whoofnagle
Thought I would post some links to a Koa topped swamp ash T style guitar that I am making. I think I will use a set of Rio P90's for the pups. Oh yeah - threw in a small tummy cut. Bill front view rear side view
javacody
Looking good so far. What are the plans for this body? Pickups? Bridge? Neck?

ROCKETROB
That Koa top looks great. Nice carve on the tummy cut too. Should sound interesting with the Koa over Swamp Ash. Rob.
whoofnagle
Well I have routed for the neck, and am getting ready to do the bridge and pups. I have decided to go with a regular rio single coil in th ebridge and a rio p90 in the neck. Two questions - 1. How deep do I route for the p90? 2. What size roundover bit do you guys normally use for a "T" style guitar? Bill Link to bigger picture is in the original post.
jay5
I used a 1/8 radius roundover on the tele I'm working on. It looks about right to me. I did a 1/4 radius on a tele body a while ago (before I trashed it) and it looked to be too much to me. I like the 1/8.
Daniel Sorbera
I like the ash more than the koa. With that perticular peice of ash I would have done it without a top. On the plus side you have a great looking back

whoofnagle
Man it is hot today!! Well I am slowy making progress on this guitar. Next up is rounding over the edges, sanding, and on to the finishing this fall when it cools down. Here is a shot with some of the hardware in place, and yes the neck pup is just stuck in there, it has not been mounted. mledbetter
buddy that is some nice looking stuff. I love the look of that koa. that should be a killer sound combination with those woods and that p90 in the neck. You'll have to throw a sound clip at us when she's all done. whoofnagle
Here is a shot of the top and body after I putn a few coats of tru-oil. I have been experimenting with different ways to apply it. By this I mean, how much, with or without naptha, and the number of coats. I think it makes the figure of the koa really standout. n8rofwyo
You're right, that koa really popped with the Tru Oil. Looks great - really classy T, no doubt. Nate Robinson

whoofnagle
absolutely stunning, that koa really truned out awesome good work ← Well after putting on my last coat of oil- I looked at it real closely and said the sides are perfect, but the top and bottom could have been better. Thus, out came the green tape (on the sides) and the saw dust went flying on the top and bottom. The first (new) coat is back on. Oh well, live and learn!! mullmuzzler
Whoofnagle, didn't you buy the Warmoth ash with koa top body in a past few weeks, maybe a month ago? I think there's was a topic about finishing (maybe, I'm not sure, but I'm sure that somebody bought warmoth koa topped body).... Sorry for the hijack. mullmuzzler | OSSMT

Guitarfrenzy
Nice work.. looks great. I'm really anxious to see how that wood combination sounds, maybe some sound clips after it's together? Anyway, great work..
whoofnagle
Here is a pic, with the neck put on (the body has finished). On the whole I am very please with my effort on this one EXCEPT the poor job on the string ferrules. I thought I had it nailed, but from the second pic - I did not Oh well, I plan on doing the electronics this weekend. Bill
chunkielad
Tiny pics but from what I can see - it's a nice job mate.
darren wilson
(Pssst... click the pics and they get bigger!) Great work... I love the minimalism of Teles and how many different variations there are on the same old formula to get so many different, personalized guitars in the end. There's something really cool about having a dark top wood on a lighter-coloured back. That koa/ash combo looks really great.

CoryKer
Click on them, then delete the "th_" from the filename. The links just point to the thumbnail file, but he still uploaded the full size ones. Nice looking guitar.
chunkielad
Ah I getit now! It's a real shame about the ferrules - on what is otherwise a fantastic guitar!
