Who Needs Logos?

Recommended Posts

This is kinda typical of PG. A Newbie offers somthing to be nice (however probably not needed) and everyone craps on them for trying to be a contributor.

Couldn't you just say "thanks for the gesture but its available on this website"... or "thanks, for tha act of good will but we usually make our own necks and put our name in them"

<GuitarGuy>,

Thank you for being logical and appreciative. I simply stated that I appreciated all the great advice and posts on here, and unlike so many other, I actually tried to offer something back to all the users.

The response from a thread like this was unbelievable, and it's no wonder why people only care about themselves and rarely offer kind gestures to others. :D

<Crafty>

Some people, like myself, may use them for their refinished headstocks, posters, whatever.

Use your imagination. The exact same reason that someone said you can download them from a logo site.

Why did you not respond to that post like you did to mine?

Well, let me tell you why:

1. You started this thread.

2. Recreating trademarked logos either for profit or free dissemination without permission of the trademark holder is illegal in most developed parts of the world, including the country where this forum is hosted.

3. The title of this thread "Who Needs Logos, Fender and Gibson" combined with your request for people to contact you without any mention of cost or details sure sounds like a come on.

Thanks for the welcome to this site. I love all the tips, and "work in progress" tutorials and images!

Crafty,

Re-creating corporate logos for personal use is by no means illegal. Trust me, I am a lawyer.

I can re-create as many logos as my heart desires and make as many posters or guitar heads as my heart desires, as long as I do not intend to make any financial gains from doing so.

Secondly,

There was no mention of how much I would sell them for because there was no mention made of me selling anything. I said I would like to contrubute them as a sign of gratitude for all the work people put into this great forum.

Thirdly,

You made no gripe when mentioned earlier (by someone else), that these logos can be downloaded from another site. So what's the big deal with me saying I can give them away?

Here's a tip;

Don't waste your energy picking on a new guy, because you never know who's on the other end. Just because I may be new to this forum, it does not mean that I am a 12 year old scammer. Not to say that all minors are scammers, and not to say that it is ok to pick on a young new comer.

If you don't want the logos, skip to the next thread. Also, you mentioned that you responded because I made this thread. Correct indeed. However, my thread said, "let me know if you would like these logos". Id did not state "let me know if you think this is a dumb waste of time".

Hey, Pepper. Comment was not directed at you to piss you off.....Just heads up for future reference.

Downloading something for free still beats hours of playing around with Illustrator or so.

I have found BOW.com to be extremely helpfull, specially if you want to adjust a current design/brand/logo to fit your needs.

:D

Hey RGGR,

Thanks for the post. The website you mentioned is great, I never knew about it, but I'm glad I do now.

I'm sure tons of people like myself never knew about it. Sometimes people take shots at other who are just trying to help. Anyway, take care, and keep rocking.

Really? You're a lawyer? I didn't realize you could still get a law license from a Cracker Jack box in Canada.

Repeat after me: It is illegal in both the United States and Canada, and by treaty binding both countries, to recreate any trademarked logo for either pecuniary gain or public dissemination without permission of the holder of that trademark. There are exceptions to this rule in limited circumstances, such as comparisons in advertising and news media publication, none of which apply here.

Here it is in plain English: YOU CANNOT RECREATE A FENDER OR GIBSON LOGO AND SELL IT OR GIVE IT AWAY WITHOUT BREAKING THE LAW IF YOU HAVEN'T RECEIVED PERMISSION FROM FENDER OR GIBSON TO DO SO.

Now, whether or not you really are a lawyer is of no concern or consequence to me. I could care less about your faked logos. But I do care about this forum, and when people like you are allowed to post advertisments for trademarked items that you have not received permission to duplicate, that opens up this forum and its owner to liability for your actions. If the mods want to delete this or ban me for coming down on you, fine, I could probably use a two-week vacation anyway, but this is a very important issue and needs to be taken seriously, swiftly and severely.

I know that you read my last post!!! Consider this your first warning! And for your knowlegdge, this site has logos you can download, just need to be a supporter to access it!

Correct me if im wrong but I don't see any logos posted on this forum? The best brands has had them for eons.....I don't really think fender or gibson really cares about an internet forum..... And you know as well as I do that litigation on somthing as silly as this wouldn't hold any water at all in a court. Especially not in canada, where you cant even get pinned for distributing copyrighted mp3's

I don't know who pissed in your cornflakes but Chill out !

Anyway, getting back to Sgt. Pepper's original idea...

What'd be cool to have would be FONTS for the various logos. That way you can create your own logo with an authentic look.

Like my Bocaster logo:

th_bocasterlogoSmall.jpg

And um, most of the lawyers I know are the type who never back down from an argument, no matter how wrong they are, unless there's a judge around to spank them.

So, boys, do I have to get out my paddle? :D:D

I'm just trying to figure out what's so off-topic about questioning the intentions of someone who is using the forum to break the law? Also, just because logos are available for download in the supporter section doesn't mean that it's any less illegal if Brian hasn't received permission from the holders of those trademarks to freely disseminate them through this web forum.

I don't get it. Whenever someone has posted about copying logos or headstocks, seems like everyone jumps on 'em, especially Perry. Why is this guy getting a break?

This quote to answer why I posted that PG has the logos, since we DO have some logos...

If the mods want to delete this or ban me for coming down on you, fine, I could probably use a two-week vacation anyway, but this is a very important issue and needs to be taken seriously, swiftly and severely.

The whole point about verbaly letting you know that you need to chill is to prevent the outcome of a vacation... Perry does get on the case of the logos, but most of the time is when the question is... How do I replace the Squier logo on my guitar for a Fender?

If having or reproducing the logos were so illegal as you mention, the site in reference above will not be online right now... There are so many brands listed up there that a lawsuit would be gigantic.

I'm completely against the whole logo issue, when used for fraud purposes, I could care less about putting one on a guitar Ibuild, if it is a replica I'm making... But there will be no intention on selling, or if I do sell, you can be sure that the buyer will know way before hand... if you or anybody else want to disscuss the matter into depth, there is a pinned thread on the solidbody section, go there!

Maiden69 -> very well put.

And crafty, yes I am a lawyer, and I have been for almost 6 months now.

I am new in the field, but if I quit today, I'd still have 6 more months than you.

And you should watch what you say about Cracker Jack, those comments could get you into a lot of trouble! Unbelievable! :D

Six months, man...you're an old timer!

:D

Don't worry, if you quit today you'd have a whole two months less than I do. Not that it really matters much if you don't know what you're talking about, anyway.

As YOU should know, you should be careful about misrepresenting the extent of your experience, especially when you have six-months of probably what is little more than getting coffee for the partners and runnning down files.

I actually work in the legal department of a major corporation in Kansas City. We deal with trademark, labor, tort, contract, and real estate issues on a daily basis. Not that what I do is the most spectacular work in the world, but we go after people all the time for disseminating our marks, and we usually win. What you're doing probably isn't going to attract the attention of the Fender and Gibson--yet, but given their history of going after the eBayers and other unlicensed users of their marks, it's not something I'd recommend doing, and I certainly do not want this site to be endangered because of your's or anyone else's actions.

I'm finished. I can't make you drink the Kool-Aid.
