  1. Just want to add that preamp tubes can easily work for that amount of time. Often if people claim the sound of their amp gets worse and worse it's just that they become more sensible to it's weak spots. Considering this is a crappy valvestate I would not be surprised....In this case I would just change the tube and try if it makes a difference. But for amps with many tubes it's often a better idea to play the same amp in a store or somewhere and check if it is really the tubes or your ear....
  2. The solution of lowering the pu's and bridge is not good at all. You want the strings to be AT LEAST 10mm above the body, otherwise picking the strings is quite uncomfortable and thus the bass will always play shitty.
  3. True!!!! I could not believe how great a scraper works. You think it's a cheap piece of flat metal but in fact you can do so much with it. Especially the thinner ones that you can bend to the contour you need.
  4. Yep I am always impressed what smooth surfaces can be done with spokeshaves or hand planers if they are really setup properly. However fine grit sandpaper will definately still give the better smoothest result.
  5. True....I just thought that it was a little harsh for someone presenting his newest creation....but I know what you mean.
  6. Looks good so far. Although I would change the backround to a darker color as was already said. And if you are talking about the projectguitar homepage and not the forum then it could definately be redesigned. @feyla: I hate it if people only post "this sucks" and offer nothing constructive. He has a good intention and already worked for it. At least give some arguments or help him to improve it. If your only intention is to whine then don't post.
  7. Sounds interesing. How does it look? light brown? or black with brown stripes? In the second case I would be interested....and I guess if you post a pic here your changes of selling it will be way better(plus I can have a look )....
  8. I don't think thats a good idea at all. This press is only able to exert force in one VERY small area and looks very instable. Even if you find two planes that are hard and stable enough to clamp the wood in between you need to exert force on several places on the planes and not just one. There is a reason for veneer presses....
  9. Just read that you won't add a peghead veneer! I think you HAVE to do that! A blue quilted maple headstock veneer would make it look 100% perfect. As I said before the guitar looks really great but the uncolored headstock does look a little bland in comparison to the rest.
  10. Man! I am really impressed. That's one of the best guitars I saw by a member of the forum. It's rare that I see a guitar that I would like to own. This definately is one of them. Great work!!!!
  11. Great work. Especially the binding looks very nice.
  12. Ouch....I bet you could fix that crack by simply gluing everything back together if no splinters are lost. BUT if the package was insured and UPS destroyed it they will have to pay for it although it will be a SLOW process. If they pay you the whole price I would definately wait for that to happen instead of licing with a broken guitar for full price.
  13. Well....it's a pointless discussion but I still have to defend my position . There are so many factory necks that are not good enough for my taste. The neck decides everything: feel, playability, intonation, etc. If you consider a great fret job easy you are either a master or you don't know how big the difference can be here. There is no task that is more difficult then doing a really excellent fret job. Maybe finishing the body comes close....
  14. Sounds interesting. I have a company that clearcoats my guitars VERY well but not cheap. I would like to get into finishing myself. Was that your first guitar finish? How is do you think it is to get a good result as a beginner with that stuff? Building a neck is way more difficult in my opinion. If you are able to build a nice body you will definately have a good chance to build a good neck. However building a PERFECT neck takes quite some practise. There are so many difficult tasks involved like really precise radiusing, fret leveling and shaping of the back. In contrary to that building a body is a simple task.
  15. Excellent looking guitar! Congrats! What did you use for the clear coat and how did you apply it?
  16. Buy the wood you want from a source in the USA. Shipping costs are dirt cheap in comparison to what it costs to send a package TO the usa from Europe. Usually about 15-30$ for a body blank via airmal and even cheaper by ship. If you tell the seller to mark it as a "wood sample" on the customs form you won't even have to pay import taxes. At least here in Germany I get better quality wood for better prices if importing from the USA. Additionally the body wood is not the place to save money in my opinion. There is no way you can ever change it and building the body takes a serious amount of work. Better pay 30$ more here and have a great guitar then not. In picture of the complete price for building a guitar 30$ are neglegible....
  17. As Jester I can only say that I read about these lawsuits. Behringer is a company based in Germany so it is discussed in public arround here. I bet it won't be difficult to find articles via google backing that up. I just don't have the time right now. The point in in these accusations was not that Behringer copied the functionality or sound of something but reverse engineered it and copied it directly. In building audio electronics the research and optmizing of the device is the biggest cost factor in developement and that is where Behringer saves big money that way and makes them able to sell at way lower prices.
  18. They definately have flex in them. They make the neck stronger but not unadjustable. The instruments using carbon rods I saw so far had them running parallel to the truss rod and for the whole length of the trussrod. I would do that at least. I think it would be even better to run them from the heel of the neck and through to the peghead to make the peghead/neck joint even stronger. I never installed carbon rods although I planned to do so and have them here, so I can only tell you what I saw and what common sense tells me. I recommend waiting for some comments of people who actually used them.
  19. As far as I know you cannot give feedback without having bought the item. No reason to worry here. Concerning the rest of the auction: I cannot believe what you write. Granted this is the first guitar you sold, BUT that is no reason to tell lies in the listing and you know you were not honest. Or are you really convinced that that guitar is made to Washburn specs, etc.? I can imagine that might happen in the excitement of selling one's first custom guitar....everybody makes mistakes. And the thing I respect most are people admitting their mistakes and fixing them which is what you are doing. So relist it properly and forget about it. And sorry if my first post sounded harsh but I really get upest if I suspect a fraudulent ebay listing. I was ripped of 50$ by some wood seller who never shipped not long ago....
  20. If our accusations are so wrong and unfair then why did you pull the auction? You could easily have changed the listing again nobody forced you to take it down. Instead of attacking as you should have changed the listing again and be glad that we pointed it out BEFORE you get your first negative rating or maybe even more trouble. So get it listed properly and you are welcome here every time I bet.
  21. As I already wrote they don't do something like that for the first time. They did very direct rip-offs of mackie mixing desks for example and were sued. I bet they will be sued again but and handle the situation the same again. They do it the Microsoft way. You steal something and sell it in big volumes and do your best to delay the court process. Afterwards you have made enough profit to easily pay your penalty and still make profit. And if it is even worse and you are not allowed to sell the product anymore you still have made enough money to make the whole story a win. I agree. I am no friend of pedals anyway. It's not that I have much pity for Boss. My reason is that I don't want to see the business world dominated by companies who use such unmoral and criminal business tactics. After all isn't M$ and friends bad enough?
  22. Would not be the first time this happens to Behringer, but usually they delay the negotations in court so long that they already sold enough of the product in question to be able to easily pay the penalties and still make a good profit. Very ugly strategy and one of the reason why I don't like Behringer. Their equipment is good and prices are excellent but you support that kind of business practice by buying from them. That's the reason I have no good feeling when buying from them....
  23. I can only second what Wes wrote and Wes IS REFFERING TO THE CHANGED VERSION. The whole title and description is written to sound like he's selling a real Washburn. And the disclaimer he added is a lie: How criminal is that???? NOTHING on that guitar is built to exact specs of the original: 1. The neck joint is different 2. The finish on neck and body is different 3. The trem is a low quality crap unit 4. The Pu's are different 5. Even with bare eye you can see that the body shape is different 6. The brand of tuners is different 7. The neck contour will definately be different 8. I bet he did use different frets I would like people like you to get jailed for these kind of auctions. People like you ruin the ebay expirience for everyone. I am definately thinking about reporting that fraudulent listing to ebay.
