86barettaguy Posted November 15, 2003 Report Posted November 15, 2003 my kramer/allparts project is nearing completion. all that's left is attaching the neck to the body and putting a pickup in there (ok, I admit it, I'm a slow worker when it comes to these things). anyway, I was browsing the net looking for cool guitars. and I remembered the HM strats. they are pretty damn cool guitars IMO. but does anyone know where I can find more info on them? some place where I could find pictures and enough dimensions to make a simple drawing of the body and neck? BeAR Posted November 16, 2003 Report Posted November 16, 2003 Heavy Metal Strat. Fender's first effort at appealing th the 80's hair band guitarists. Basically a Strat with rear routing, no scratch plate, humbuckers and a Floyd Rose. Quote
westhemann Posted November 16, 2003 Report Posted November 16, 2003 they have them now with a duncan invader in the bridge. Quote
Guest Litchfield Custom Gutars Posted November 17, 2003 Report Posted November 17, 2003 So a Squire Showmaster HH but with a bolt on not neck thru? Quote
86barettaguy Posted November 17, 2003 Author Report Posted November 17, 2003 A HM Strat is very different from what is on offer now. the main differences were the kahler trem and the 25 inch scale. you can find more info at http://freespace.virgin.net/john.blackman4/hm.htm Quote
Scott Rosenberger Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 If you've ever cut a regular strat body, the HM is the same except for the Radius on the body edges. Quote
syxxstring Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 like this? these guys are pretty cool they may even send extra pics if you ask nice Quote
Guest Litchfield Custom Gutars Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 Yeah the pawn shop has one that htey want like $700 plus for. Quote

Ace Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 You mean, the black crackle is not the original finish and it's supposed to be piano black ? so long ace btw, I have heard only the best things about the original 80s HM strats, but they're absolutely rare on German eBay... Quote
86barettaguy Posted November 18, 2003 Author Report Posted November 18, 2003 If you've ever cut a regular strat body, the HM is the same except for the Radius on the body edges. from what I can tell it's closer to a slimmed soloist shape? Quote
Ace Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 Yup, afaik the HM srats body is a bit smaller overall and has "slimmer" cutaways for a look that is a little more pointy so long ace Quote
canuckguitarist Posted November 20, 2003 Report Posted November 20, 2003 Here is a picture of one. It is VERY cheap! Quote
