bowser
It doesn't have to 'repeat' what the higher strings are normally. It would probably be easier to have the string 5 half steps lower because that is what you would be used to for the bottom strings of the guitar
Meegs666
if you plan on playing power chords on the bottom than it should be F# for it to line up correctly.
erikbojerik
I can't imagine playing an 8 string guitar would be very pleasant. Has anyone actually played an 8 string before? my seven string is unpleasantly wide in the neck...it is not nice to play for long like you,i think that an 8 string would be very cumbersome.i would rather play a boat paddle ← Yeah...no thumb cheats with an 8. westhemann
Well...its better, but it still doesn't line up...shouldn't it be GBEADGBE? ← only if you want to be able to barre a power chord on the top 2 strings.but for standard interval(?) tuning f# is it Yeah...no thumb cheats with an 8. i can barely use my thumb for the root notes on a six
jammy
Yeah...no thumb cheats with an 8. ← I can use my thumb on my 8, I do have big hands though....
westhemann
it's not about merely "using your thumb" it is about chording while using your thumb for root notes in actual playing situations such as "little wing"
goth_fiend
i dont think it would be that difficult, then again i have monster hands... the laminates for the neck are glued up and it will be a few days before i start roughing it out
Argali
So exactly why are the guitarists in Meshuggah using Ibanez guitars again instead of their custom-built Nevborn 8-strings?
goth_fiend
apparently the nevborns didnt innotate properly or something like that
Canuck Brian
I think that they have a couple of the Nevborn 7's but only one of the Nevborn 8's. I have never seen Frederik play a Nevborn 8 but I've seen Maarten play one a couple of times. They're probably still under an endorsement contract with Ibanez to use their guitars. Argali
apparently the nevborns didnt innotate properly or something like that ← Really? I thought they used them exclusively to record Nothing. I saw both guitarists use them live, through POD Pros, and they sounded like pure mud. Shame because they're beautiful guitars. ThePlague
i'm pretty sure the nevborn guitars were just for until they could get the ibanez ones made.
Argali
i'm pretty sure the nevborn guitars were just for until they could get the ibanez ones made. ← But that doesn't really make sense. Check out the Nevborn site - those guitars are amazing. I can't imagine that anything Ibanez could build would match that. (Then again I notice there are hordes of Ibanez-lovers in this place...) ThePlague
the ibanez are basically the same thing but in an RG shape. perhaps they like RG's.
westhemann
more likely they got a promise of more numerous guitars from ibanez than what nevborn could produce..... amazing what a promise of new custom guitars for free can do. I find that hard to believe, but there it is. It's interesting to note that Fredrik Nevborn is a graduate of the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery. BLS
They had to pay for the Nevborns, the Ibanez were more than likely given to them. Which would you choose?

goth_fiend
well I didnt feed it to the WOD, but my cousin on the other hand....we wont go into details, but i will start another 8 eventually.
