skelf
Some progress on the 9 string. The fingerboard is now on and fretted along with the side dots boy does it take a lot of fret wire. I am just waiting for the headplate to glue up and I can get on with the headstock. al heeley
Do you put a radius on such a wide fretboard or leave it basically flat?
skelf
Al It is flat. Anything over a 6 string and I would be looking to go with a flat board. Alan
TemjinStrife
Ugh... Call me conservative, but I can't see any use for a bass with more than six strings (that aren't doubled like a 12-string guitar) unless you're into the Chapman Stick style of playing. It must cost as much as a new guitar to string one of those things up! I have flexible hands, but geez... a neck that wide must be like playing a table. GregP
Cue .jon! Great work as usual in this thread. Love all the different pics.
Jon
Hey, I play a table with strings attached to it! I'll skip to the answers of the most commonly asked questions to save everyone the time on this subject that pops up on a daily basis. 8 strings. With my hands. Yes, it is heavy. But I guarantee it weighs less than your Ash body telecaster. No, I don't use every string in every song. Yes, you may hold it.
skelf
The headstock roughed in today still to be smoothed out but you get the idea. Alan

Heh, the Chapman Stick-style two-handed tapping play was the only way I thought nine strings would make sense. Where do you get your string sets? al heeley
you might want to get a wider nut.
skelf
Al It is a new feature a moveable nut, you decide which range of strings you want to use then position the nut accordingly I am sure it will catch on. I got the strings from SIT. Alan

Jon
I use multiple sets of strings, I get the largest gauge strings from SIT and the rest from www.juststrings.com. Extremely beautiful work as always, Alan. I really love that Wenge 6-string bass.

The neck carved on the J Type so beginning to look like a bass now
