  1. the natural one is the one from earlier in this thread that was vintage violin, when i decided i was going to go back to nitrocellulose lacquer, the customer and i decided that the grain was too nice to put color over, and went for a natural finish... the color in the pickup routes is leftover from the old finish, but will be resolved before this is done. the purple one is getting mated to an RG2077XL neck with all chrome hardware and BKP's.
  2. i agree mostly, except i'm so sick of black guitars
  3. I try to update us much I can. Here are some pics of the parts: Tuners Bridge, 15 6mm MOP dots and nut blanks. Pots with knobs, ferrules, about 2,5 meters of fretwire and trussrod. -Juze aka Ghroath none of those pictures work edit: weird, i got the "moved or deleted" image earlier on all 3, but now they all work
  4. Thanks for the link, I looked around quite a bit but I found no mention of that piece of hardware. Shouldn't it be in w/ the ferrules? or does it come with the bridge? Anyway, I might consider getting some made at work out of stainless. They don't apparently have it on the product listings apparently. Contact them via the "contact us" link and talk to Jason. Tell him Boggs referred you. do you know if they make them for 7 and 8 strings?
  5. looks pretty sweet! love the binding under the neck heel, looks great. one thing, on your volute, it should be about 1/2" closer to the body of the guitar than you made it, at least, from how i learned to do them, so that its basically right underneath the nut at the highest point of the volute...
  6. any closeups of how you attached the neck and the neck heel area in general? i'm curious.
  7. that looks awesome, and you executed the carving exactly how i envisioned though i like how you made it symmetrical by doing it on opposite side as well.
  8. african mahogany looks sweet when left natural.
  9. something that would be really cool looking and functional is to do a comfort carve in the regular place, so that the lines of the radiation symbol stay, yet its comfy.
  10. heres a teaser shot from the photo shoot last night, should have some more, larger, photos up soon.
  11. why? you didn't invent the candy process, maybe you should be crediting whoever did?
  12. free routing cavities never turns out well, learn how to make templates, it will help your builds a million fold.
  13. maybe if you nail the adjustment first shot it just seems like added hassle just because you don't like the hole at the headstock, thats all.
  14. having to take the neck off to adjust the truss rod isn't gonna be fun, should have done a wheel style rod and notched out the end of the fingerboard...
  15. so is this your first neck? its looking pretty sweet thus far, good job neil
  16. figure some way to attach a pickup inside the sound hole, or get something made to fit in the soundhole...
  17. i would not recommend this, if its an X braced guitar, say goodbye to your structural stability, you'll ruin the guitar.

  19. Michael, check out BlackMachine guitars for an idea of what Matt is getting at. www.blackmachine.net They average between the high 20 and mid 30mm thick. I would REALLY like to play one! anywhere from 28-40mm thick, depending on model...
  20. Oh, I LOVE the smell of bloodwood when it's being worked. It makes up for what it does to the tools. I just did some desk clocks with some bocote. It smelled pretty nice too. The zebra I have wasn't as rank as everyone else says it is. Maybe I just got lucky. It was pretty prone to chip-out, which made planing an adventure. I was working with a bunch of woods for the desk clocks, so I can't remember which one, either butternut or basswood... DANG! Straight-up dirty underwear. It's just gawd-offal. i think bocote smells like pickles not that bad, but i wouldn't say it smelled nice either
  21. been working on final assembly on the blue one, though i've noticed the headstock is far too bright of a blue, so i'm gonna work on that tomorrow to make it match the body a little better. its close to ready for final assembly now though! i'm stoked, its coming together quite well.
  22. i think a little thinner of a burst to show off more of that awesome looking top would have been pretty nice...
