I would think that pine is too soft. I, however, have some 100 year old Heart Pine that I was thinking about using. It's a lot more dense than your hobby grade pine. john Posted August 2, 2003 Report Share Posted August 2, 2003 i used oak on both of my guitars! , it rocks... but be careful as oak can be a very unstable wood, it will warp if you even mention the word dampness.... oak is very strong also and in my opinion is quite suitable for use in guitars. rock on brian may! F1sh Posted August 4, 2003 Report Share Posted August 4, 2003 oak was used in alot of old fender lap and pedal steel guitars. I'm currently building a lap steel out of white oak, and while for the most part it's easy to work with, it likes to split when you go across the grain with a file or router. so just be mindful of that and i think you'd be fine.
