  1. that stereo idea is class!!! i think i might do it to my kit lp!! those sure alot of wiring ideas! go for it if there is room on your guitar, but id settle for a hotrail, the P90, the single coil and the transducer, there would be more room! mike
  2. the inlay looks cool, however itll be a pain in the ass puttin it in! i think the most dadical i would go with a guitar is the Jackson Rhodes. i have some alterations on this design in dwg format (i think) ask me if you want them e-mailed. i have designed some more different Rhodes "v's" 27 and 29 fret ones, even an 8 stringed one, but im not gonna build them!. cya mike
  3. i agree about the meths thing, its quite tough on a semi hard finish! but its good when the finish has hardened, but ALWAYS check on a dummy bit of wood thats been painted with your paint to see if it dissolves!! mike
  4. a block would be better for the body, ill admit, but i think he was referring to the neck, which is pretty rounded! i did the lp paint job by hand as it was a carved top kit, however my next guitar will be oiled! mike
  5. thanks for the tip on the code!! ill be using it now! anyhow i have neglected 2 sweeps that have me a bit stuck. one of them has a slide which is managable, but i find these difficult! e------------------------8--12 B-------------------10-------- G-------------5--9------------ D-----------7------------------ A---------7-------------------- E--5---8----------------------- the last portion from the G string upwards i have no bother, its the start is mushy. also in this shape. e------------------5---8 B----------------5------ G-------------5--------- D-----------7----------- A---------7------------- E--5---8---------------- thanks for taking the time to tab out your examples guys!! mike
  6. thanks for the reply. i think my posting will slow down, when i have less time on my hands!! the sweeping that want2desgin has shown is the type that i am quite capable of, but its a different view on it, thanks. the sweeping that has me stuffed a bit is the 2 notes per string type, e.g. e-------------------5--8 B----------------6------ G-------------7--------- D----------7------------ A-------7--------------- E-5--8------------------ its the initial 2 notes that stuff me, on the way up and down, as i kinda slur them together trying to play them as fast as the other notes. the 2 note on the top strong are easy for some reason tho!!! thanks alot guys! mike
  7. i suppose its personal preference what you use. btw i dont hold the paper with the tips of my fingers, as this would leave ripples, i hold it in my palm, which acts like a soft block. mike
  8. on the guitar i finished i didnt once use a sanding block, and the finish was perfact, no dimples, it aint to perfect now since i have bumped it a bit! it really depends on how much time you spend on it. i took ages per coat, almost an hour, with 14+ coats of paint. mike
  9. the jelly caster is a cool guitar, some work there, and your showcase (project guitar.com)'s server is down i like the quilt top, very beat i must say!!! mike
  10. i also forgot.. yes, hand sand it, as electric sanders are brutal machines!!! they are good for wood finishing at rough stages but not paint!!! spend about 15-30 mins per coat sanding. patience will pay off! dont use sanding blocks, as these will leave a streak where they meet the surface. i havent tried this, just thought of it, perhaps if the paper was wrappedd in a soft sponge it would sand okay... remember thin coats, patience, and clean the surface before you spray again, with meths (check it doesnt dissolve the paint first!!!) cya mike
  11. forgot to adress the sandpaper. for finishing see the pinned up tutorial. but ill help here. personally id use 600 grade silicon carbide wet and dry with water to get imperfections inbetween coats. as this paper gets blunt it will act more like a higher grade paper. after your happy with the finish move onto 1000 grade for a coat then 1200 then 2000 and then polish up. remember that all of the imperfections must be taken out with the 600 or 1000 grade paper, as the higher grades only polish really, and clog up really quickly. its quicker using the lower grade paper first. hope this helps mike
  12. well, if it were me, i would mask the fingerboard side, and paint the neck black as planned, then at the lip you described, the wee bump i would use very fine sandpaper, and smothen the bump down to a minimum without exposing the maple. then if you wanted more id clear coat the whole neck, sanding where the bump occurs, until its level then final coat it and finish. hope this helps mike
  13. on my les paul style guitar kit i put a clear coat on the whole neck except the fingerboard. i like the unlaquered fingerboard, it feels natural, however the laquer wont protect the ebony from much it cant resist at the moment, its very hard. unless your hands sweated like someone takin a piss the ebony can hold its own. p.s. i like oiled f.boards. the oil protects like the laquer, but you need to oil every so often mike
  14. i forgot!!! i used Dunlop65 Lemon oil on my ibanez's fretboard after i had scalloped it, it smells nice, and cleans well. do not use lemon oil on a maple fingerboard - lemon is yellow, so is its oil (shock!!) so it would stain. mike
  15. i think tung oil is used, but im not sure, also look at teak oil, its good mike
  16. holey moley thats good! how do ya do it? mike
  17. any tips on detail air brushing, like logos, and other such stuff, thanx mike
  18. good plan on the polishing. thanks! reply to i dont think it matters how much PU u put on, just go till your happy with the glossy-ness, and feel/look. 2 cans seems quite a bit, so ill wager theres enough on there to do!! mike
  19. thanks StonesCreed, i had though of a lubricant of somesort, but hadnt thought of graphite, thanks!! i was thinkin a silicone based spray or teflon based. ill try this when i break my strings next, not long then!! mike
  20. its possible yes, however you would need a STRONG glue to compensate for the smaller area, and i would shim the neck till it was really tightly fitted. Cascamite is a strong glue, and Araldite also. cyas mike
  21. Michael "Angelo" Batio had a 29 fret washburn, in his vid speed kills, and if speed does kill, he would have been on a genocidal level!! anyhow, the top frets are pretty unuseable cos of their size, however they are good for flashy ornamentation, and if you just need the extra high frets to end a run on, and i have designed a 29 fret guitar, its quite cool if i can find it ill mail it to ya if you like, its a turbo cad 2D 6.5 format. cyas mike
  22. thanks alot guys , been a great help, i think ill widen the nut, and if that dont work schaller locking tuners are being purchased mike
  23. there are more guitars out there, suitable for shredding, but only 10 answers allowed however vote on you crazay diamonds!
  24. 16, and im sure the "old man" can kick ass on guitar! guitarists mature with age remember! mike
  25. i think the horn is different, however im not a fan of bigsby trems, and im not sure that i like this guitar at all! mike
