  1. In 1977 when I was in Kindergarten , the Teacher asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up ....... I answered "Gene Simmons" ...... and -mortified - she asked why ... I told her " He can spit fire and blood , he has HUGE monster boots and WINGS!!" Then I started mimicing him " God of Thundah!!!!... " I got sent to see the principal and my parents were called in ( BIG country and Western fans ... not so keen on KISS ) and everyone wanted to know how I came to my conclusion........ ( My older brothers ) I never did tell... made up some story about hearing it on the radio .... I got hooked on guitar back then and it never left me. Didn't grow up to be Gene , but I had my fun with music and playing live. Thanks for posting that pic ! Its awesome to see 'em still kickin it ! Oh - and build something , would ya ?? I need pics ........
  2. John , as the father of two sets of twins I can honestly say - you can make em as different as you'd like. Unless you were doing two guitars of the same scale length , etc or two basses , they're different anyway so just roll with their differences. The similarities still say 'twins' no matter what. Both sets of mine are boy/girl. We still get the question all the time "are they twins?" to which we always smile and say 'yes' to. You'll probably get that same question a lot when people see the builds ... Good stuff however you roll , just wanted to impose my opinion on you.
  3. Be proud man... be very proud. That looks sick! don't know how those shots slipped by me...... ...the forum needs a little green envy smileycon ..... that'd be me right now. oh well , here's a and a that about sums it up.
  4. Nice stuff Prostheta - I dig the domination cover ! Akula - that song makes everyone jump the first time around. Its made me leap in muh seat in my car before........ Get in and not expect it to come on .... then......... POW! Thanks for spinnin the tunes....... glad you dig 'em
  5. Awwww c'mon !!!! 4 pages and no solo ??? I know this thread is old but does anyone have a copy of the solo-less song ?? Anyone know of a link thats alive??
  6. Cool stuff ! You play with your fingers. That rocks. The tone I had was due to this thing: It was a Carvin SX-300 head with a slant front 4x12 loaded with Ampeg speakers on top/ Eminence on the bottom. I split it so both the rythym guitarist and myself could play through one cab. Made gigging easier , but again , the sound guy was all .... if you look at the 2nd vid toward the end , the ( lousy ) cameraman zooms in to the stage a bit and you can see the amp in the back with a Mic on each side of it. I like to think my tone comes from my hands since no matter what I seem to play through , it always sounds like me playing......... but that night was an Ibanez geet , Dr. Jekyll distortion pedal and the carvin amp. Pups are always Guitarheads.net brand. "Quality" home-made recordings are on http://www.myspace.com/popalung Rock on !
  7. I 've done some re-covers before... Spray -glue is your friend. Spray both surfaces and allow them to "tack" ~~ then put 'em together. Corners are best covered with corner protectors , which hides the "folds" and keeps the corners from getting smashed while touring/gigging. I've even done one in "muppet-fur" .......
  8. http://www.acehardwareoutlet.com/(vcsnew45...urce=GoogleBase ^^ thats rosin core 40/60 electrical solder. Makes all that dipping and dabbing pointless.
  9. Nice save. The guitar was nice before. Now its *Niiiiiiccce* . I love the way the new color makes everything stand out.
  10. If it helps.... I have 2 of em getting sanded back down right now because I wasn't patient enough to wait on the right weather...... they got foggy in spots. While I wait for good weather , I'll go backwards. Take a drive and come back later - you'll see it better. ( That guitar is worth working for - it looks awesome so far _ )
  11. I've got a mid-forties pickup truck rotting away in the woods next to my house. Any particular parts to look out for if I were to attempt a rusty-rod-inspired guitar ? ( I've got a '51 Ford hood ornament on my '93 Civic ,I love to rod cars..... ) I really dig the rust and think some car trim could be incorporated somewhere in a build for sure.. maybe a gear shift lever for the whammy bar , or the blinker arm .... stick a turn signal on it , ... an old radio dial around the knobs..... , pull out light switch for a push pull pot ?? lol ...... they have dimmer switches built in , right ???? I love it when builds make my brain do circles... Thanks.
  12. We actually used a 6 foot tall plywood "shadow-man" behind a real drumkit with our logo on it to help the stage look. lol . "Buster" got all kinds of attention from people though. here's one of our originals from the same show. I like the melodic yet driving music you guys play. Kinda punkish and edgy but easier to digest than some drunk kid spitting venom into a mic. Got any others ? .. oh , and which one are you ?lol ... I'm the cat on the left with the Ibanez RG...
  13. Wowzah!!!!!!!! Thats nice. I'm going to attempt a swirl. My well water is so pure and clean I think I'll get decent results with the paint floating. I've watched a lot of videos and the successful swirls all have certian techniques that are WORLDS apart from some of the , let's just say "less than stellar" jobs .... ( the red one in the shallow tub - !! ) You do swirls that look just like - if not better than - factory.
  14. Was totally joshing ya about the CNC thing - I'd do it if I could too. At least use templates unless you want it to look like my stuff... About the flipped image , get the best of both worlds - try to flip the whole image with the tombstone writing overlayed in the right direction....... Bobble-head Eddie approves.
  15. Yeah , we were high-energy..... Boss drum machine took care of bass and drums. Shoulda seen the look on the sound-guys face at most places. big fun though.....
  16. http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...st&p=458703 Thats the SM Pyramid wire in that neck there. First time I tried it , but I'll probably use it again. I haven't strung this neck or played it yet , but install was easy and I like the "pointy" profile compared to the fat roundy.
  17. I figgered out how to retrofit an existing FB to use this: I added a small piece of ebony and slotted it
  18. Well .... I had some left-over chromey stuff , so I decided to pinstripe this one with it..... I think it made it even more metal-er-est.
  19. Dig the vibe you got going on ... the clapper on the left is slightly behind the beat , causing a cool , delay-like effect. Nice setting though. Y'all should do a whole album out there. Here's me n my homies rippin up some Pantera live in Phoenix , Az.
  20. Thanks I used powdered dye , rubbed it on dry , then wet-sanded with 600 grit. I'm glad you like it!
