  1. i know what make and model it is, i just cant find info anywhere. i search on ebay and get a few people on personal web pages talking about "i got my first proper guitar, a tatra classic, when i was 17" (amusinglly enough i found melvin hiscocks webpage like this yesterday lol) i really cant be bothered to take it to some acoustic guitar shop and ask their opinion lol looking around ive realised that part of the problem with me searching on the net is that theres a model of classic carcalled a tatra lol
  2. i understand a fair bit about building solid state amps however i really need to find some decent material on building tube amps. infact i need to find some decent material explaining all about vacuum tubes so if anybody can point me in the right direction i would be most gratefull lol
  3. Ok people baiscally i have my mums old acoustic guitar and as the title of the topic suggests id like to get some information about it. its a 6 string folk style guitar. insidethe sound hole itsgo a logo that reads Tatra Classic Foreign and on the head stock its got a smallish black logo that reads Tatra Foreign my mum bought it somewhere between 1970 to 1971 if thats any help its got very nice grain patterns over the front back and sides of the body, i have no idea what woods they are tho its all completelly original, tuners etc. its quite well used and has quite a few scratches and dents over it. the tuners are a bit worn out and slightlly stiff but otherwise ok. everything else is fine, no structural problems, bridge is fine. if anybody knows where i could find info or would be able to tell me anything from what ive told you then id be really grateful. ill try to get some pictures up in the next couple of days. cheers guys
  4. man what value etc is the pot that ur using for volume??? 500k logarithmic? that could be where the problem lies if ur not using a log pot
  5. Kim, you do have a very good point about the pro's and cons of tube amps however one of the features of all the aiken amps is thatthey have attenuators which means you can get a cranked up tube amp sound at realativlly low volumes ido haveto agree on tube prices tho, it can be bloody expensive espescially if the amp uses hard to get tubes the hybrid amps that use tube preamps and solid state power amps are a particularlly good way ofgoing about things. but i still want a piece of all tube goodness eventually i plan to get around to building one tho that may be a few years down the line when im at university lol (electronics is actually my thing and building guitars is just something imtryingto get into)
  6. as far as im concerned, for tubey goodness one of these would do me http://www.aikenamps.com/Sabre_MKII.html thats the amp i would kill for
  7. man thats some seriouslly impressive stuff. i checked out ursite and had a look at the drum body that u got on there, the one where you used to grain of the wood to dothe fish. its bloody well done. i reckon that thisd look pretty sweet on guitars
  8. If the neck on the $60 dollar jobbie is similar to the one on my Striker then its gonna be pretty dam fast
  9. that would look damn sweet, only this is you would probablly need to have a fair few LEDs to light up a piece of acrylic that large and you'd need a way of getting the wires to all of them without them being visable through the acrylic
  10. man thats to damn cute lol. looks seriouslly good. *Noob question alert lol* out of interest how do you do the black lines, the ones on the fur and also around the eyes etc.
  11. hhhmm i can se both sides of the argument. so far all my guitar playing skills have come from just playing system of a down tabs 24/7 lol finger picking is something i needto improve lol so im definatelly starting with the basics first
  12. My first and currentlly only electric was bought off musicyo. its one of the Striker Series. http://www.musicyo.com/product_specs.asp?pf_id=486 there's a link to the exact one, and its in that really nice green as well. i personally love this guitar, while i agree that its not amazinglly nice, its really comfortable to play on. the bodyy is contoured really nicelly and its just so fast. mine is actually tuned to Drop C constantlly lol. personally i have not been able to fault this guitar even when compared to to guitars that friends of mine have which are much more expensive. all in all, music yo is my friend
  13. The difference in frequency shouldn't cause too much trouble. as far as i know all amps will convert the AC mains voltage to a DC voltage for use inside the amp. because of the way this is done it shouldnt make too much difference if you plug it in and it blows up then it was probablly somehting else lol
  14. basically i would like to start learninga little bit of flamenco. just enough to play a couple of chord progressions and make up my own stuff. i have my old 6 string folk acoustic and i figure that i may as well get the most use out of it what i want to know is where would be a good place online to find lessons??? all the sites ive found so far are in ittalian and me no speaké the lingo. any help or anybody who can tell me what chords/scales are most often used??? cheers JG
  15. Mike B, on the new Deftones album Stephen Carpenter uses a very nice 7 string guitar with a baritone neck, he then drops the bottom B string to an A. at some point i am going to have to get a 7 string myself since i just think they're so damn cool (and i wanna play stuff off the new deftones album lol) i personally keep my current guitar tuned to D and just use heaier gauge strings. it sounds better and i only have todrop the bottom string to play SoaD lol
  16. i dont actually have anything to say.......completelly blown away......
  17. i have an old acoustic guitar so i rarelly play clean on my electric lol. i still do a bit but for strumming the acoustic sounds better lol
  18. I have to say that i am split with this GE Jones has a point that nowadays, due to digital electronics, the actually guitar you play matters alot less. for example. my school invested in one of the nice shiny red Line 6 pods for the school studios. a friend of mine was showing it to me and after a quick tinker he dials stuff into the processor. he set it upto replicate a Tube screamer running through a marshal stack. well bugger me it sounded pretty fecking awesome. he went through a load of stuff on there. its got presets for black sabbath (paranoid is what i heard, again it was spot on the right sound), van halen and a host of others. he was playing all this through his kramer striker. Basswood body i will add. Digital electronics can do all of this and without too much trouble. however, i personally dislike digital effects. iwould much rather have a real tube screamer and a real marshal stack and be able to plug in a real guitar that i know is goingto sound nice without me having to spend an hour programing everything into a pod. as with everything, personal preference reigns lol
  19. http://www.greggrogersguitars.com/Finishco...r_semitrans.htm the top pic of those three. the vintage cherry over mahogany. id like to have it on an explorer body. only thing id like to change is to have it darker. so what id like to know is :- what should i use for the red colour in the first place and how do i get it to be darker?? manythanks in advance please note this is my first project so im hoping that this wont be overlly difficult (shooting myself in the foot slightlly since i know its gonna be hard but you know what i mean lol) JG
  20. that is a sweet guitar how much stain did you use and how much did you sand it back?? id like to do something similar on my first guitar but id like to have it much redder in colour and i dont know whether it would be best to use more stain or less sanding?
  21. those inlays look amazing. the manta ray is so ridiculouslly cool.
  22. lol man if you want a wireing schematic diagram then email me and ill try and cook something up for you. youd have to gimme exact specs eg how you want things switching and everything but i could definatelly give it a go Fox_Mulder112@hotmail.com
  23. sry forgot to say in my first post. thanks for giving me some idea. £40 for a lump of mahogany seems like a good deal to me. im just gonna have a dark red colour on it so the wood doesnt have to look amazing
  24. hotrock i live in the berkshire area. the cost of tools wont actually be that bad for me since i have access to my school workshop which literally has everything i could posablly need. band saws and all. to be honest the only thing im worries about is making the neck. im highlly tempted to buy my first neck tho i know that it will cost an utter bomb
