jay5
Matt, have you tried to make necks? I think it would really allow you to design some killer guitars, top to bottom. You wouldnt have to settle for modded necks and ebay specials.
chrisb0109
This is probably me favorite of your body designs. Its look absolutely stunning. I LOVE the quilted purpleheart. Got any more of that lying around?
!!METAL MATT!!
well I have been building guitar's for year's now but I have never built my own neck and that realy suck's since I have to use someone else's headstock design but Iam haveing a 7-string neck built for me with a blank headstock that way I can use my own design I LOVE the quilted purpleheart. Got any more of that lying around? Yep it's in with the pic's I sent you a while ago !!METAL MATT!! Edited December 29, 2004 by !!METAL MATT!! Daniel Sorbera
matt matt matt. I am building my first guitar and am doing my own neck out of cocobolo (twice as hard as maple) and IT's cuming along VERY nicely. IF I can do it YOU can surly do it. It's very easy. It just takes a long time to shape the back of it thats all. It's really not hard at all. It would add a new dimenstion to your instrements if you built oyur own. Setch
Build your own neck Matt. I'm sure I'm not the only one here who's build a bunch of necks, and seen a load of your pics, and it's pretty obvious you have the abiltiy to **** out necks in your sleep. They're really not hard. If you're doing like Drak, and building eye-popping takes on classic designs, the ready made neck makes sense. For your stuff, it's a compromise. Given the nature of your designs (can you say 'Uncompromising!!) that's a cop out. GO BUILD A NECK - SLACKER!!!
!!METAL MATT!!
AH the wize word's of Setch "GO BUILD A NECK - SLACKER!!!" I dont know why but it freak's the hell outa me. Maiden69
GO BUILD A NECK - SLACKER!!! NOOO HE DIDN'T!!!! Setch, in my case is no the building but the tools to make it nice. They aint that cheap you know! And I bet a lot of people here feel the same. But I will make my neck too, maybe sooner than I expect, so Matt, your up dude! Bah If you've got the tools to build a body, you've got the tools to build a neck. Router, rasp, spokeshave, some sandpaper.... job done. You don't need a fretpress, you can make the radiused sanding blocks (see my tutorial on the main site), you can level the frets with 320 grit stuck to a carpenters level... Improvise! The only specialised tool I use for fretting is my crowning file, and that can be substituted with a tri-corner file and a bit of practice. Everything else is made or adapted from cheap parts, and even the crowning file was bought 2nd hand from my local luthier for £10. Anyhow.... enough thread hijacking
Maiden69
Setch, you know what, with the guitar that I'm making in FEB, I will make the neck too. I'll be PM you to get more info before buying the stuff. Thanks, we'll see how it comes out.

Daniel Sorbera
you could add some really cool lightning bolt pickup covers. That would look sooooo sweet.
!!METAL MATT!!
Hey Godin have you ever done any work with pickup's before or have you ever made your own pickup's before?? EDIT ya know what would be real cool custom shaped pickup's Like your lightning bolt idea that would be deadly in black like an EMG !!METAL MATT!! Edited December 30, 2004 by !!METAL MATT!! Daniel Sorbera
auccually no, I havent built my own pickups. yet... I am planning on doing it. Mabye even for the guitar i'm building now. I was think that the lightning bolts would be yellow on a black guitar. but thats just me hold on i'll go photo shop it. be back in a sec! ok here it is lightning. Dont laugh, it's just something quick to show you what the yellow on black would look like. obviously on an awesome body like matts it would look really cool. Maiden69
Just EMG707 in the neck and 81/7 in the bridge and have a custom rings made with quilted maple and the purple heart on the sides. Or just cover them with venneer to match the body. The l bolts look cheesy. Too nice of a wood choice to mess with things to much.
!!METAL MATT!!
well i've been thinking of just useing one pickup on this guitar since the maple is so wild that it would suck to cover it up with a pickup I like the idea of a EMG707 but there a bit pricey !!METAL MATT!! !!METAL MATT!!
Well I did some thinking last night and Iam going to use the EMG707, I was looking at how a normal pickup would look on this guitar and even though it looks ok iam not very happy with the borring look of a normal humbucker, I want wild but soft at the same time so as not to take away from my body design. Does anyone know where I could find A Jig to make the pickup cavity for this type of pickup, I have never worked with EMG707's before and I realy dont want to screw this thing up so any info would be greatly welcome hear thanks hear's a link to EMG's web page. take a look they have some realy cool stuff http://www.emgpickups.com/displayproducts....=6&catalogid=89 !!METAL MATT!!
