  1. Its going to be hard to answer that question unless you Bbe more specific about it, not all neck joints are the same.
  2. Ahhh! Thats not cool, please load them up somewhere else so we can actually see them!
  3. Not exactly what i meant. I should have been more specific- Depending on the thickness of the rubber, couldn't the pressure exerted upon the pickup and any mounts from the rubber cause them to become damaged over time?
  4. Then it would be like a Tumor guitar!! Though that might work. But couldn't the rubber interfere with the pickups?
  5. Hmm, I managed to find an inexpensive top-loading bridge from Guitar Fetish. Try looking for an Esquire bridge, those are similar to the tele ones except they are top loaded. You also could do the string through idea you mentioned but i wouldn't recommend you doing that to the guitar without practicing on a separate piece of wood first. Also if you are going to be leaving for a tour soon, you shouldn't do any major work on your guitar if it isn't necessary to make it function. You can always do the work when you get back, and just use some rust removing chemicals to clean it up for now.
  6. Man oh man! I've been looking for places to find good wood for a while and you hit the jackpot! If you are willing I'd definitely be interested in purchasing some of that redwood or black walnut. Nice stuff you have there, should make quite a few amazing instruments!
  7. You have created a monster. One amazing beast you have there SoM!
  8. I wanted to make a neck eventually and I spied this gorgeous bloodwood fretboard on ebay, it ends in less than a day from now and I'm wondering if i should buy it or not. Here is the link, please PM if you have a response to this http://cgi.ebay.com/Guitar-Fretboard-BLOOD...1QQcmdZViewItem thanks!
  9. I have to agree, thats one nice carve. I did one once with a big rasp, a palm sander and lots of varying grits of other sandpaper. Worked out pretty darn well, and I did the neck carve on my new guitar with a router, rasp and sandpaper. Anyway! I really like your design, its simple yet well thought and i like it even with the unaltered headstock. Great work, I can't wait to see this beauty finished!
  10. i... wow. thats just freaking amazing. beautiful guitar you have there. can't WAIT to see it done!!
  11. That is one gorgeous instrument!!! Seems like a nice metal monster. I find the shape to be quite interesting and i always wanted to make a guitar like that. Nice work!!
  12. Greg, Most of that makes sense to me, especially the part about the horns. But I haven't completely finished this guitar's shaping yet so thats not 100% of what it will look like when its done. I'm going to be doing a lot of carving on the upper horn to make it look more 'friendly' to the eye. And yes, I see the whole thing with the horns looking as though they are eating the neck, but I kind of like that look. Yes, the waist is a bit long (error on the bandsaw...) but I just tried to see if its any less comfortable and usable than i thought previously. I put the neck on and 'played' the guitar a bit to see if anything was amiss in its playabilty. I found that accessing those upper frets isMUCH easier than it might look from the pictures. Infact the guitar is quite comfortable and seems much smaller that it looks in the pictures. Thanks a lot for your thoughts on this Greg, I like when people are actually able to tell me what they think. And yes I am quite happy with the outcome! TheIRS
  13. When you say problems do you just mean things preference wise? I'm just wondering that's all. I really don't want to make any big mistakes again. And yes! I do think of it as a re-first since the first was basically an experiment. Hopefully I'll be getting back to work on it soon since i just acquired a router of my own.
  14. I like that visual! Thanks for the positive feedback guys!

  16. Hello PGer's! After the mess that i call my first guitar, I decided to start work on a second one that is so far much better than the first. I still have lots of work to do on it and since school ended for me, I dont have access to a shop or tools anymore. Hopefully I'm going to be picking up a router and some wood clamps today so I can continue working soon. So here is my new favorite pastime, guitar #2! Here's the routing: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Rokai...AR/DSCN1727.jpg Neck Mounts And Carve: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Rokai...AR/DSCN1728.jpg Neck Mounts: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Rokai...AR/DSCN1729.jpg Neck and Single Routs: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Rokai...AR/DSCN1730.jpg Router Slip...: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Rokai...AR/DSCN1731.jpg The Neck: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Rokai...AR/DSCN1732.jpg Hope everyone enjoys this project and any tips or comments are appreciated! As stated before, I am still relatively new to this and I'm learning as I work on this guitar so its not a perfect masterpiece. Thanks for looking! TheIRS EDIT: I forgot to include that the body is a single piece of alder.
  17. Seems as though what i said was misinterpreted, I never said that I didn't like your design or anything, I only pointed the scale length thing out because on my first guitar (which i pulled the design completely out of my head, its not an LP, SG, strat or tele kind of thing) I screwed up my scale length and the guitar will never stay in tune or anything. I just was hoping you wouldn't run into the same dissapointing problem as me. In fact I love guitar designs that aren't the norm or one of the 'standards'. Anyway, I'm really enjoying this guitar and I can't wait to see it finished. I apologize if what i said gave off the wrong idea to you and everyone else, there was no negative remarks towards your design.
  18. This looks to be like a fantastic first guitar, but i have one little suggestion, make the area for your left hand down by the lower horn bigger, otherwise it will be hard to access those frets easily. Other than that, excellent work so far, and where are any recent pictures or developments?
  19. Wow. That is one gorgeous instrument. I really don't even know what to say, it just kind of blew my mind. Amazing work SoM!
  20. i have to agree here, that does look too close. but also did you make sure 100% that your scale length is correct? the amount of space from neck pocket to bridge looks way too long to me.
  21. Your guitar is looking darn good especially for someone new to this. Though you really should get those wings clamped and glued before you do any major carving, it will be extremely hard to keep them lined up with the body if you don't. Either way, great work and keep it up!
  22. Wow! I love this guitar, I'd play that all day long if it was mine. Any chance we can see a picture of the back? I'd like to see the plate. Thanks!
  23. The diagram is perfect, and so is the color code chart, thank you both very much. I'll be putting all this together next week hopefully if i can get the back routed. Thanks again!
  24. Hello everyone! I'm in the process of building an electric guitar and I'd like to know how to make this wiring setup work- 2 volume pots 1 tone pot DiMarzio X2N in bridge Little Killer in Neck http://store.guitarfetish.com/lilkiblhurap.html But I also want to know if there is anyway for me to take advantage of the abilities of these pickups since they are both humbuckers and have multiple leads. So i wanted to know if i could make it so the Little Killer atleast could switch between Single and Hum modes. I really need a scematic within the next few days so i can route out the back of the guitar for the electronics, during the next week. Thank you very much! The IRS
  25. thats one sweet looking guitar. i guess virgins really do make the best paint colors. the whole vortex of brutality thing is amazing, especially on the neck.
