1. What does that mean? Necro means dead. I believe he means something along the lines of "Don't post in dead threads." I don't know how long a thread has to have gone without posts to be considered dead. This one was less than a month old. I suppose we should just keep posting new threads on the same topics once the old ones get more than a few weeks old.
2. I know a guy (not over the internet, I actually KNOW the guy) that has spent thousands on guitars from Ed Roman. He had some quote on the site for a while. He has never been displeased. I think there is a lot of horseshit in the rant section there, but, like Perry, I don't know anyone who has been reamed by Ed. As for the guitars, I really don't care for any BC rich headstocks.
3. Jimmy Page's Danelectro was used primarily for slide, so it probably had some weird tuning. I don't know which one though.
4. You mean the cardboard like stuff with a bunch of holes drilled in it? Yeah it is. Why do you want a top riddled with holes? Why not just get a sheet of solid masonite? sarcasm much? soapbox is saying,in his own way,to use what works and has worked and not try to build a guitar out of crap you can buy at wal mart,so to speak pine is for houses....hardwood is for guitars (IMO) but by all means use whatever cheap crap you have...just don't expect it to sound good or last a lifetime It's sometimes hard to recognize sarcasm when it is typed. Just curious, I thought hardwood and softwood didn't necessarily refer to hardness of the wood, but it referred to how or when it grew, or leaf type or something.
5. I think Viva La Bam sucks. CKY is pretty funny. I like Jackass the best. I don't like Wildboys or whatever that show is where the Jackass dudes get attacked by aminals.

7. You could smash it into pieces. My personal experience with the Saga kits is that you get what you pay for. They don't completely suck, but they aren't the greatest guitars in the world.
8. I don't believe that. But I'll try not to argue.
9. I believe the cap on Les Pauls covers up some of the routing channels. If you make a one piece, you'll have to do it some other way. BTW, taking the finish off the neck can make it more prone to warpage.
10. That was Robert Benedetto. He was mentioned earlier in the thread.
11. I don't know the point at which the strings break over the bridge though. That affects where the neck joint goes. If I have a 25.5" scale neck, and the bridge is 30" away from the nut, it won't intonate properly. The templates should help sort it all out though. All is well. Thanks guys.
12. Not true. Due to stretching of the string when fretted, and other factors, The string must be longer than the scale length to intonate properly. I don't want the string length. I know the unintonated string length. I would like to know how far the nut is from the neck joint. ASCII drawing headstock------------------------------------bridge ====================+++++++++++++++ ---string =neck +body I want to know the length of the neck. (the "=" segment)
13. I'll try to explain it better. I know how to calculate scale length. I don't have a Floyd Rose though. I think that in theory, I would want the saddles on the bridge, when they are at the middlemost point of forwards and backwards travel (i.e. not adjusted for intonation) to be exactly 25.5" from the nut. I do not know where that point of saddle travel is in relation to the posts. I think I explained that right. Those templates should help. Isn't the seller of the templates a forum member?
14. I'm not sure I can. I know the scale length is 25 1/2", but I don't know how far away the break point of the strings is from the posts.
15. Thanks. That helps a lot. I can't access one of these fine guitars to measure it. I'm trying to figure out how long the neck needs to be with normal (non-aanj) neck joint. Are there any neck drawings on the 'net?
16. I'm thinking of building an RG or Jem style guitar, but have had some difficulty finding plans. Does anybody know where I can find any? I would especially appreciate any plans that include the neck.
17. Soldering tips. --Always, Always, ALWAYS wear eye protection. --You can use alligator clips and hemostats as heatsinks to protect your part. --Don't grab the hot part of the iron. (I know, very obvious, but I have done it )
18. I would definitely install a tone control. I play Jazz though, so I usually turn down the pot. (pun not intended.)
19. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Ironman from 1970? I believe Smoke on the Water and Burn are from 1972 and 1974 respectively. If that's so, then Iommi must posess a time machine of some kind in order to rip off songs that didn't yet exist.
20. Actually they are mostly based on tried and true shows. For the most part they are "reality" television shows.
21.

Isent that body building stuff??
not exactly....some use it for weight loss though....
oh.. so it's crystal meth. I hate coffee. Tastes like ash. Tea isn't any better. Jack and Coke is the way to go.
22. If you say so. I'll have to find a color a local gang hasn't already taken.
23. I like it. I think it'd be cooler if they put red dot inlays at frets 3,7,9,12,15,17 and 21. I use the inlays to see where I am. I hate the Gothic Les Pauls.
