought I would ask. Now here's the crux of the problem - can I replace it with an acrylic headstock? (my brother has very little in the way of taste and that's what he wants). I'd say that if the headstock isn't too long it should be possible, but I'd like second opinions before I go chopping around my brothers guitar. Cheers guys.
  16. Is it worth using a drop of glue? (I've got all this to come soon)
  17. If the headstock is not joined at the top, there might be a problem as all the force will be acting down and to the side. If this is the case try not to angle the tuners too much on the headstock as the greater the angle to more torque will be transfered to the wood (i.e. get the tuners as close to a straight line as possible so that the force created by the strings is compressive rather than applying a bending force). There will be a weakpint at the bottom of the notch (a massive point of stress concentration) so try to finish that with with a circular section. Althernatively use carbon fibre or recess a steel sheet in the back to add strength. Nothing is impossible, we've all just got to think about it for long enough.
  18. An object of beauty. I think it's amazing. Might build one of them for my second project
  19. ewwww, I hope you wahed your hands. Sounds like one of Wes' pervertions
  20. Tony McFee. Guitarist out of the Groundhogs. Went to see them (original lineup reformed for about 4 gigs) earlier in the year. Absolutely top bloke, even dedicated a song for my old mans birthday. He might not Rory Gallagher but the mans got the blues. If any of you get chance to catch any of his acoustic stuff it's well worth the night out.
  21. Check out the couple in the classified thread that I posted a few weeks back. I'm having ryeisnotcool2's ones, but there was a couple of other people. http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...?showtopic=3811
