samdjr74
Hi All, I got a dumb question and it's a little hard for me to explain so please bare with me. How do you determine the angle of a tune-o-matic bridge when mounting it on a body. Now let me explain what I mean by angle, if you look at a Les Paul you will see that the bridge is not parealle with the tailpiece. This is what I need to figure out. I tried to draw it below but hopefully you get the idea -------------- [ o o o o o o] [Humbucker] --------------- O ____----- O = What determines this angle? ___________ O tailpiece O ___________
westhemann
i install mine with the bottom insert right at the exact measurement of the scale(25" in my case)and move the top insert away from the nout 3/16" extra
rob
I think its a 4 degree angle with the bass side away from the pick up, hope that makes sence...
Drak
FWIW, I also use the 3/16" rule, placing the bass side 3/16" back from the string length mark.

westhemann
the insert that is closest to the bottom of the guitar if you were holding it in playing position. the inserts are the pieces that the bridge attaches to the body with
krazyderek
the insert that is closest to the bottom of the guitar if you were holding it in playing position. the inserts are the pieces that the bridge attaches to the body with the little E string side of the bridge

zandro
It doesn't matter how the string mounting holes are positioned, as long as the bridge is in the right spot. Those Schecter models you're referring to simply have string-thru-body mounting instead of stopbars.
samdjr74
Speaking of shector's, are those guitars any good?

Guest Litchfield Custom Gutars
As for the Schecters, I have a C1Plus FR, and the bookmatch is perfect. Also it plays and sounds great. My only gripe is the trem arm bushing kept falling out, so I did what they did...replaced it with an original floyd...I didnt paint mine black though. As for angling the bridge, I have seen so many different variations, even straight ones, that I really dont think it matters for functionality, however it looks better angled.
