Violinshaped Guitar [finished]

Hey everyone!

I just finished building this guitar and I thought I'd show you. I actually started making it over a year ago but I put it on hold and I've only been able to work on it during the weekends when I've been active. It's based on the Caparison Marcury but I modified it by using a regular Strat neck, 2 humbuckers, 1 tone and one volume pot. It's incredibly well balanced even though it has an odd shape! It's neither neck nor back heavy and It hangs really nice. Doesn't weigh more than a strat either.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

SPECS

Maple neck - 25,5" scale (bought but I refinished the headstock)

Alder body

2 Japanese no name humbuckers

Nashville T-o-M

Electronics from Stewmac

Acrylic car lacquer (Motip)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was actually my first woodwork since the butter knives back in school so I've really satisfied with the result. It's also the first time I every do a spray paint job. :D

Depends on your definition of "useless". I would only say "less accessible." Classical guitarists seem to do OK on guitars with no cutaway from 12/13 on up. :D Ditto lots of other stringed instruments with no cutaway. Making it single-cut would have potentially ruined the "violin" aesthetic, so it depends on whether the shape and overall impression is more important than upper-fret access or not.

On the other hand, the entire design could have been shifted a bit and provided more upper-register access.

All other considerations aside, I like it. It's kewl. :D

Thanks for the comments. The shape of the guitar is purely aesthetic and I wanted it to be true to the original body shape. I saw someone making a single cut version of it earlier and I really didn't like the cutaway look on it.

This is what the original looks like:

Well done, it looks quite classy. I would be worried that the 'violin' shape would dig into my leg when i'm sitting though.

Surprisingly enough it doesn't! It fixates itself in a pretty stable and comfortable way instead, the upper part can dig itself into the chest if you sit bad though, but very rarely.
