nor
OK, so I'm rubbing out some scratches/swirls on my 1999 Custom Shop Jackson. As I removed the control cover to clean out the ridge, a 5/16x1/8 chip lifted off with it! GRRRRRrrrrrrr.... Apparently, it had never been removed prior to this, and was slightly stuck to the black top coat (which apparently hadn't cured before the cover was installed). It flaked off, revealing the red coat underneath. Very freaking obvious... The chip is still in one piece (with a little checking), and fits right back into place. Can someone step me through the process? I would prefer to take it to a pro, but that just isn't an option for me ATM, as I was prepping it for sale (need cash). TIA, Ron
Brian
You might want to try putting it back in with a tiny drop of hotglue.
nor
Thanks, Brian! How do I reflow/blend the topcoat once the chip is reattched?
Scott Rosenberger
Use a small bit of super glue then wetsand and polish the area and chances are you'll not be able to tell except for the edge being cracked. I'll look like a small scratch
nor
Thx, Scott! I put a small drop 'o glue uder the chip - let dry. Then a verrrry light coat of black. Tomorrow, I'll wet sand. Then a touch of clear - dry, wet sand, polish. I'm feeling mucho better about this. Thx dudes!!

krazyderek
this is kinda the first time i'll stray away from the DIY rout, shouldn't that be covered by the guitar manufacturer? sounds like they're at fault there.
Guitarfrenzy
That's the exact thing Brian warned me about on my first paint job.. about getting in a hurry and when you put your pickguard etc. on.. it'll probably stick and peel when it's got to be taken off.. can't believe that a guitar manufacture would do something as bad as me.. but.. lol.. oh we'll
nor
I feel it's the manufacturers' fault as well, but... 1. I'm not the original owner. (owner#3) 2. The warranty card was never sent in by the original owner. 3. I don't have the months it would take to resolve this with Fender - and I live 15 min from Fender HQ. I need to move this soon.
