Recommend A Semi-hollowbody?

Looking for higher quality semi-hollow? Get a Myka dragonfly or sungazer (that's the gold one right?) those are top notch sexy guitars! Or get a Pagelli Jazzability (he makes them both with and without a center block, just ask) and they're nice and thin for that kind of guitar, which I think is awesome, and in my theories will help reduce feedback.

My two cents (and yes, I know... those are in the $3000 range.. but if you want something truely amazing, do one of those two!)

Oh yeah. And I'm in love with my Kritz hollowbody. Carved back and top, unique carve, great sound. And they're slightly cheaper than the two mentioned above. Plus, they'll figure out woods and all that fun stuff with you to make it truely what you want. And they just look SO classy. Plus, if you DID decide you wanted one, you could tell me everything you wanted on it, I could call up and be like "I'd like my third Kritz guitar please" and then tell them I moved to YOUR address. And they'd give me a nice fat discount. Hell, I got a fat discount on just #2, image #3?!

Why don't you ask Perry if he can build you one, I understand his prices are very competative, but I don't know his turnaround time.

Can't hurt to ask. :D

Also Wes had a V built by someone who also had really reasonable rates and the build quality was superb from what Wes said, use the search engine to find the thread and the guy.

Hell, why not have one custom built for you if the price is right?

my guitar, now my only i broke my first one and my project one is in paint, is an Artcore Ibanez. I love the sound, its perfect for me. Not that expensive, i got the one with a bigsby style trem. never had any problems with it, and have been complimented with it by friends who own Gretches, Gibsons, and others. I like it, what it comes down to is spending a day at a Guitar Center and trying out all the guitars people name or look cool Get the one you feel is the best to play both physically and sound quality for your budget.

Hey Mick, check out the Touchstone

At the risk of taking this a bit off topic, how can you sell a made in the USA guitar for $600?

Ya can't be making much on em! ya don't exactly scrimp on the quality of the components!

Good work though. Hope it works out for ya. Planning on extending the range?

Since my build project has hit a snag, and since I've been getting into thumpin' raggedy delta blues-like playing lately, I've started hankering for a semi...

Just wondering what people have here, what you can recommend?

I really like the look of the Gibson ES-135 --I prefer the single-cut look to the ES-335 style, but that's not a big deal. I'm mostly looking for playabilty. The Gibson is at the upper end of my budget for this one.

I've always really liked the Gretsch vibe --a 'real' Gretsch is out of my league, though. There's the new Electromatic semis, but I don't really trust the build quality.

I'm also looking at a couple of Epiphone models --I like the Wildkat, but I'm not sure if that's really a semi? I like the Casino too --that's probably closer to what I'm looking for. Another thing I like about these Epiphones is that they're not copies of Gibsons, they're 'true' Epiphones.

But maybe there are other brands I should be looking at?

I don't mind Korean or Japanese built...I want to avoid a Chinese-made guitar though, I'm looking for higher quality than that.

My guitar teacher has an Aria Pro II ES-335...has a bolt on neck...but it's an amazing guitar-- excellent neck, fits my hand really well, and has this awesome woody tone. It's pretty old though, don't think I'd be able to scout one up.

Yamaha makes a couple of hollow bodies that are discontinued the AEX-520 and AEX-502. the 520 is a humbucker and the 502 sports P90's. They are very well built and you can get them cheaply on E-bay from time to time. Harmony Central has reviews on them.

However we do have 2 other models in the Touchstone guitar line, one of which may not be availabe for a while since it incorporates componets not yet released from the manufacturer. We also have 2 other guitar designs in development.

Looking forward to seeing the new models. The Touchstone looks very nice...

Hey Robert, thanks. The Touchstone semi-hollow is unique internally and externally. We have a triple pickup black w/gold hardware version that will be featured next week.

i say get one of these. i played one in a shop and it was beautiful! and the pickups are quite good in my opinion

No, I don't want a thinline. I can build a thinline. I want a guitar I can't build for myself. And I already have a Fender.

I'm pretty settled on going for a slimline (1/4?) hollowbody now --there don't seem to be many choices in my price range (I'd like to keep this below 700 euros). I don't want one of those fat jazz guitars, at least not this time out. :D

So far I've found the Casino and that's about it. There's the Aria Pro II TA-40--my teacher has one and it's excellent-- but they're not making them anymore. It looks like some of the Artcore AF75s are full hollowbody? But they're fatbodies?

Hey Mickey, I'd stay away from the Casinos unless you're buying one IN PERSON. Here in Kansas City we have the Musician's Friend Clearance Center and they must have 100 Casinos sitting in there with broken headstocks. Bad breaks, too. Full neck rebuild bad. They aren't using the traditional scarf joints to build the necks and they just snap like twigs.

On the other hand, if you want one cheap and feel like rebuilding the neck, I could probably get one for you cheap and ship it over to you, too.
