alloyguitar Posted November 15, 2003 Report Posted November 15, 2003 ok, i'm 15 years old, and i'm working on my first all custom guitar. I'm preety much working by the tutorials, and trial and error. This is my first design, but i'm worried that it looks a bit too much like a b.c.rich mockingbird. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I'm also open to suggestions on modifications to make it look/play better, and if anybody would have any ideas as to what wood to use, it would be greatly appreciated. ALSO, IF ANYBODY HAS ANY NECKS, FRETBOARD OR NO, IT DOESN'T MATTER, THAT I COULD BUY FOR PREETY CHEAP (I'M ON A VERY LIMITED BUDGET) PLEASE EMAIL ME AT AVANTIDRAG@YAHOO.COM please click on link and go to guitar bodies to view the designs i want to persue http://www.angelfire.com/music5/guitarbuilder/ Quote

alloyguitar Posted November 15, 2003 Author Report Posted November 15, 2003 HA HA, it works now Quote
canuckguitarist Posted November 15, 2003 Report Posted November 15, 2003 i don't really like the body that much ...but I'm not really a 'radical' guitar kinda person.... i do reallly like the inlay ideas though... Quote
alloyguitar Posted November 15, 2003 Author Report Posted November 15, 2003 thanks for being honest, and i'm trying to think of a more traditional design at the moment, any ideas? Quote
krazyderek Posted November 15, 2003 Report Posted November 15, 2003 i like it......... and it has death written all over it... you definitly have to get a design of a guy in a black robe with the big hook thingy... grim reaper?? lol Quote
canuckguitarist Posted November 15, 2003 Report Posted November 15, 2003 actually i think it would look cool (just an idea, the page isn't working right now) if you shaped the bout on the lower right hand side a little more, sort of in the style of the Jackson Kelly. Quote
alloyguitar Posted November 15, 2003 Author Report Posted November 15, 2003 i though about it, but i'm worried that it would end up looking like an explorer, which i like, but i want something a bit different, but on the same lines. Thanks for the suggestion ;-) Quote
alloyguitar Posted November 15, 2003 Author Report Posted November 15, 2003 derek, i actually did consider inlaying a grim reaper in a veneer quilt top on it, but i decided against it :-) Quote
alloyguitar Posted November 18, 2003 Author Report Posted November 18, 2003 ok, i moved it over to angelfire, so maybe now it will work. Just click on the link and go to guitar bodies to see them http://www.angelfire.com/music5/guitarbuilder/ Quote
Devon Headen Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 I'm a little more traditional with body designs, but you're the one building it. I personally prefer guitars that are made to play, and play well. Maybe later I'll do it just for the art, but I want a guitar I can beat the crap out of (or baby it (yeah right....Me beating a guitar)). I really do like the inlay designs, you're gonna have fun with those though. Quote
MikeB Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 the inlay looks cool, however itll be a pain in the ass puttin it in! i think the most dadical i would go with a guitar is the Jackson Rhodes. i have some alterations on this design in dwg format (i think) ask me if you want them e-mailed. i have designed some more different Rhodes "v's" 27 and 29 fret ones, even an 8 stringed one, but im not gonna build them!. cya mike Quote
ultraman Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 nice inlays im like the other guys more traditional.... but i think it wouldnt look bad if you took off a bit of the length fo the body past the bridge. its so hard to figure out something new that wont look too creepy... Quote
angry_jeremy Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 Cool. That was a crazy inlay you got going on there. Quote
YDoesGodMockMeSo Posted November 23, 2003 Report Posted November 23, 2003 the inlay is totally doable....but by a pro. I've seen some crazy inlays done. Where the fretboard is more mother of pearl than wood. . You can try to find pics of Jackson's NAMM03 custom shop guitars. They're painted w/ a dragon on the body shooting flames up the neck. The flames are done w/ MoP (I think) really intricate, really kewl. So yours are doable. The bodys....i'm not really into. The 1st one the rear looks like the ESP new explorers, and the front looks like a BC Rich style. Neither of which i'm into. Same w/ the rest. But if you like it, go for it. Thats what this is all about. Quote
canuckguitarist Posted November 23, 2003 Report Posted November 23, 2003 i really like the 2nd and 3rd ones. i'm definately with ultraman though. you have to try and get rid of some of that space behind the bridge on the 1st one. Quote
