ElysianGuitars Posted September 4, 2008 Report Share Posted September 4, 2008 wanted to start up the progress thread on this one, the all mahogany one is a build for Dan DeTora(dtrax on sevenstring.org), and he wants it unfinished, i'm assuming because he wants to finish it himself. basically, he's going to use his RG7321 bridge and neck on this one, should be a pretty cool end result http://www.elysian-online.com/ConcurrentRGA7s/dscf5100.jpg and the one with the quilt top and mahogany body is gonna be for whoever ultimately winds up buying it, it will be an RG7620 replacement body. its still being glued up, and i need to buy some more bandsaw blades before i cut it out anyways, so only one pic for now. http://www.elysian-online.com/ConcurrentRGA7s/dscf5101.jpg there you have it. the quilt top one is going to get white body binding, but it is going to be finished over with blue tinted clear, part of the black/blue burst, so it should stick out pretty well and look pretty amazing, imo. ElysianGuitars Posted September 5, 2008 Author Report Share Posted September 5, 2008 That's one of the things I offer, especially since the 7 string community has such limited choices, for ibanez you basically only get basswood for the Rg or mahogany for the s7320. No rga, no other body wood choices for the rg, I'm basically trying to fill a void for the extended range ibanez fans. They's lookin' purdy! ElysianGuitars Posted September 6, 2008 Author Report Share Posted September 6, 2008 got the all mahogany one routed, though i made a booboo in the neck pocket, but it'll be fixed tomorrow when the glue dries(its a mix of mahogany dust and wood glue). i made a template today that includes both neck pocket/neck pickup, bridge pickup, and lopro edge/OFR7 route, all on centerline, and all properly spaced, and below the trem route i drilled the holes for the RG7 fixed bridge screws and string through holes. i also routed a binding channel on the quilt top one, and started rough carving it, it looks a little burnt right now, but i only got it within about 90%, the rest will be done with files and sandpaper, all by hand, and it won't look burnt when all is said and done. the channel you see routed on the all mahogany one is a channel to tell me where the edge of the carve goes, and it'll get roughed in in just a little bit, i'm still working on making templates from the RG7620 i have now, including templates for the cavity covers, the entire tremelo route, and the input jack cavity and input jack cavity cover, and electronics cavity. I would have used the smaller 3/8" router bit for it. i've got a bit with a 5/16" cut, but it requires oversized templates. also, the lopro edge 7 route has pretty squared front corners, which is necissary on the LoPro edge 7 if you want the route to be a tight fit., though the rear corners are a bit more rounded. ElysianGuitars Posted September 12, 2008 Author Report Share Posted September 12, 2008 well, i have to restart the all mahogany one, i'll bet cutting the new body out today. i somehow got the neck pocket placed incorrectly, and the hole i drilled for the ferrule went over the edge of the neck heel. it'll make good scrap wood really sucks though, i know dan was really looking forward to this being done very soon, and i unfortunately can't deliver, but i'm going to be working on dan's almost exclusively for now, to catch to where i was. alright, gonna be routing the neck pocket on the all mahogany one today, back to square one, but this allows me to conform to the original spec. it's only going to be a 1 pickup guitar, so i'm doing the neck pocket route a very different way, instead of using my RG7 template, i'm going to use the method Roberto-Venn taught us, so the neck is lined up centerlined, and parallel with the centerline, and i'll route inside the MDF.
