Not so much refering to contour of body shape......I did see that pencil line too.

I'm more worried about the pick-up cavities. They are not very uniform.

Next to that I think the RG shape is off.

And yeah, maybe it's the lighting or so.......I'm just picky about the RG shape......

Not just to piss on your project.........but also here to help. I have cad file available of RG that is very close. If you want me to send it to you, you should send me a PM.

If you don't have Autocad available....I would recommend downloading free cad file viewers somewhere online.

Better even would be to sign up to MIRC network. Get program MIRC.exe and go to Packetnews.com and search for Autocad. Multiple files for Autocad 2005 should pop-up (incl serials). (Multiple tutorials out there how this downloading works. Just Google MIRC.

I'm not promoting illegal downloading of CD, Movies, Software or so......I'm just pointing out it's out there......for everyone to grab.

I just think Autocad is indispensible when building guitars.....say you want to route a pickup cavity.....you go to SD or Dimarzio's website....you get the proper measurements.....you model those in Autocad. Print them out 1:1.....and that model becomes your base for routing template out of MDF.

This way, your routes will be dead on and sharp as a nail.

Hmm....lol....what else if not promoting illegal downloading is it if you post how to obtain an aillegal copy? :D

(Not that I think it's that bad in this case....because as long as you don't have your own shop and earn good money the price for autocad is damn unreasonable)

thanks for the feedback.

the shape is rough.

the pickups have been routed. i think they are neat, especially for somewhere that isnt even seen!! my client is very happy with it as it stands, and he is a perfectionist. i would understand if it was the neck pocket or the trem routes!

Mike

PS i will be building templates after i get template bits. so the cad of that would be cool! i have turbo cad 2d v6.5 i think.

Cant see whats wrong with the routes. Maybe the location is different to a real RG, but the routes for pu's, neck and trem look clean to me at least from the pictures.

i am reasonably sure they are in the same pos as the orig!

Actually, in this case it'd be for research, therefore it's not really illegal, especially if he deletes it after 24 hours. My mom is taking law classes and that's what she said she was told when her teacher copied a law program for her. Actually I kind of read it somewhere before, but that told me it straight up.

I think your Mom and her Professor need to go back and retake "Trademarks and Unfair Competition". Research or not, you HAVE to have a legal license to use any software. Autocad has not been licensed for any kind of free-distribution, so downloading, installing, and USING an unlicensed copy is very much illegal.

BTW, before you say anything else:

1. I'm graduating from law school this coming May.

2. I took Trademarks and Unfair Competition last fall.

3. I used to design and program software for a living--so I take licensing very seriously.

wow that one hijacked thread but anyways I think that the routing looks funny because the picture isn't taken head on, its at an angle. I think if we had a direct head on view it would look much nicer

Yes, but I still wonder how the angled floyd routing is supposed to work. The way it looks the angle cannot be an optical illusion.

  • 1 month later...

well, i have been very busy, and i now have a working guitar.

it aint finished yet, as Rick has to decide on this wednesday what he wants done with it.

i got it wired last night, finished at about 2am ish, then i played it till quarter to 4, trying to record last night, but nothing was working, luckily i got my laptop workin again, and i got a clip recorded.

i think its a fantastic guitar, great definition to the low notes, i dont wanna go back to 6 strings :D hehehe!

here is a clip of it, just a butchered drum track i recorded with my drummer mate for one of my songs. you will need to add treble to this recording i reckon, i didnt final EQ it or anything, and excuse the sloppyiness, all parts done in 1 take, no cut ins or outs, nothing added to the rhythm, thats the guitar straight thru my Vamp pro, and the lead is the Van Halen Tapping setting on my Vamp, for your reference (Rick) its patch 6B if you dont have it hooked to the PC and if you havent modified that one!

www.allbarkleys.plus.com/7%20string.mp3

thats 2 rhythm tracks, drums, lead, no bass geetar. i dont really wanna post it actually, its a lil poor, but i said to rick id get him a clip.

pictures? yeah, i have a few.

i will post the links to most of the pics, as i respect dial-uppers :D

enjoy the pics, ill answer any questions you may have!

Mike

angeled trem route isnt an illusion, the way the clamps at the back make this angle on the body, so i routed in line with them, i prefer it this way, you may be able to see what i mean in the pics, unfortunately most of the "most descriptive" pics were soo blurry i wouldnt post them.

this isnt the guitar in its finished stage, its a rough stage which i will clean up before i paint it.

What is Fender guitar strap doing on RG-ish guitar??? B)

That shed gives whole new dimension to the words blue black burned finish. :D

So you build this for "client"???? Was this your first build????

Would like to know why "client decided for custom build and not go for RG7620 refinish/custom job.

Body and headstock are both close to original RG, ..... slightly off in areas.......but as long as "customer" is happy.....I guess.

Personally I see this as great Project Guitar, ......not so much "client" guitar project.

:D

Great MP3 though.

Edit: And can some of the moderators clean up all these double threads, posts.....

ADMIN EDIT: Your wish is our command. LOL

Sorry about the server burps folks.
