  1. I'm not one to take a spokeshave reccomendation, I've only used the one I just bought lol. It's a veritas low angle one if you're curious. The fretboard is cocobolo.
  2. Well, they do make one, cause I'm lookin' at one right now, it's out of the guitar I'm partin' out for my build. It's from a Washburn HM-80. So you can find them, you just gotta look hard, I was plannin' on sellin' the neck and body to a friend of mine to paint, cause he just wants to do it for fun. I'll ask him if he would be happy with just the body and if he is I'll sell ya the neck, if you want that is.
  3. Very nice, looks awesome. I also agree that you should paint the headstock black too.
  4. Nice, that looks awesome. How's it play?
  5. I'd say if there's one guitar to keep, it would be your first, I know I won't sell mine when I finish it, not that I would feel good selling it cause it's not quite up to snuff lol
  6. That's interesting jer. I have the colt as well, had it for probably half a year or more, I'm very happy with it.
  7. Make it as perfect as you possibly can. Just cause you can get away with 1/64 off doesn't mean you should try. If your ruler can't measure accurately enough, get a new one, shouldn't be terribly expensive and it will save you the headache of screwin' up a fretboard.
  8. That's all really cool, but I like the inlaying the best, that's really good
  9. Don't forget to take off all the electronics first. I know it's obvious, but I've seen people do stupider things, hehe and it's red strats for me, can't stand'em
  10. I just some of those, wow, I think he's high no drunk, judging by the way he's talking. I love how he doesn't have the board clamped at all, so he has to hold it with one hand while trying to use the smoothing plane. Oh well....... Oh, and he's supposed to be a master carpenter with over 20 years experience? One more edit lol Prostheta, I take it you're a Lovecraft fan?
  11. Nice, looks like a good, tight fit. Gettin' impatient waitin' for other people's equipment is different lol
  12. When I drew the headstock on I used the tuners as a guide and checked out the string pull, it should clear fine, I'm gonna check it again before I cut it just to make sure. Thanks for the concern
  13. With the plane, if you angle it, like don't go straight on but turn it a little, it makes them work a lot easier. And take as little as you can off. But I'm not a pro or anything, I just got it workin' well today lol. The pictures on the left of this article should help, the article's good too. http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/article/0,,365995,00.html
  14. I sharpened my dad's old plane that he never uses and used it to plane my guitar flat today. The difference of the plane with a sharp blade (and a little practice) is phenominal, but now I want some planes more, gotta start hittin' up garage sales.
  15. It's lookin' good. That being said, getting impatient is a bad thing in guitar building, don't try and rush anything, belt sanders are nice to have though lol.
  16. Ok, I finally got to work again, class was canceled last week, so I didn't get to do anything major then, but I had the wings glued on. So, this week I cut off that big chunk of wood at the bottom of it, so it's the basic shape it's supposed to be I also worked on shaping the heel (rather hard to do with the wings glued on, hehe) and then went over the whole neck with a cabinet scraper, it's lookin' and feelin' really good to me. I'm still gonna have to shape the heel a little more, bring it back a little, but it's goin' well overall Heel mostly shaped http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z120/an...=IMG_0171_2.jpg whole neck after scraping http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z120/an...=IMG_0172_2.jpg
  17. I don't know, but maybe you could mix some dye into the grain filler to turn it black?
  18. I like the scallops too, but I have to agree, they could extend up the horn some and taper off instead of just ending.
  19. Yeah it does look a little bigger, and backwards looks great though, I really like the gold hardware on it.
  20. Looks awesome, any chance you could take a picture of the whole thing, front and back? Just curious to see how it all looks together.
  21. well, I would say it's horrible and you need to send it to me, hehe. Looks like a fine top to me, but if you don't like the grain, I personally love it, I'd say find another one, if you aren't short on cash that is.
  22. Ok. Like I said, both the enclosures look awesome. It makes me want to build my own cab and I do have some speakers...... anyway, what do you think of the TT? I got one and love it.
  23. Another suggestion would be that there might be someone on here that would be willin' to make you a blank with a maple top, for an extra fee besides the price of wood. There you would be guaranteed to get good wood and a well made blank, now, I don't know if anyone will actually do that, but it's certainly worth puttin' up a post in the stuff wanted section.
