  1. Starting my first scratch built neck and had a question for those with particular experience. The local wood shop has some bubinga and maple in 6" wide boards, perfect for the laminate neck I'm planning. If I glue these up, how many neck could I get out of it? How thick would/have/prefer to start with? The neck shape will be a Jem/Wizard/Wizard II shape, but headless, no no need really to plan a volute or scarf. Well, for the first neck anyway. My Wizard II measures about 13/16" (minus fretboard) thick at the heel. Should I shoot for this measurement when ripping on the table saw? Could I get 3 necks out of the wood then? Should I rip one, then leave the bulk of the wood until the next project is decided/started? Thanks in advance for the replies.
  2. Saw the other day showing how PRS does it. I thought it was interesting to see.
  3. Rob, did I miss a thread about how this was done? Is this actual pages glued to the body, or is it painted?
  4. Built PRS-ish with Dimarzios or MM Axis -> Danelectro Cool Cat -> Blues Driver -> Fender Deville 212. I'm waiting on my Fuchs Overdrive Supreme Bassman mod right now. I'll be running that head into an Avatar 212 cab.
  5. I agree, but the strings follow a nice straight line. Functional, but could be a little more attractive.
  6. Very nice. Want to describe your dye/finish process?
  7. I would have figured him for a tube man... I would bet that nyjbkim is right. His distinctive one finger vibrato is the key to his sound. Lucille probably is a big part of it too, but I would bet he could pull it off with just about any guitar. A Peavey rep once told me that he heard Eddie play through a little practice amp and it still sounded like Eddie...
  8. I would like to see the inside of the top and see how the strings are being anchored...
  9. says the creator of the worlds longest flash movie...
  10. 10"-16" compound radius. The rest is posted above. I see that Allparts and Brian both sell the shims.
  11. Are you going to be using your dremmel for the pickups and neck pocket? Just wondering how you're going to get past the ridges for the routing.
  12. Linear equations, eh saber? Math makes my head hurt...
  13. I don't think it's the same guy. He said he was "a graphic designer from Istanbul, TR". Weird coincidence? Welcome Kench.
  14. Thanks Dave, that's a big help. Does anybody sell a 16" floyd, or should I just shim the E,A,B,e saddles on a 14"? Also, would a compound board (10"-16") need an even bigger radius for the bridge (18"-20")? If you follow the lines, wouldn't the radius increase? Just a thought...
  15. I got really confused reading this discussion. Can someone please clarify for the project I'm working on? Warmoth neck (had this for a while, just laying around) -compound radius -24 fret -24 3/4 scale -1 11/16 at the nut -probably graphite nut (instead of locking) -schaller mini locking tuners Body (plan on cutting/routing this weekend) -Floyd (of some kind, top mount, not floating) -HxH -1 vol -1 tone -3 way What do I need to be aware of in regards to the radius?
  16. I remembered seeing this and this. It looks like this guy does it both ways. Pretty neat looking inlay, too.
  17. I guess fret leveling would be a lesson in geometry.
