Gregory
I just got it together to take a few pictures of my project, its an ash body and a onepiece maple neck. As of yet I still have to finish it (aniline dyes) rout for the pickups and do a setup and nut. I'm pretty happy with it and I'd love any feedback I hope the image works.... if not its on my website Edited January 1, 2005 by Gregory

AlGeeEater
i like the cross between a tele and a sharp horned strat thing. Neck pocket looks a bit square...
Gregory
The neck pocket IS square (well it is tapered), I made the pocket square rather than made the neck rounded

Drak
Well I must admit to you having good taste, hehehe...reminds me of my little 'Blanco El Diablo' And it only took me 9 years to get to the point of designing that little gem, so for your first effort, you're far ahead of me. Congrats on having good taste in Teles!
Gregory
I just finished routing for the pickups. it was a pain. To make the template I set 5 fences up (top,2 bottom parts, and two sides.) All in all, so far so good Edited January 1, 2005 by Gregory
VanKirk
Can't see the pic. Try using http://www.photobucket.com It's a free site. I believe the rules are (if not a tutorial) you can post 1 pic in the thread (but not hot-linked) and the rest should be linked to where you have them hosted such as photobucket. Sign up there and post those pics! I wanna see 'em!
Gregory
I'll get photobucket but all the pics are at my website
Drak
Hmmmm. Try this. Open up one of your pictures. Right click on the pic, then click on properties. Copy the -location-, and use that to paste in the http window. Make sure your account is set so guests can view your pics, but not play with your account. stiggz
looks good, well the top half anyway, i like the round smooth curves of the tele, but u cant ruin them with the pointy stuff my opinion anyway
Gregory
I'm done sanding so now I want to finish it. I'm going to dye it red. So what should the finishing order be? Is this right? 1.epoxy grainfiller 2. clear coat a few times with deft spray 3. tint deft brushon laquer with alchohal based anilyne dye? or use the dye directly 4. clear coat many more coats
skye
oh dude, wicked!, you've got a southpaw monkey (*points at avatar*) anyway, this is an interesting tele-meets-evil body here... I do like it though I can't say I'd ever possess a model like that- but points for bein' different! waiting so desperately for the final pics. Gregory
I just grainfilled it with epoxy, so when I sand the epoxy, how do I know when to stop. Also, how many clearcoats should I do before doing the dye Should I : tint deft brushon laquer with alchohal based anilyne dye? or use the dye directly thinned with alcohal? Bill-Murray
What does taper mean?? I always hear, taper the fretboard, neck, etc. Sorry for the dumb Q
LGM Guitars
My question is, what do you mean when you say you're going to apply a dye? A dye is like a stain, it should be absorbed into the wood, now that you've sealed it you can't apply a dye. You can spray a transparent color, but you won't be able to dye anything unless you sand all your grain filler off.
Gregory
What does taper mean?? I always hear, taper the fretboard, neck, etc. Sorry for the dumb Q I mean that the neck pocket is tapered to fit the neck, not truely square. from the guitar reranch site On Dyes I got the impression that I could use my alcohal based dyes over the sealed wood. Water based dyes can only be applied to unfinished and unsealed wood whereas alcohol based dyes can be either wiped onto unfinished wood or sprayed over filled and sealed wood. Water based dyes cannot be successfully sprayed over sealed wood.
LGM Guitars
from the guitar reranch site On Dyes I got the impression that I could use my alcohal based dyes over the sealed wood. Yes, you can use them, but only if you spray them, they can't be wiped on like a standard dye or stain once you seal the wood. I also personally really don't like the look of a dye that is sprayed onto a sealer like epoxy, it won't settle into the wood and enhance grain like if you had not sealed the wood before. It tints it, same as laying a piece of clear tinted plastic over it. When you apply it to the raw wood, it will soak into the softer wood deeper and darker giving a much deeper looking finish. It will still work for you, you just have to spray it now.
Gregory
I'm a perfectionist so I sanded all the epoxy off, Then I sanded everything to 600 grit I would dye it today but roads were really slick and we ran out of denatured alcohal I guess I just put in enough dye till the color looks right? How much dye do I need for a whole guitar?

Gregory
"Looks like a burst. Did you wipe on your burst?" yeah I did It was fun thing and I didn't have to mess around with spray equipment But it makes it look a little more "Home Made"
